Lehenga Love?

Comment image 30

Sara was seen at the opening of IFFI in Goa wearing a cotton floral print lehenga featuring a simple gota border. I, for one, was surprised by this pick because the color of the lehenga was rather dull and makes me wonder if the pick was intentional given the noise around all the flashy outfits celebs have been spotted in over Diwali. Having said that, whether intentional or not, the simple lehenga made for a nice change. She looked sweet in it.

  1. Hmmm rather casual & not apt for a large film festival where celebs will show up dressed to the nines . She need to change her stylist immediately !

    • Why is it that anything indian or traditional, automatically becomes inapt?
There was a time in early 2000s and 2010s, young actresses representing india used to recieve flak for wearing traditional outfits at international platforms and film festivals. I recall the media haunting for vidya, ash, bipasha.

Why cant she wear a traditional outfit for a formal event in her own country?
Or only wearing blazer or shirt-pant gets considered as formal?

Having said that, will you say an actor wearing a bandhgala or a lungi or a veshti or a dhoti for such event will attract comments like its not apt?!?!?!

      Come on, TS.

      • That’s not true. When you speak of Indian formal, suits and sarees are for formal and lehenga for occasions and that’s what is being implied here. We have moved past the traditional clothing bashing many years ago and are wearing Indian clothing with pride and confidence.

      • This is an open platform to express our feelings and thought . Why come after me? Her Lehangha is casual & more apt for a different gathering . I never said anything about skipping traditional wear neither did I mention she should have worn a gown or something . Her particular choice is not apt in my opinion !Come on now !

    • Haha this is what social media conditioning looks like. We have started calling an indian outfit inappropriate for our film festival in our own country. Slow claps*

    • I just came here to comment that she was one of the younger gen actresses that made it cool among the new batch of kids in the industry to wear salwar kameez for airport looks, running errands, media outings or even casual cup of coffee or brunch.
She looks pretty, wears it beautifully, is at ease and of course she looks professional.
      You look good, Sara.

  2. Whats so unapt about it?
Its a traditional outfit, worn gracefully. It is simple, underwhelming and definitely wearable for something celebratory.

  3. This look belongs to a Sooraj Barjatya movie set. That being said I find her “simple middle class” style and demeanor very calculated and fake now

  4. She really looks sweet, she could have draped the dupatta across her chest to give the outfit a little drama (like how punjabi women wear their dupattas) and perhaps, bigger chaandbaalis. Its always the finishing touches.

  5. 100% Diwali effect. More than any other celebs in her peer group, i find her appearances more studied — girl next door, relatable, approachable. Her team has its ear to the ground — but sometimes it just backfires, as here. This wasn’t the platform to so simple in cotton!

  6. Love it! And she looks really sweet with the hair pinned up like that. I don’t know why you are suspicious about her intentions, she does low key Indian outfits many times!

  7. There is simple and non bling and then there is this… not sharp and not appropriate for a film festival more appropriate for a regular home festival.

  8. The event was in Goa in India. What’s wrong with cotton Indian wear? She had the right make-up, hair, style and lehenga in itself is a very dressy Indian attire. Make this normal folks!
