For her two recent evenings out, Deepika picked black Alexander McQueen pants to wear. Teaming the leather (faux?) McQueen pants with a Versace bralette, she rounded out the look with Saint Laurent pumps the first time around. More recently, it was a Haight bodysuit with wide-legged McQueen trousers, Bottega Veneta bag and pair of Gianvito Rossi pumps. Sleek updos, defined eyes and nude-ish lip color finished out the look both times.

Deepika must like her things to come in twos because for a recent spot of travel, she teamed her matching Zara separates with a tan Massimo Dutti coat one time and a plaid Zara coat the other. Styling her shirt partially untucked both times, she rounded out the two looks with her sneakers.

Dressed-up, dressed-down, how do you think her style fares? She wears all of these looks well, in a sort of predictable way. It’s either the severe updo with super-defined eyes most times or the very curated off-duty looks like the carefully untucked shirt seen both times. Yes she looks good but does she leave us always feeling inspired/wanting more? Meh!

  1. The black and white obviously. It’s a classic look and even if heavily curated it’s still stands out.

Hope you post PV Sindhu’s look as well…she is the real superstar!

    • Yes instead of seeing Alia’s every day wea looks in a normal pajama or suit , I would prefer to look at other beautiful sights of other personalities. P&P could you please cover more personalties instead of personal album of a few movie stars

  2. IDK what you are expecting.. she looks hot and stylish to me. true movie star. that Versace bralette look is fierce. Only small critique would be that she wears a bit too much foundation, she doesn’t need it..

    • I don’t understand what’s this hate for curated looks. These so called critics always preach sonam whose outfits have always been highly curated and sometimes down right weird!
If any celebrity likes to put out perfectly styled looks , then what’s the harm in that. As long as they look god I don’t see any issues.
Also, I don’t even understand this wanting more comment , as if you’re not going to look forward to what she wears the next time.

      • All looks are curated to some extent. Sonam or Vidya Balan’s looks to me appear more collaborative (though I am sure a fair bit is promotional) whereas Deepika’s looks entirely promotional. Regardless for most people what one likes purely depends on the outfit.

Just speaking as a layperson. It’s no secret that actresses attract eyeballs and designers will try and court them – Deepika’s saree knockoffs are all over ecommerce sites for example. I don’t have any particular interest or bias towards any actress just observing the way they choose to present themselves within the present entertainment culture.

        • I agree. The trick to a great stylist-celeb dynamic is when it looks like the celeb would’ve picked an outfit themselves even though we know they didn’t.

  3. I think there is a lack of authenticity in her looks. She doesn’t seem to have a defined personal aesthetic that reflects in her style. It’s almost like the stylist put it together on an app. Also, too many trendy pieces tend to make everything look over-styled.

  4. First look: horrible pants, pretty bra. Also wrong bra size looks like.
Love the second look, the white top is beautiful classy, pants maybe mammoth for her as it seems too wide. No complaints otherwise.
Rest o looks? Nope they’re just travel wear, nothing more there.

  5. Look #2: Haight bodysuit with wide-legged McQueen trousers – that’s the look I liked the most.
Look # 1: the pumps look really nice. The pants don’t photograph well (camera flash to blame)?
Look #3 is ‘designed’ to look sloppy and Look #4 reminds me of (medical) scrubs with a plaid coat thrown over it.

  6. Honestly I feel like when it comes to the opinions of fashion critics, she’s almost a victim of her own beauty much like Ash…no matter how hard her stylist tries they can never seem to do justice to her innate natural looks. I mean let’s face it, she looks super hot in all of the getups. Sure, the makeup could be less severe but she pulls off the messy separates and even the bralette look like no one else can. Yet somehow people always feel like she could do better as you guys said… It’s like she’s so beautiful that the sky is the limit for her and no matter how great she looks there’s always a public sentiment that better clothes should have been chosen to do justice to her looks.

Not really. Aishwarya, Deepika are good looking women, heck most actresses are. But stylish they are not neither do they have a cool, it vibe. That’s OK, they don’t have to be everything but in a style site you are going to be oh that’s a bit meh.

If anything actresses get a pass because with a fit bod and pretty face most stuff is going to be OK. Its how they make lesser mortals buy crap stuff and knockoffs:)

      • So correct! Actresses are made too much of a idol in our country.. they’re doing their job, that’s all and Not required to look perfect.
Being fit makes you look great in every damn clothing, due to our diet and lifestyle we believe it’s impossible without trying. Clothes are just clothes and actors are also just humans.

    • Honestly I think it’s the opposite of what you said…given her natural good looks, people are far more forgiving of some really horrible sartorial choices she makes. Also, you’d think when someone is that beautiful that they wouldn’t even have to try…which is why DP never hits the mark, because her looks (outfits and makeup) are the definition of trying too hard. If she let her hair loose, got rid of the raccoon eyes and just wore something casual, we’d be (rightly) gushing over her looks. Sigh, she’s a victim of her own gimmickry.

  7. Must say, DPs style has evolved. She went through a phase of being ranveer, but loving her looks these days. Esp the white top and black pants, classy! And even the green suit, she is carrying it so well! Nothing meh at all!

  8. The top-left outfit looks incomplete – like she’s missing a piece.
The black & white look is perfection!
The bottom two looks – Why the need to make outfits look deliberately sloppy?

  9. She looks gorgeous in all of them! Dress up black & white is definitely a winner. I believe the reason for criticism, is that this series doesn’t have much variety. It’s all pants look with mostly messy/slick updo’s with min accessories. However don’t forget the Payal Khandwal saree !!

  10. now this critique to me seems a bit… deliberately mean? she’s a public figure, who’s photographed every time she steps out of home. of course her looks are going to be curated. ordinary mortals might have the luxury of planning the outfit they’re going to wear to work the next day or the wedding next month, but any person would be exhausted if they had to put pieces together under DP’s circumstances! what’s important is that she carries them off with elan even if they don’t necessarily reflect her personal style — being a chameleon is a good thing for an actor, right? otherwise we’d be the first people to label her boring.

  11. Deepika is a clothes horse who mostly looks fine because she’ s tall , fit and pretty . But she doesn’t have a personal style aesthetic or inherent cool vibe .

  12. Y’all are really hard on Deepika. No one really has their own style anymore – they all are curated looks. Maybe their team is trying to push a trend? (whether it works or not is a different issue).

When is the bias going to end on this blog? Extremely harsh on some celebs and praising other celebs’ bland looks to the roof. I know, I know what some of you will say it’s their space and they can write anything they want!

  13. I think I’ve realized why Deepika’s style is controversial. She sometimes hits it out the park so strongly that we all think that’s what she should aim for all the time. Frankly, I think if her style was similar to her everyday style in Love Aaj Kal she would be set. lol basically I’m like please bring back Anaita Shroff Adajania <3

  14. Wow, Deepika is causing lot of debates on HHC! *Grabs popcorn*
Personally, I don’t care for the bralette look, other outfits are nice! She’s very pretty, and can carry off most everything but I just love her in saris!

  15. Priyanka, thank you for the post, been missing this kind of analysis for a long time 🙂

I think DP does not have a personal style and wears what’s chosen for her. Even for personal events she wears curated looks. There’s nothing wrong with that (and she has staff to look after, so probably other concerns drive her preference to wear styled/curated stuff). She also probably gets given lots of clothes and accessories from designers and has obligations to wear them etc.

I think what is not working is that her stylist seems to be giving us inconsistent looks – hits it out of the park for one appearance, then a series of bizarre looks. Leaves us wondering why it’s so hard to dress someone who is fit and has access to big labels etc.

  16. I know what everyone is struggling with and I have the answer guys.
The prenup allows Ranveer to pick out her clothes/ make her wear his clothes – 4 days a month. that’s what you see in the bottom 2.

Top 2 are gorgeous. white and black is a classic and that’s how you do a bralette like an A lister!
