Reception Style

Comment image 40

After going traditional for most of her other events, Sonam did more of a modern look at her reception wearing a chevron pattern lehenga paired with a grey choli and metallic dupatta, from Anamika Khanna. The lehenga may not be everyone’s cup of tea but she wore it well. I know many of you will pick on Anand’s choice of footwear but we think it works. The man, after all, has a sneaker business!

  1. I was expecting some over the top outfits, considering it’s Sonam and her wedding. She sure did surprise all of us with such regular, simple, beautiful outfits. It’s like she is attending someone else’s reception. She looks happy, like genuinely. That’s all that matters 🙂

  2. I love her lehenga. It is so unexpected and modern. Great look. The red lipstick is clashing though, I wish she chose something else.

  3. Payal, I hope you are getting some food and sleep – at least media in India is getting lunch and mithai Ka dabba for Sonam’s wedding! Thanks for bringing all the info to the blog so fast 🙂

Coming to Sonam’s look, I think I would have preferred to see some sindoor on her.

Wishing both of them lots of happiness!

  4. I’m pleasantly surprised and must say she looks good. It’s a lovely lehenga. While Mr. Ahuja looks good ankle up, I don’t care for the sneakers.

  5. Grogeous! A tiny maang tika would elevate this look considering she its all about her today 🙂 On a aside, her wedding is bringing smiles on instagrmmers and twitteratis’ faces, all joy and love 🙂

  6. Not feeling this color and chevron pattern at all. It’s neither chic nor bridal. The cape is just sloppy.
I wish Namrata let Sonam’s natural complexion shine through but she has an inch thick coat of foundation lighter than her skin.
    Her smile though,always glistens.

  7. It’s quite a striking outfit but not as a bridal reception outfit. Sonam looks like a guest at her own wedding reception!

    • Most guests upstaged her outfit -wise… And P&P, having a sneakers business doesn’t mean u wear one at the cost of looking strange at ur own reception!! LOL

  8. Interesting choice of colour and look by Sonam for the reception. Kudos to her for taking a risk and not resorting to one of those OTT lehengas. I like the subtle shades and the fact that she looks so comfortable and happy!

  9. Beautiful and very well put.
On an aside, how sheepish would the over dressed guests saying hello to the couple feel with their OTT Lehrngas, maang tikkas and bling overdose :))) maybe Sonam had an idea of what would roll and perfectly did the stand out in the crowd in beautiful style. My favorite look of the whole celebration!

    • Absolutely agree with you. Sonam knew how the Bollywood ladies would turn up in OTT clothes borrowed by their stylists and she decided to side step. Good for her!

  10. The lehengha looks nothing great coming from a designer like AK . A tad too casual for the bride , it’s great for a guest

  11. not liking the outfit of her choice for her own wedding reception. if a guest is wearing this, it will be praise worthy but not for the bride. that cape looks like a after thought of putting a hole in the dupatta, to make it easy to manage.
She is OTT almost all the time even for simplest of the occasion, and this is what she chose to wear for her own reception! scratching my head!
its your wedding reception, be festive, be bridal. That doesn’t mean you have to go OTT.
She looked gorgeous in rest of all her outfits. She has such a beautiful facial feature and her smile is her best accessory!!

  12. I think Bollywood has inured us to bling. This is a lovely choice for an evening reception. I also like that the couple didn’t coordinate every outfit.

  13. She is looking beautiful. Love the outfit and it is striking looking. However, it seems more like an outfit for a guest at a reception than the bride herself. It is just me, I still prefer tradition bridal look.

  14. Wow P&P, you defend so well on Anand choice of footwear just coz he has a sneaker business. So, how one should promote their lingerie business on their own reception. Like really lol u guys are devils advocates.
All Sonam looks were just mehhh, don’t feel like giving even a second look.

Loved it from head to toe .. she really is a fashionista … all her wedding looks are completely different from one another and she looked super lovely in all
This was my favorite out of all her wedding looks !!!
So chic … not OTT … stylish … modern bride

  16. The way I see it, these two wanted to simply let their personality shine at their reception. This is Sonam’ go to style lahenga and cape when it comes to Anamika Khanna and looks comfortable. Same goes for Anand Ahuja, his love for footwear, basketball and off beat fashion is well documented in his social media profile.
Its their wedding and this is a good way to make it their own, add a personal touch and honestly I find the simplicity of their look refreshing. After roller coaster ride through multiple events in the span of 72 hours, I kinda get why they opted for this. I think both of them look nice. If you guys see the way they hit the dance floor and let loose, their choice of clothes seem smart and will make more sense. I have rarely seen newly wedded couples having this much fun. My only issue is Namrata, she went crazy with the foundation on Sonam’s face. I wish she’d stop doing that. Once again congratulations to the happy couple and I wish them a lifetime of happiness.

  17. That’s a lovely lehenga and very chic! I am a big fan of AK and I have seen some fantastic pieces from her that are understated chic but more beautiful and would have been more suited for the occasion. Sonam looks lovely and glowing.
It’s funny how I find Sonam usually not dressed event-appropriate for most events because I find her looks often ott or costumey! This time I find her not dressed event-appropriate by being too understated!

  18. I didnt like it at all.. i hated the colour. Why wear grey to your own reception? The dupatta has a gold border in it which doesn’t fit in at all. Its got a nice flair but that’s it. The jewellery is nothing to write home about. Nothing bridal about the entire look..you dont have to go garish or bling coz u r the bride . Something chic or understated or modern or beautiful at least.
And mr Ahuja chose this occasion to highlight his sneakers… umm….no doesn’t work for me.

  19. Loved the lehenga. Chevron pattern is one of my fav. Sonam looks gorgeous. What really making Sonam’s look non-bridal is not the outfit but no trace of sindoor! That middle part full of sindoor (like Anushka’s at Delhi reception) would have made her look very bridal and that would have been more than enough to make her stand out in the seas of ott blingy garnish outfits worn by guests. There a video going viral on Instagram where some lady is nagging Sonam n asking to address her husband as ‘aap’. Typical of desi aunties but wondering why no one in the family asked her to put sindoor which makes more sense! I agree it’s a woman’s choice n most of them nowadays don’t put sindoor but I guess it looks beautiful n one can flaunt it till wedding festivities last.

  20. I think she is looking incredibly gorgeous. I love how understated her outfit is and yet it stands out . I think she looked the best she ever did in all her wedding outfits . She definitely lived up to her fashionista tag this time . Let’s hope it stays the way in Cannes
p.s- I think her hubby is too cute and is definitely carrying that look with sneakers pretty well

  21. She looks lovely and truly happy, but wish she chose something truly spectacular. Her Cannes looks and movie looks have been better than this.

  22. For all those asking her to wear sindoor – she got married in the Sikh tradition. Sikhs don’t usually wear sindoor or bindi, so this may have been her adapting to her in-laws culture

  23. This will get buried I’m sure – but how is this a nice outfit for one’s own reception? If we are commenting on her clothes – which is warranted to an extent by the number of videos and her “fashionista” image – the outfit is such a disaster. Who wears grey, dull lehenga with a groom in sneakers for your own reception? Agreed that the whole spectacle becomes a ramp-walk of sorts but why not? These big personal events happen once in a lifetime (for normal folks) and who wouldn’t want to bling on?
She has sported SUCH elaborate lehengas and dresses for school exhibitions and turns out in a drab outfit for her wedding reception. Happiness and cheer aside, from purely an outfit perspective WHAT A DOWNER!

    • completely agree with you!! sonam got caught in her own fashionista image, tried hard to stand out and failed miserably. you want to look best on your once in a lifetime event.. and this is far from the best!!
