In Gaurav Gupta Couture
Wearing a sculptural gown by Gaurav Gupta, Aishwarya walked the red carpet on day 3 of Cannes. We’ve seen Gaurav’s design on the red carpet but I wasn’t a fan of it. Not the case here. Absolutely loved this one and glad again, that Aishwarya didn’t take a risk with the make-up. She looked drop dead gorgeous!

Super dramatic – Yes! Flattering – absolutely not! Her face is gorgeous as always.
Why not flattering ? Cos she is not a size zero ??? She owns the look and HOW !! It’s a 10
Ok that’s your opinion! I expressed mine. It has nothing to do with the size. I have yet to like one Gaurav Gupta design. They are exaggerated and out there and that’s where it ends. This is no different.
Shapeless dress that does nothing
Absolutely nailed it.. She is looking amazing.
FINALLY! Yasss queen.
Looking awesome. Wonder why she hides her jawline all the time. She is timeless.
I miss her full blown smiles though.
I don’t get it either. She has a chiseled, youthful face for someone nearing 50 and routinely crushes it at international events but her airport and local spottings are almost always in black, blazer or long cardigan, skinny jeans, flats, and severely straight hair covering a third of her face and 3/4s of her jaw.
One might say she dresses for comfort if it’s not a special event; still, some variation would be welcome. But then she hasn’t felt the need to change her style in a decade so…
It’s probably a reflection of her state of mind. I feel she doesn’t want to put effort into her airport and local sightings and wants to look and feel comfortable. And we don’t have to critique that.
I understand if she does that for actual events and red carpet looks which are usually spoilt by way of a red lip or her stylist failing her.
Totally agree. If I had that face, there’s no way I’d hide it. Gown has no waist, but somehow it looks better on her than it would on anyone else
I am in two minds. The color is great but feel it’s leaning towards a met-gala look… ( the balloon behind her head). A bit comical.
100% agree
Agree…looks too costumey for this event in question
Totally agree!
The designer has elaborated on it being inspired by birth of Venus like a pearl in an oyster…
Ash looks great! With that face she could be wearing a sack cloth and still carry it. But that dress!!
Gives me major Nagin vibes ?
I like the dress, but just not on her. It feels like it’s wearing her rather than the other way around. One needs a confident attitude with this dress which is missing in these pix. I agree that the simple makeup helped with the dress.
She looks like she has just landed with a parachute.
They do her dirty almost every time….
What is that ? Did she drop from a plane in a pink chiffon parachute? That’s one ugly gown in the name of drama
Way to make a statement!!
Love the color and the architectural element of the gown but what is that parachute thingy on the back? It looks comical
This is gorgeous
LOVE the drama! It’s not a 10/10 look but she makes it work.
Very dramatic, and Aishwarya looks absolutely gorgeous! If only the gown was clinched at the waist a tad bit; but little to fault here. Although these pics do not show the earrings with this gown, they were absolutely beautiful. I do wish she’d dump the red lips she tends to choose because the shades she’s been sporting in Cannes are so flattering for her.
Absolute diva! She is rocking it and looks like a million bucks ??
Such a fresh and refreshing change. The colour of the gown, dewy makeup and no red lips!
She looks so much better when her hair is swept or pulled away. She should do away with her flat, pinned to her forehead center parted hair that she loves.
Hate the gown! But that face is timeless.
This just does not work on her. The shape looks weird. Neck up what a stunner though! The colour too is amazingg
ok nice gown and all. But when you go for a movie screening ,how do you with gowns like these? Do you change or get a special seat , so you dont obstruct others views?
I was thinking the same thing…
It’s like the ghost of the Fairy Godmother from Mohabattein has appeared at the Cannes Red Carpet replete with a dupatta blowing in the wind sculpted behind her. Now think of her running in slow mo on the red carpet in that. Ahhh the 90s.
She looks ethreal !!!
This equivalent of applying a ‘background’ during a zoom call. Ash brought her own background 🙂
I know you guys don’t feature influencers,
However love the looks Masoom Minawala is creating in Cannes this year .
As to Ms. Rai , hope she keeps her makeup look from this Cannes back in India too 🙂
What poor soul had to sit behind her at the screening?
Ready for take off. Fasten your seatbelts.
Wow love all the drama here !!!
I wish the gown did not have the gimmicky parachute. If you pretend it does not exist, this is such a gorgeous look. Love her hair, makeup, the rest of the outfit and more than anything else, I am totally Fangirling ARB, she is truly timeless.
She’s beautiful and always composed and graceful. I love her for that.
This is a lovely look owing to make up, hair and the gown is pretty good too.
The gown does look marvellous in the pictures you have used, when I first saw it, I felt that it was just another GG.
I don’t like her lip makeup – Ash’s lips have been appearing fuller/broader than usual for some reason. She does it occasionally, using makeup, but I don’t like it.
What a beautiful color n look on her, I can totally look past the blown up portion of the gown, cause I’m busy looking her gorgeous self. Also, seeing Aishwarya year on year at Cannes, makes me feel like cannes is not a place for anyone, she blends really well with the stature.
I like the general direction of the design and it goes with the ethereality of Aishwarya’s beauty but the lack of a defined waist is really pulling down the gown. As also the exposed wiring on the shell. Visually, it’s a mass of fabric — like an unrelieved super-sweet dessert.
What is it about one of the beautiful women in history that she can take some very dramatic elements and make them look meh at least in photographs! The color is gorgeous on her. The gown itself would work well if the star and the stylist respected its bold lines. She does not have to be a a size zero, no one does. But she needs sharper lines –jaw, collar bones, arms — to make this gown look like it belongs to her. You can’t be in this business and not understand how your body and life choices affect your photographs. Give this to Kubbra Sait or the late Parameshwar Godrej or Malaika Arora and watch them werk it! Aish can rarely get edgy right. This looks like the memo had a mixed message — soft and edgy, sharp and not. And the hair, the hair! Bollywood is boring when it comes to hair. That’s just a life-long short-haired girl’s pet peeve.
She looks lovely here. Love the makeup, color, nails and structure.
But there is really something off somewhere. Her jawline and collar bones needed more definition for this silhouette to work. Where is the contour artist when you need them? The gown needed definition at the waist. As is, the gown is looking too bulky.
That aside, this is Ash’s best look so far at Cannes. I hope she would do better.
QUEEN!
WOW! Super expensive MOth
Both, the ones who have positive comments as well as those who gave negative comments on the looks have downvoted and upvoted in equal number. Aise kaise ?
Hi Malaika !
The colour is gorgeous on her. She looks lovely.
Now, what should one do if the movie screening makes you sleepy – carry your own pillow.
She looks rather dull, I think. Her face is lacking in any real kind of expression. Additionally, the dress looks kinda gimmicky and unreal. I wish she had picked a more elegant dress and done something more modern with the hair. Right now it all looks very mermaid-ish.
I think she has done great. She looks very comfortable in her skin to carry off whatever you give her in the way she likes it . Don’t see what’s wrong with it.
I read the comments first before watching the actual pictures and damn the comments are hurtful. Like for Gods sake –
1. There is a drama element and it works , one can call it parachute when Aishwarya carries it and ohmhgosh killing it when Rihanna does it
2. let’s stop saying the silhouette doesn’t have clean waist lines.. they clearly do . She is not size zero and we are so used to seeing models and celebrities who “fit “ that automatically we think she it isn’t defined when a person is heavier
3. Her makeup is good (not amazing but good enough)
4. People like Aishwarya cannot be critiqued in my opinion. She doesn’t give 2 hoots about anyone to have not changed her style from a decade. And she still remains the most beautiful woman in the world 🙂
Okay fine , this is a biased comment but guys she is almost 50, comfortable on the heavier side and she doesn’t give a f**k.. that just makes her a solid 10!
she doesn’t give a f ?? really? That is sush.. not this one
not drop dead gorgeous, but about to be blown away ..
