Sari Style

Wearing saris, both Malaika and Waluscha attended Diwali parties. While the former picked a Manish Malhotra sari, the latter picked one by Kalki to wear. They both looked nice and wore their saris well. That sparkly fringe bag on Malaika though, just No.

  1. Malaika’s looking nice but her bag with the extra long tassels doesn’t go with the outfit. A small potli would have looked nicer. Waluscha always dresses like the 90’s. Wonder if Ashley Robello dresses her. He is awful.

  2. I can’t believe I am saying this but I quite like Malaika here. Yes, the saree is shiny and the blouse is a glorified bra but she manages to look nice. Love the updo – very neat and sleek!

  3. Malaika, tho she looks good (well, if you overlook the fact that she forgot her blouse :\), brings to mind that scene from Page Three where someone dies and everyone in the film industry calls up the most accessible designer and asks for white chikan suits. Everyone in Bollywood obviously has MM on speed-dial and he had only one kind of saree — solid color silks with thin sequinned borders — to send out on D-day.
Really, who are these people (rhetorical question, don’t bother to answer)

  4. Walsucha’s saree is nice for the color while Malaika looks damn good, of all the people we get to see go wrong in saree, Malaika wearing it with grace is nice.

  5. Malaika looks like she’s about to break into a Bollywood item number in that atrocious saree makeup and jewelry. Why can’t she dress classy ? I know they get MM sarees for free but atleast choose something less tacky

    • Malaika is just expressing herself…. yes it looks atrocious, soon going blouseless will become a trend in BW, and we will get bhashans about how ancient Indian women dressed that way and it should become a norm
      This woman rarely looks classy

    • Speaking of the MM sari here.., i am sure this costs a thump to ordinary people but these type of saris can be made with a sari border we can get from a local desi shop and a 6yds of beautiful material and make a better one imo..

  6. I think waluscha even with all the shimmer looks better than malaika. The only things I like on malaika is the hairdo and maybe the colour of the . Hate the bra , the bag and the glittery choker

  7. MM, Sabya, AJSK, Raw Mango (yes! It’s getting repetitive)…Bollywood needs to break this cycle. The last few posts are so cringe…all we are seeing is a horror parade of bad fashion.

I will say this though – for all her OTTness, Rekha wears the best kanjeevaram weaves and re-wears them. No wonder she is an icon and the rest are sideshows that no one will remember in a few years.

    • I think Rekha and all the earlier actresses have so much self respect, self worth and persona that they’d not compromise their stature to play dress up Atleast, their sarees or even their rare western outings are a treat to the eye.
Post 2010-2015, fundamentals have been all sorts of wrong in bw.. everyone is dressing bare and all wrong.. who knows what’s the shift. This Diwali Kareena, Karishma, sonam and katrina were well dressed from what I saw on their posts. last year Shraddha was so awesome in her traditional purple saree I still remember her look.

      • Rekha is unique. She discarded ghastly 70s Bolly fashion that was thrust on her and made her own look which suited her. And put it into her movies. It also suited women who were influenced by her. I can’t think of any other Bolly actress who did that.

She has stayed true to it. She probably needs to dial it down now but then she would be boring and not an ageing diva persona.

And I think her Kanjeevarams are her own, not lent to her for promotion. She is her own brand really.

        • AM, so well put. Rekha’s iconic looks in her movies (think chiffons in Silsila, Narayenpets in Vijeta, her brown lipstick shades etc) even her blouse design and cut used to be her own style. She reinvented herself beautifully after her earliest movies.

Again, you could see the distinctive styles of a Waheeda Rehman or Sharmila Tagore or Hema Malini.

What an irony that with a plethora of stylists and access to designers everyone is looking the same…

Priyanka and Payal, please do some posts on old Bollywood like you used to … Thank you.

  8. Malaika’s sari is luscious, I love it and also her hair in a bun with flowers! But Malaika ALWAYS feels the need to look OTT HOT and along with that comes the bra blouse and chest/butt thrusting posture that completely kills it for me. Imagine Diya or Karisma in this!! Don’t like Waluscha’s done to death sari either. Diwali has just been plain sad this year 🙁
