Sari Style

Modhura, a cinematographer, was awarded the 2nd Angénieux “special encouragement” award at the Pierre Angénieux ExcelLens in Cinematography Ceremony last month and it was such a delight to see her accept her award in a green silk kanjeevaram sari.

We sure loved!

White On The Red Carpet

Are you recovered from Cannes red carpet yet? We have, even if for the most part it left us generally meh. If there was one thing that stood out to us, it was the sheer number of white-toned gowns we saw during the film festival.

White is a great pick since it tends to really pop on the red carpet, and when done well, it’s high on impact. But on the flip-side, flaws seem exaggerated too. All said and done, Diana in her Amit Aggarwal sari was our favorite for toeing the ‘sari-but-contemporary’ line well. A close second was Sonam whose tuxedo was definitely high on impact, it’s a pity then that the fit on those pants let her down (see what we said about the flaws).

How did you think our tinsel town ladies fared? Have a favorite?

In Ralph & Russo

Wearing a custom Ralph and Russo tuxedo, Sonam walked the red carpet at Cannes on Tuesday evening. Emerald and diamond jewellery from Chopard and jewelled pumps from Jimmy Choo finished out her look.

Many of you asked to see a simple sleek look on the red carpet versus over the top gowns, and looks like you got what you wished for. As for me, I loved the look waist up. The pants, for a custom creation, still looked ill-fitted.

In Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla

Sonam attended the Chopard Parfums dinner on Monday evening wearing an Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla gown that featured a stitched-on dupatta and matching choker.

While in theory I like the idea of infusing a bit of desi, here though, all of it felt very costumey. (Think Princess Jasmine gone bridal.) And by going by the removal of that random hand sleeve, it seems like they also felt the need to edit after the fact. Did removing the glove lessen the costumey effect? Or did you love all of it anyways?

In Twos

Sonam spent Monday doing photo shoots and press interviews and was seen wearing a red Valentino in the morning and an Elie Saab gown in the afternoon.

Have a favorite between the two. We thought she looked good in both!
