As soon as the Met Gala dress code is unveiled, planning starts for all would-be guests on what to wear. Ms. Ambani alongwith stylist Anaita picked Rahul Mishra to create a custom look for her which eventually was a gold sari with an extended pallu featuring the designer’s floral appliques. A photoshoot ahead of the event was also held as is the norm now.
Except, Isha never got to attend the event but a choice was made to release the photoshoot pics and details about the sari. From a designer’s perspective, I can understand releasing the video and images because it was a custom design with a particular dress code in mind. I just hope that this isn’t the only sighting of this sari. I hope Isha gives us a real life view of this sari perhaps at a different event just because all that labor deserves an outing.

I am not a big fan of Mishra’s appliqué work…
this has become new status symbol for the rich now. How many “hours of handmade work” went into creating whatever they are wearing once and throwing away. Anything under a month is sooo middle class. I wonder if they understand what they sound like.

Glad you featured this coz I’m pretty sure this is the only sighting we’ll have of this creation. Also, as magnificent as the photo shoot is, EOD the pallu looks so disconnected from the saree, as ethereal as it is.
It’s ugly but you won’t dare to say that.
While I appreciate the representation of saris on international platforms once in a while, it seems that there is an overemphasis and lack of creative ideas by Indian designer and celebrities. The sari sightings almost feel like a cultural uniform and overkill.

Thank you for confirming that she did in fact not attend. All Indian media outlets are reporting she did even though she wasn’t on the carpet or there are no pictures of her at the event…smh.
