  1. I bought the exact same kurta , same color same pattern, from westside 3+ years back. It cost me around 1k. The exact same copy in designer brand costs 6k in 2020 ? why ? who are they trying to fool

    • I believe genuine ikat is worth somewhere in between, about 2-3k. These pieces are hardy, fabric breathes because it is woven, the colour stays fresh and double ikats have even more handiwork. 6 yards of double ikat sarees cost around 12-15k.

The website seems to mention that the colours are natural and the fabric is ‘handcrafted’ but yeah, 6k is steep

    • Translate has had this kurta in this colourway for a few years now. If there was any ‘inspiration’ involved, I’m inclined to think it may have been the other way round. Also, their fabric is sturdy, handwoven cotton, and they use natural dyes, and the garments are well cut and finished well. The prices are slightly steep, but if their material is ethically sourced and if they compensate their weavers and tailors fairly, I’d choose the quality garment over the mass produced, if I can afford the price tag.

  2. I can guarantee that the inspired brand here was Westside. I have had this exact kurta for the last 7 years (!) from Translate and it looks like the day I bought it. The Colors and the fabric both. It’s only become softer and more comfortable to wear. 6K for what is not fast fashion in the truest sense, is totally worth it.
