Sabyasachi: LFW Summer/Resort 2011

No one quite plays with textures, colors and prints like he does, and this master craftsman has us gush, season after season. The khadi color-block dress, the peasant blouse and the floral dress were my absolute favorite (follow the arrow!)… I need to have ’em now. I must. Okay so now that, that’s out of the system…

Sabyasachi’s collection was inspired by the Save The Tiger project. Using his Bengali aesthetic and crafts of the region in a stellar manner, Mr. Mukherjee put forth a collection that was fresh, contemporary and still had his signature kitsch appeal.

The show started off with yellow and black toned ensembles (channeling the colors of the Tiger?) and then progressively moving on to other colors. According to the press note, the presented collection moved through various decades of fashion- the fun and freedom of the 20s, elegance of the 30s and 40s, 70s boho chic and the 80s daring arresting bras.

Loved the use of khadi and handloom fabrics and the use of earthy tones along with the brighter hues. Florals were just brilliant and we must absolutely get our hands on that bright printed sack gown. Oh but wait, I already said that! 🙂

Sheath Style

Two sheath dress looks paired perfectly with a colorful McQueen Union Jack Skull clutch. I was hard pressed to pick one because I just loved both!

Do you have a preference?

In deuxA and Masaba

Ms. Dogra has been taking in some of the shows at the ongoing Lakme Fashion Week. On Day 1, Ms. Dogra showed her support for one of the GenNext labels and wore a deuxA tunic paired with a blue denim shirt and black booties.

On day two, she paired a black cami top with a green skirt by Masaba that had a contrast white panel in the middle.

Which appearance do you prefer?

In Masaba

We’ve seen Mandira before in Masaba’s saris many times before, and so this recent appearance was no surprise. We thought she looked rather charming, just wish she had substituted her bag for a smaller one, if not ditch it altogether for a clutch.

Also in attendance wearing Masaba were Narmada and Jacqueline. Not really fond of Jacqueline’s look and of the two, my pick would have to be Narmada. The latter looked lovely!

Ditto!

Supporting her friend (and designer), Soniya was spotted at Masaba’s show wearing the same hand-print dress that we’ve also seen Mandira and the designer herself wear.

Soniya added a youthful twist to the dress by pairing it with a fringe necklace, one of her headbands and ankle wedges. There’s a lot going on but Ms. Mehra wears it well.
