In Amit Aggarwal

Janhvi attended the Beauty Awards wearing an Amit Aggarwal gown. Letting the gown take center stage, she finished out the look with a sleek knot and minimal jewelry. I know that this look might be polarizing… While I am glad that Janhvi took a risk and attempted giving us something unexpected on the red carpet, and I’d even go as far as to say she worked that gown somewhat, I can’t help but think the gown itself felt gimmicky. Love Amit Aggarwal’s work but this look screamed ‘costume’ and it was hard to get past it.

    • The thing is, there’s a way to look youthful and show skin but still make it work. My issue with a lot of these looks is it just either seems to be trying too hard or they’re just tacky (regardless of skin show). I mostly just feel overwhelmed when I see her on the red carpet. Which is crazy given that her options are endless.

  1. She looks so uncomfortable and the placement of the top straps, the exposed stomach….its everything needed to be brought down a notch. I think with adjustments this gown could have worked. Especially with the stomach area…but A BIG NO.

  2. Why can’t you call out for what it is? It’s a ridiculous gown and Janhavi as usual looks like she is 15-20 years older. There is no style or essence to her looks…just grabbing eyeballs.

    • Please don’t trash us .. mid 40 folks. 🙂 I can guarantee every women in her mid forties owns a mirror and if they don’t, they at least have picked up a friend or two long life who will call them out when dressed this disastrously. In other words, any woman in their mid 40s have style, elegance, better taste and more confidence… than the lady in question here.

    • I get what you mean by 40s.. when a star reaches end of career and screams for attention. Pity that Janhavi needs to resort to this show so early on in her career.

  3. For once I would love to see her in something classy and romantic, elegant and whimsical. Something even flowy or even a structured gown.

    This girl has terrible style

  4. let’s face it. the sexualization of jahnvi is not an accident — it’s well thought out strategy. she’s addressing her audience, which might be the 20-rupee front-rowers in the cinema.
now whether she’s consented to this presentation is something we’ll never know but i’m not going to lose sleep over her ‘appearances’ (haha, as if i would otherwise). i also wonder about the impact this has on her young woman fans (i presume there are a few) — but i hope they learn all about bad taste from these outfits.

      • When movies are made to cater to certain “classes” (rural, urban, upper class, middle class, etc.), then actors who are part of the same industry cannot cater to a certain audience? Don’t industry ppl use the term massy actor versus classy actor? When such terms are normalized by the industry itself, then don’t diss the audience if they call it out.

    • Near all of the Bollywood female actors are 50-90% naked in the majority of their appearances; it’s not just Jhanvi who is being sexualized. Agreed that her clothing choices are atrocious and her body is on full display here, but let’s be honest about the fact that the majority of the industry caters to the male gaze. It’s a rarity to see these ladies attempt to be modest except for on occasion with a casual kurta. And even then some feel the need for the top to be low cut or the back to be deep or the material to be sheer. Kudos to the female actors who can actually act and do not resort to cheap appearances. Miss the standards of old school actors.

  5. I totally agree. The whole industry is making money by sexualizing and abusing these young girls, (also Ananya Pandey as a case in point,) and all this under the pretext of women empowerment, feminism freedom of choice etc. It’s disgusting. And sad. And infuriating. I wouldn’t want to blame it on one particular person but somehow they keep coming to my mind for orchestrating this whole sexual drama on screen and off.

    • Why blame the young ones? I may be in the minority but Deepika P gyrating in that silly song of hers is sexualization/objectification at it’s peak. And when extremely successful, fabulously wealth women like her are succumbing to this, let’s be a little kind on the younger ones. The Jahnvis and Ananyas especially have grown in the industry and have absolutely zero exposure to anything beyond movies, stylists, Instagram and paparazzi!!!

      • Agreed, it’s not just the new/young ones; much of the crowd in the last 15 or more years are on par with porn stars who have the smiling approval of their family and money backing of industry heavy weights. Bollywood songs and movies have become so vulgar and trashy – exposed everything, and gyrating all over the place is disguised as ‘creative fashion’ and ‘bold or sexy.’ It’s no wonder their appearances outside of movies are odd; there are only so many ways you can put as much as possible on display. So then designers start this nonsense.

I know it sounds harsh, but this nonsense trickles down and makes it much harder for the rest os us to find clothing that is fashionable and tasteful. I wish there was a way to help the actors who fall under this category to understand that you can have a good body without having to put your body on display all the time.

  6. That is an Amit Aggarwal creation? Unbelievable!

The top part is so badly designed, I don’t know where to start.

Feeling sorry for Janhvi. She has no clue what she wants to be portrayed as.
