Sari Style

Keeping it simple in cotton saris were Ms. Azmi and Ms. Pathak at a movie screening. The saris may not be everyone’s cup of tea but I sure loved them.

  1. Its sad that these ladies are very severely simple. Nothing wrong at all but these are outfits usually are worn by domestic helpers.

    • A comment like this ought to have been moderated. The ladies are gorgeous and so are these saris. While there is nothing wrong in outfits worn by domestic helpers, to insinuate that these saris aren’t beautiful because they are worn by a certain class of people is wrong at just so many levels. Such saris are also worn by lawyers like me who take pride in wearing cotton handwoven saris.

    • this is such a classist, sexist, irrelevant comment. and if this is your idea of getting a rise out of HHC readers, maybe you could devise a way to do it without sledging people without whom our lives — and yours, too, no doubt — would come to a standstill?
but no, that would probably be to much grace to expect of such a mindset.

      • What I meant by domestic helpers is people who help with housework (not necessarily maids, it could be me, you, our sisters, friends, etc). The point is this is something you would wear while cleaning, doing chores, etc, like “saree nightsuit”, not step out in it. Relax!!

    • Distasteful comment.

Actually kudos to the domestic helpers who travel in local trains, clean our houses and still make an effort to dress up in sarees, sometimes with flowers in their hair.

    • Many domestic helpers look more elegant than rich women. Dignity and looking nice is for everyone. Some domestic helpers here in London where I live just wear jeans and a t-shirt and look better than many rich english women. Its good that these two lovely actresses don’t want to look like a Christmas tree.

  2. love both! gorgeous bright colors, in cotton, draped so well. what’s not to love? the sarees by themselves may not be anything very remarkable, but they look so cool!
