In Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla

Comment image 55

Sonam attended the Chopard Parfums dinner on Monday evening wearing an Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla gown that featured a stitched-on dupatta and matching choker.

While in theory I like the idea of infusing a bit of desi, here though, all of it felt very costumey. (Think Princess Jasmine gone bridal.) And by going by the removal of that random hand sleeve, it seems like they also felt the need to edit after the fact. Did removing the glove lessen the costumey effect? Or did you love all of it anyways?

  1. Oh gosh
This looks ridiculous. If there were pearls in her hair, it would be thathaiyya thathaiyya hO time.

  2. This is so bad on so many levels. Right intention, bad execution. She looks like she just jumped out of the sets of Mahabharata on TV. That would have been ok but not at a Chopard dinner.
Also, pretty sure no one can sit with ease, let alone eat a morsel of food with a corset as tight as hers.

Diana’s take on the saree remains the best one yet.

  3. Just when I thought she was going to serve us her best, TIRES SCREECHING EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE…………….It looks like AJSK did not know where to stop. It is like the masterjis were told, use all the material given. There should be no waste. This needs a lot of editing.

    • Yah she actually looks beautiful. Had a good look at this and realised it could have been a very good bridal ‘Sonam’ look.. for one of her wedding days.

  5. Draupdi meets Chandrakanta and then Betal from Vikram and Betal tags along on shoulder.
The first picture looks pretty spooky like ghost of a dead old lady attached to her shoulder.

  6. I repeat, Bollywood needs to go back home. Whether they are promoting their films or representing their brands, they all looked terrible. When I think French Riviera, I think Grace Kelly in To Catch a Thief. But what Bollywood serves is Priyanka in her LA downtown ghetto look, Ash in cheap wrapping paper and Sonam in some DD serial leftover costume. Pathetic.

    • And DP with her textile store enough for all the curtains at Hotel Martinez. Kangana with her whiplash inducing style experiments. They all need to go back to the drawing board.

    • My sentiments exactly. Pathetic display of designs. I thought Cannes was a celebration of movies, the ideologies it represents, a showcase of star cast and honoring their talents. Trust Indians to turn every event or function into a masquerade.

      • No need to group these few Bollywood stars into all Indians Roni (your last statement). Indians also include Sharmila Tagore who was graceful (check HHC coverage a few years ago), Nandita Das who is respected and actually goes to showcase her films etc.

  7. Ditch that dupatta and this gown would have been quite beautiful. Darn. I like that saree (pleat) element in the front.

  8. I mean this is clownish. There is a time and place for everything and this is awful! Why do Bollywood celebrities have to show up wearing ridiculous costumes. Just a simple saree a la Nandita Das is enough to showcase Indian Theme. Maang tikka, there weird dupatta dresses are neither everyday Indian Nor context relevant.

  9. If she had to remove something it should have been that huge dupatta awkwardly pinned on at the front and then draped off her body over a bizarre huge left shoulder pad.
On a positive note , the rest of the actual saree is ok and I love the makeup.

Ps why have Bollywood gone crazy with oversized bows ,shoulder pads and what not this year ?

  10. Chandrakanta! Sonam seems to have lost her fun vibe at Cannes… even her smile seems forced. Last year as a new bride she looked so happy.

  11. If we remove the weird looking extra fabric from the hands and instead just kept it off shoulder with the gloves, this would have been still a better look

  12. Ladies .., don’t blame Sonam. With the sky high expectations she had to shoulder a lot of responsibilities. So much so that she needed some extra shoulder.

  13. why isn’t this in the WTHEYYY category. Out of all the monstrosities bolly girls (except Diana) have thrown at us at Cannes this year, this one is the worst….yet. What is more annoying is the same group of sisters and friends hyping each other up on insta about this ridiculous look. As an artist, do you not ever get your audience’s reaction or are you just satisfied living in your own circle of friends and family heaping praises.

  14. Et tu Sonam.

What’s wrong with Bollywood – or correctly the designers they choose. It’s like a little girl playing in her mother’s closet and pinning together everything she finds.

  15. So Deepika’s simple structured black and white gown with a high pony tail seemed “overly thought out and gimmicky” and this tacky monstrosity gets a padded criticism when it’s so obviously so much more gimmicky and “thought” out. You guys are funny.

  16. I would like someone to ask the designer or Sonam’s sister who has supposedly styled her the need to have that unnecessary fabric on her shoulder? How does it add to the outfit.

Also what is the ridiculous trend of wearing that silly thing in her hair. Just awful.

  17. This like a 80’s Bollywood costume for a song sequence … disappointing . Of all the designers at her beck and call she chose AJSK?

  18. There is she goes!!! Just when I thought that she had turned a new leaf she had to prove us wrong. This fusion Amar Chitra Katha costume seems to amateurish and badly executed. What was she thinking? or not thinking?
I think Rhea has inherited bolts and bolts and bolts of fabric that she must use up before the deadline and hence she loves to use voluminous amounts.

  19. What’s going on with the Bolly brigade at Cannes this year…I mean seriously? They have just gone berserk trying to make a point. Deepika and Kangana had such a fabulous run last year, they wanted to up the ante this year and turned up like caricatures. The only one that Salvaged this atrocious collective outing was Diana Penty. Honestly, I’m embarrassed looking at them.

  20. If she wanted to go desi route…why not drape a simple elegant sari ? Why every single design has to be so horrendous and soooo EXTRA? Extra sleeves, XXL bows, extra gloves..WTH is going on?? Its like designers wanting to use every bit of material and just making random stuff out of it and sticking it on their designs.

Honestly I would not wear this monstrosity even someone paid me to wear it.

  21. So here’s my routine: I see these awful looks on Instagram and cringe. Then I head straight to HHC comments section for some genuine ROFL moemnts. And the readers did not disappoint: Chandrakanta, Mahabharat (Gandhari without the blindfold?). Talk about sadistic pleasure!

  22. Don’t know why but I’m liking this.. so am looks beautiful. Only thing I don’t get is that tiny mountain on her shoulder to plant the dupatta kind of thing all over.. it looks funny and creepy. This reminds me of 90s fashion. Wen models were put in things that were off beat then! For shoots, song videos, ads..
Yah off beat of those times which was funny.. if it’s done today it looks like this.

  23. The thing about Sonam is that she has a very girl-next-door look and she needs all these gimmicks to be noticed. If she wore a simple outfit, she would fade into the background.

  25. Can some one tell me how designers like AJ SK are still around? How are they able to convince the Bolly brigade to dress in their hideous designs to such high profile events?
They can neither get their lehangas or gowns right.
And why is Rhea a stylist? Her idea of style is limited to piling on as much fabric as possible.

This one is the least that I liked there’s too much going on … the sleeves fabric … the pallu … the neck it’s just too much
