Sari Style

Comment image 22

At a recent movie screening, Mrunal was photographed wearing a grey sari, one that she teamed with a small black bindi and pair of silver earrings. Non-embellished/blingy sari on a young actor makes for such a welcome change of pace; Mrunal looked lovely!

  1. Any saree sighting on this blog and it’s always “oh how lovely”. Not to mention Mrunal is hailed as some fashion queen due to her PR overdrive on all social media channels.

This saree looks badly worn and she’s not carrying it off well at all. It’s a miss

    • Better than the outfits the nepo kids wear and get a free pass by all and sundry, no matter how ridiculous their clothes look.

    • Yes depending on the wearer it is sloppy, wow, I would have changed the blouse, her hair is a mess, her hair is too severe, she never changes it up, her makeup is on point, so refeshing to see a normal saree, tackfest. Etc etc

Mrunal is a pretty woman and she looks nice enough. But generally the comments are a mix of people who read the blog who are generally middle class in their tastes and the stylists, PRs, people associated with the indusrty who either run down or praise excessively.

      • Not sure what you’re expecting than critique or comments which indeed range in what you’ve mentioned?
What exactly would you say in comments on a celeb style blog?
Can you give us a non middle class and non PR person example, oh enlightened one?
Save for the above such as above which really has nothing to do with this post or what this comment section is for.
        Toxicity maximus!

        • Toxicity?!!! Celebs are critiqued, PnP are critiqued but commenters (I took no names) should not be? Yeh kaisa rule hai, comments are not “nothing” and are part of the post. The thin skin of commenters is kind of funny.

I am Middle Class Maximus but I don’t except actresses to dress like me and judge them for it,

My comment was on how the same thing attracts different comments depending on the wearer, If Kiran Rao wore this drape it will be “so sloppy” and she would be advised to comb her hair. Maybe because Kiran is not relatable to the middle class readers and maybe she doesn’t have PR that writes Gorgeous on every post. Many such examples. Hope that answers your question.

Coming to this saree outing I think Mrunal looks nice but it is in my opinion an older person’s saree along with the blouse. But that is trivial and hardly worth a comment so I kept it to myself.

          • There is nothing called older person’s saree or younger person version. You wear you, what you want to, what you feel like

        • This blog was never meant for us “middle class” folks. Even when the blog started way back in the late 2000s, it was always about brand spotting which regular folks could never afford (and probably never heard of) and HHC would always have a link to a similar design or pre-owned stuff which we middle class ppl would have access to. While it was nice to have options, but it was a touch patronizing. I hope HHC realizes that their popularity is purely because of the middle income readers. The likes of Nat P and her ilk who HHC gushes over incessantly wouldn’t give two hoots about this blog and the commentary.

Again, I don’t care who they primarily cater to (it’s their blog after all) but I am also aware what they were and what they have become. My only gripe is they had some real crisp commentary on Bollywood fashion back in the day, now they seem like a PR arm of Bollywood celebs.

          • That is an interesting comment. But should it feature middle class and affordable fashion?

To me it was always meant for expensive labels and actresses and other celebrities and that is why it is read. As a middle class person myself I find it a way for me to know what is considered high end fashion or what is put on actresses and promoted as aspirational etc.

Personally in a million years I would never wear most of what is on HHC and don’t care for most of the labels featured. I find my dressing inspiration elsewhere. HHC is just one of the fashion sites that I read and I think it does it’s job well enough. For a future student of fashion it is a good time capsule showing how one part of society dressed

  3. it’s not a particularly unusual saree but she wears it well — tho i will say, scores of women in india probably wear similar/identical sarees with as much grace and ease.
all those fulminating about sloppiness/mess etc, this is a linen saree, and she wears it as a regular person would. i’d have changed up the silver earrings for gold but otherwise worn it exactly the way she does.

  5. Oh this is absolutely, absolutely gorgeous. Do you guys know who the saree is by?

And the silver jewelry is an inspired choice — most people (including me) would’ve reached for gold but silver seems to make the look more interesting.

The blouse is a bit of a needle scratch though, I think a different blouse, perhaps matching the saree, would’ve worked far better IMHO.
