Kartiki and Guneet won the Oscar for their documentary at the 2023 Oscars and it was not only great to see them win but also see them on stage in creations Made in India. Kartiki wore a Rahul Mishra gown and Guneet, an elephant motif handloom sari from Ekaya. That wasn’t the only reference to her documenaty in the outfit. Ms. Monga also wore an elephant brooch and carried a Leiber elephant minaudiere as well.

Our congratulations to the duo!

  1. I do love the saree, the look, the color and most importantly the neat real styling of it. Doesn’t matter representing a country in its popular attire but representing your own self in something authentic on such larger platforms is important. Feel proud of this win and these women, their dressing makes for such a confident picture.

  2. Guneet looks amazing! I hope when she wears the sari again but with a blouse with shorter sleeves. The long sleeves here do lend a ‘formal elegance’ to the sari but would prefer shorter sleeves.

  4. love how these ladies used fashion to push and extend their film. oddly enough, i’m more impressed by the gown than the saree — the work on that gown is phenomenal.

  6. The two look fantastic, a lot of these kind of awards have people in subdued clothes so I am glad they went the Indian route and brought some colour.

Interesting that the saree features elephants and JrNTR’s outfit had the tiger. The two motifs really represent our nation – strong and graceful as a tiger, large, lumbering and gentle as a elephant.

Beyond the glamour, I hope The Elephant Whisperers and the nominated All That Breathes — testaments to the sensitive, marginal people of our country – sensitise people to environment issues in the country.

PS: The All That Breathes crew looked pretty good too!
