Lehenga Ladies

Both Kiara and Janhvi picked lehengas to wear to the Diwali parties in Mumbai last evening with the former picking one by Akanksha Gajria, and the latter a Manish Malhotra. Did one fare better than the other?

  1. I might get hate for this comment but I think they both always take the cleavage show to an unnecessary extent and that becomes the highlight of the outfit.. which is what they want I guess.

    • I once went shopping for my younger sister’s wedding and picked a lovely bandhani lehenga at a Delhi store. I wanted the choli re-made in a different color but the designer duo wouldn’t let up and were so adamant on giving me a “sexy sleeveless tiny choli” to show off the figure. I legit told the girls that I’m more old world actresses of the 60s and less wannabe millennial actresses of today so all this won’t work on me. Lol
My point is that even though they designed a beautiful traditional Bandhani with exceptional workmanship, their mentality is still stuck on the age old trope that women must want to “show off” a figure. I mean if that’s one’s cup of tea- by all means but it’s sort of become the norm to push patterns of behaviors like this on all customers.

      • That’s a revelation! Designers are quite pushy and talk you into wearing stuff as is.. other than fittings they seem to like no edits.

        • Well the original choli was itsy bitsy too. I wanted it made in another color with longer sleeves and torso length rather than a bra length. So, they definitely pushed me to wear their original design, thank Rekha I’m stubborn! Lol

        • I went to Sabyasachi for my wedding lehenga. Almost every blouse showed a lot of cleavage and I was told I would have to wear it like that. And you know I should cover up with the dupatta! Like why would you want women to show cleavage at their wedding!! Oh and I’m a 34DD. So it’s ample ample cleavage. Ended up buying my wedding stuff from other designers.

  3. Kiara’s (velvet) lehenga looks it bled all over during the wash…it’s distracting me from even the tacky choli! Jahnvi looks lovely but all the elements in her outfit are clashing with one another
