If you didn’t know, Katy Perry is in India to perform on Saturday evening. Bazaar India and Karan Johar tied up to throw a party for which had several celebrities in attendance dressed (almost) to their nines. Here’s a look at who wore what.

Anyone stand out in particular?

Natasha Poonawalla in Balmain, Alia in Roberta Einer, Aishwarya in Jade, Jacqueline in Alina Anwar Couture

Karisma in Givenchy, Katy in Halpern

Neha in Dev R Nil, Aditi in Namrata Joshipura

Anushka in Sonam Parmar Jhawar, Ananya in Judy Zhang

  1. The fashion aside, can someone please explain to me why Indian rush to throw a party for every firang that visits India, and every celeb throngs to attend it? Katy Perry is a pop star sure, but this is even done for lesser celebs as long as they are from Hollywood. I mean, people like SRK, Amitabh are super-megastars, even bigger than Katy Perry, but when they visit USA, it’s not like Martin Scorcese or Steven Spielberg (or some other KJo equivalent) arranges a big bash for them and the whole of Hollywood turns up to swoon for them. It’s just so weird to see Indian superstars like even Ashwarya, Kajol, Karisma rocking up for something like this when they are outright ignored in the west despite their major celeb status. It just smacks of a huge Indian inferiority complex to me, and looks utterly desperate.

    • The party was in collaboration with Harpers Bazaar so it’s natural everyone attending would want to turn it into a PR event for themselves.

Never thought I would say this on a fashion blog but Spielberg and scorcese are serious film makers and definitely not equivalent of KJo who has turned into everything but a film maker. 🙂

      • Paddy, I know he is not the talent equivalent of those directors of course, but the fact is that he is one of India’s most famous filmmakers. And whether the party is “in collaboration” with Harpers Bazaar or not, is irrelevant because it doesn’t explain why HB or any other mag does not hold parties like this in the West. HB exists in USA, like I said would they dare ask a major filmmaker there to host a major party with the rich and famous of Hollywood for ANY Indian celeb? They have not and they will not and it doesn’t matter if the last name is Khan or Bachan. That’s why I said it just smacks of such an inferiority complex. They did this for Will Smith, Hugh Jackman, Paris Hilton, Gerard Butler…I mean SRK is a bigger star than those people and no celebs shows up to welcome him anywhere in the West – even in countries with Harpers Bazaar, Vogue, Marie Claire etc etc. It shows no matter how rich or famous Indians get, the colonized mentality is still hard to shake off.

    • So there are two spectrums for us. Either we have slave mentality or we plainly act arrogance to acknowledge anyone from west ( mostly in fear of being labeled as someone with slave mentality). How about, Hollywood is THE most popular film industry in the world. The stars and pop icons of Hollywood are just not watched or heard by one race or one nation but the whole f-ing world. And Bollywood i , China- wood or Korea- wood etc are not. At least not at the level Hollywood. So I don’t understand why Indian stars should act all high mighty and not pose for a pic with a Hollywood diva, when she is being hosted in their town and they are invited to the event. I am sure each one of them sings and knows her songs and knows her for the star she is. Why being so calculative with every move.
I am just glad they didn’t act all high mighty and were humble enough to acknowledge that she is the bigger star.
What such party by HP Bazaar? That is business. Entertainment is a huge market and so is event management.

      • Srk: I can assure you that millions more people in the world can identify who Amitabh or SRK or even PC or Ashwarya is, than say a Gerard Butler. I live in US and had Ukranian furniture movers who rattled off names like Mithun (most popular Indian actor in Russia) to Amitabh to Salman, I have visited country as diverse as Turkey to Mexico to Poland to Czechia, where they recognize these names….so be careful when you just assume that only Hollywood stars are popular. Again, you are failing to see that point that more people on this planet (and many more than Indian people only) know who a Bachhan or a Khan is, but no one will ever host them in the West on the scale we do in India for even minor starlets. I don’t know why this is so hard to understand.

  2. For a split second I thought the host himself was wearing glittery heels (Aishwarya’s, actually)! Can’t blame me when K-Jo is grabbing the opportunity, as always, to pose like a diva.

  3. In the order of appearance:

Katy Perry – looks like her stylists didn’t arrive in time so she wore some discarded outfit from the corner of her suitcase.
Ash – probably got a last minute invite and threw on a jacket over her jeans and top. And hair and make up…same as always.
    Malaika – ok-ish
Alia – tied a belt around her blanket.
Jacky – that looks like a garbage bag on her.
Gauri – from what I can see looks fine.
Karisma – looks a bit underdressed for the event.
Shweta – was on a grocery run when called to the party. That explains the camisole top and jeans and the unkempt hair.
Kajol – always gets the pants wrong…this one no different.
Kiara – Didn’t get paid for Kabir Singh. That’s why her top is held together by safety pins.
Neha – looks like a comfy maxi/kaftan. Can straight hit the sack once the party breaks up.
Aditi – can’t look past the clown make up.
    Anushka – ok..what?
    Ananya – next.

PS: when you can’t sleep, you drop a detailed comment on HHC 🙂

  4. For me the best dressed was Ananya, Anushka and Aditi. Shweta, whose style I normally like, looked not as well put together as she always does. and Kiara, I don’t even want to start on, I rather burn my eyes than see that look again. Let’s hope someone put a gun on her head and so she wore this look, YAEEKS!

  5. To me, Anushka looks the best. That dress is right up her alley and she is standing out amongst all the glitter and tacky outfits. I also like Aditi and Kajol (ignoring the fit issues). Aish’s jacket doesn’t belong to that party! Too Diwali-sh for me.

  7. Anushka is the best dressed…love her look her to toe, so elegant and stylish. Kiara & Katy looks the most bizarre, followed by Jacky, Ananya & Ash.

  8. Anushka, and then Aishwarya for me personally.

Ananya ke liye kuch bhi kehna bekaar hai, she is a puppet doing what she is told in the sartorial department, none of which is her personal style given the comfortable lounge wear she favours off duty.

  9. What happened to Shweta bachan?
Anushka sharma ,Aditi Rao , alia Bhatt have my vote.
After that I would say karishma , kajol, Gauri & jacky .
Bottom slots for Ananya , kiara & Malaika .
Neha & Aishwarya stayed in their comfort zone.

  10. Anushka! And Aishwarya somewhat!

And yes people are talking about Kiara…. True that! But what about Katty Perry? Is it okay what she is wearing? Or we are allowed to comment on Indian Celebrities only!

  11. Ugliest outfits of the season were taken for a spin by almost everyone! Especially Katy Perry, what is that mermaid-ish thing, fabric itself is so cheap that I can’t focus on the cut, combination or design. And I agree with the comment above on this event giving a major ‘desperation vibe’ for Hollywood celebs.

  12. Katy Perry’s look is the worst of them all! I had to look twice, bc I couldn’t recognize her – maybe it’s the blonde hair that washes her out, in addition to the horrendous outfit.

The thing about Bwood celebs throwing parties for their Hollywood counterparts is, IMO, Bollywood is more like one big family, any happening party will be attended by everyone; any event will have ALL the major stars under one roof.

This doesn’t answer why none of the HW celebs throw a party or have a get together even (brunch, dinner, etc.). I doubt it’s solely Indian celebrities’ ‘inferiority complex’ like the above comments suggested. I actually think it’s also the fact that Hollywood and Americans in general don’t take entertainment/art/music made in other parts of the world seriously. I remember when AWR made that movie and she did Oprah, and as much as I love Oprah, I hated how those interviews went. I felt she wasn’t being asked the right questions for a movie star!
