In Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla
Alia attended a summit organized by the central government wearing a paithani sari and pink sleeveless blouse from Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla. The paithani pick and nauvari drape was in celebration of Maharashtra day considering the event was in Mumbai.
I applaud her for the effort but the pastel pink blouse didn’t seem to quite work with the rich sari. Just me feeling that way.

All kudos to her , absolutely beautiful seeing people celebrate our culture. And very event appropriate.
On the blouse, I agree , it was very disconnected. Maybe a last min change due to some issue it seems like because no one would have (should have) planned it .
The rani pink in the saree would have been great for a contrast blouse
Oh yes! The blouse was a total mismatch, a similar weave blouse would’ve been perfect fit, love her look otherwise.
Yeah the bouse is very random. and doenst go at all.
The drape is a little confusing to me tho looks interesting
I’ll say it because no one else has though am sure I’ll get plenty of downvotes — this is a totally bizarre choice for a ‘summit’. I like the idea of wearing a Paithani (or any heritage weave for that matter) but draping it this way makes it a costume inappropriate for the occasion.
Wear it at a state day celebration or the Met gala or an Oscar red carpet or even IIFA or a wedding and it’d work.
Here, she just looks out of place. Not even going into the blouse mismatch.
Exactly my thoughts.
FYI – it was Maharashtra Day 🙂
I have to agree! Plus Alia is not carrying the look and it’s everyone on costumey on her
I was going to say the same thing!!! It looks forced and costumey!!! As if to tick a box!! Why do it on Maharashtra day!!! Wear it on other days also- express your affinity to the state on other occasions!!!
She looks silly and absurd. I feel second hand embarrassment looking at that costume.
Okay here is the real problem. If you wear a Paithani in Nauvari to honour Maharashtra Day, do it properly. No-one of us would wear a Nauvari with that kind of blouse and with the pallu draped the way it is. That’s not honouring it, that’s cultural appropriation making it a costume.
