In Gucci

Wearing a Gucci dress, the leggy model turned actor attended a recent Awards evening. As gorgeous as she looks, just once we wish she’d indulge us and give us either a defined eye or strong lip. This look would’ve greatly benefitted from it!

In Malini Ramani

Tabu channeled some old school glamour in her Malini Ramani kaftan, sparkly clutch and dark lip. Though not blown away by the kaftan, this look makes for a refreshing change. It also helps that the actor looked good in it!

Of Dresses

Wearing a white mesh paneled dress, Kareena attended a recent event. A statement necklace and nude pumps finished out her look. Though the actor looked nice, the decision to wear her hair down and add a necklace to boot was an odd choice. Wish she wore hair back to let the dress’ neckline do its thing and then maybe the necklace would’ve worked.

Retail Therapy

You’ve heard this before, Normcore. You’ve certainly seen the trend being embraced across the board with both documented street style looks and appearance of old school, fuss-free designs, sportswear inspired clothes, sneakers, slides and birkenstocks on runways. Heck, if Moschino referenced Fast Food pop culture, Chanel took us to the supermarket and Celine gave us the furry Birkenstock’esque sandal. There’s no escaping Normcore!

So essentially, while Normcore involves a departure from high fashion and working around normal people clothes, clothes that blend in with those around you like slouchy jeans, basic tees and sneakers, don’t for a second confuse the trend with sloppiness or frumpiness. It might be middle-America aesthetic but one that is put together with great though. Non-descript pieces that come together in the end to be something both distinctive and flattering.

Intrigued? Here’s our quick cheat-sheet to Normcore. Three basic, but hardly basic looks to get you started on the trend.

(Un)Covered

For its bridal issue, Vogue put a Manish Arora Couture clad Lisa Haydon on their cover. Lisa looked hawt; love the cover! Sure, some of you might ask how is this appropriate for a bridal issue?! Remember this is Vogue! And this makes-you-stop-in-your-tracks cover is the best we’ve seen from them in the recent times.
