In Ituvana
Yami attended promotions for her movie in Mumbai today wearing a sari-dress by Ituvana. The newly-wed’s look was incorporated around her dejhoor (the long earrings worn by Kashmiri Pandit brides) by the addition of a gold Bhavya Ramesh choker and a gold cuff by Abhilasha.
The sari-dress in itself might not have loads of fan but she sure looked good! The white and gold color was quite palette cleansing given how we are served OTT looks.

Just skipping those long dangly things from her earrings would have made such a difference! They take away from her beautiful face and the classic outfit combo.
As noted in the post, that is called Dejhoor which is the equivalent of a Mangalsutra for married Kashmiri Pandit women. It is meant to be worn always as a symbol of marriage and not just for brides. Most KP women these days(including myself) will have two sets. A smaller more discrete one for daily use and another larger one (the bridal one) for special occasions.
Ah! I did not know that. When I made the comment, the post didn’t say what “Dejhoor” was. I thought it was purely a fashion choice. You learn something new everyday, I guess!
Apologies for hurting sentiments 🙂
Not at all! I guess it’s a testament to diversity of cultures in India. No person can know about all the traditions of every community in India. I am sure there are many things I don’t know.
My comment was to merely add some context.
Thank you both for having this polite and mature conversation!
Yes, absolutely, Thank you for the mature conversation
YES Thank you for saying that
Thank you so much to take the time to explain. I loved her earrings, plain gorgeous and was wondering if there’s a significance. It just makes Yami glow, and am sure looks beautiful on you too!!
NR I have a question please, Dejhoor, isn’t it supposed to start from the pierced cartilage on the upper part of the ear and not the earring?
True. That’s where it should be worn according to tradition. Getting a piercing on the ear cartilage hurts like hell though! Many brides choose not to get it.
In case you’re interested. There are two parts to a Dejhoor. The lower almond shaped part is called ‘aath’ given by bride’s parents and the chain part called ‘athoor’ added by groom’s parents after the wedding ceremony. During the ceremony, bride wears ‘aath’ not on a gold chain but on a red thread called ‘naarivan’.
I’ve read that the almond/hexagon piece (yantra) is the dejhoor (given by the parents), the gold chain is aath and the additional piece than hangs below the dejhoor is the athoor (the gold aath and aathoor given by the inlaws). I’ve had this conversation with SomR back when Kajal got married wearing as well.

Thank you NR. Appreciate you taking out the time to explain
I remember my Zoology teacher wearing these, I still remember her for her fabulous style, dejhoor, and glowing skin, and above all her kindness.
Beautiful! What a radiant smile!
Her face and her necklace are made for each other.. so beautiful! Adding that necklace shape in my wishlist
She looks good but not a fan of the outfit. It’s looks like someone wore a white shirt & pants and on second thought decided to wrap a random dupatta around for some childish play. Like the gold against white !
The dejour looks beautiful.. she makes it look beautiful.
I am so happy that P&P made a note on the ‘dangly earrings’ . Not many know about our culture and it’s always good to see the rest of the country learn a little more about our culture. We are a very small community.
Yami has one of those classically beautiful faces and innate elegance (Aditi Rao Hydari comes to mind) so most things look good on them. I also love that they’re not smizing it up a la Kareena and Bhoomi. The dejour is lovely – the blouse is kind of odd but the color combo (or lack of it) is lovely.
To praise one woman is it necessary to bring down another woman?
Love the accessories, She’s looks beautiful in those whites, love the saree fabric, hate the blouse/top and pants with it. The top being shorter and drape made beater would’ve really pulled up this look.
love this! may not care for the outfit much but the accessorizing takes it to another level.
May be in a minority here but I absolutely love this look! The clothing pieces are meh but her styling is impeccable! The dejhoor earrings, the cuff, the necklace everything looks gorgeous on her.
The simplicity of white against gold accessories is just so beautiful!
Yami looks lovely neck up .. this sari is a lost opportunity for perfect look. Better drape and ditching this tank top wud have been better. As is she looked like a kid playing dress up! (Esp in the videos)
The bangles are traditional Naga bangles from Runway Nagaland.
Awesome to know that! Didn’t notice it worn closer to elbows n how it stays there.
She looks absolutely stunning! Love her accessories , especially the traditional earrings. She makes the whole look work. What a radiant smile.
