In Sabyasachi

Deepika attended the premiere of her movie on Wednesday evening wearing a sequin sari by Sabyasachi with jewellery also from the designer’s jewellery line. Loved the sari and hairdo, the makeup, not one bit.

I don’t get why her make-up artist does the under-eye eye-shadow on Deepika. It makes her look extra tired versus sultry.

      • It’s a good way to earn publicity for your film when you take part in a protest while promoting your movie. With that being said, even if she is tired protesting, why make her look even more tired with that make up?

      • While I think it’s great she went there, she wasn’t “out protesting in JNU”. She was supposed to return back to Mumbai that day, she took a 30 minute detour to JNU

      • I think that comment is an analysis of the makeup….so its towards the makeup artist ….nothing related to deepikas capabilities. I Respect her for it …but nothing offensive about this comment ….

  1. A glamorous saree for this movie’s premier! This is all what her stylist could think of! She can pick her Filmfare award also today itself in this attire I think.

    • I don’t get why she can’t be as dressed for “this” movie premiere and promotions? Is it a sad thing to show recovery???? Or is dressing up something abnormal and stupid?

    • I think I get what Riti meant. We saw cotton sarees, chappals, and jholis at yesteryear art movie premiers and it might be an adjustment to some folks that issue based movie premiers are getting a glam treatment. But hey, it’s 2020, and you can wear what you want, tell the story how you want, and there are no Deepthi Navals and Supriya Pathaks doing “offbeat” movies. The lines have blurred and all the “stars” are doing all kinds of movies. Still, why are we reacting with such shock that traditionalists expected to see a more subdued look at this event, letting the story and the storyteller shine, instead of a dazzling star taking center stage? I mean, if you consider the flip side, will Deepika wear a cotton saree and a big bindi to Cannes?

  2. The sequins, fabric and color immediately makes me compare it with the MM creation that Kajol wore recently. She looked beautiful and striking. DP pales in comparison.

    • Isn’t this similar to Manish malhotras signature sequin Saree….I don’t remember Sabya launching a sequin based collection unless it’s from an unlaunched collection. The Saree is good but the make up is not up to the mark

  3. Please go to Youtube and check out the Thelittleblackbook series covered by Harper’s Bazaar where they entertain questions about her glam looks from her squad and she answers this herself….how they started doing her undereye more although she didnt like it before…also, that she does her own eyebrows and how they started doing more slick flat hair. One thing we were speculating is how she got fairer and I think that has to do with some flashback from the camera for those who layer sunscreens under makeup which tends to change skin tone (aside from the fact that as Indians and having tan friendly skin, our undertone is always changing and contouring and highlighting does lighten the skin + the other thing is use of incorrect lighter toned foundation so that is the makeup artist’s fault).

All that rant aside, I am amazed her makeup artists were able to steal away the glint from her eyes! That blue shadow alone would have made her big brown doe eyes pop like no other but they literally shadowed that under the eye….This is a serious raccoon eye…

Going shorter with her hair I was hoping would make it look more healthy and here it looks drab (no, a slick backed style was not necessary here)

    Kudos for the saree drape!

What a waste of a shining moment otherwise…

  4. Wow, so much spite and hate against her! What’s with the notion that a movie about an acid attack victim has to be treated as a funereal moment. The whole movie is about how the victim moves up and on with her life. Why hate on DP for dressing glamorously for her movie? IMO she has more balls and is gutsy for 1) making such a movie and agreeing to play such the lead in such an overlooked subject 2) go to JNU right before its release.
You can critique a look per se and I have to agree some of these looks didn’t pan out the way they had imagined. But cmon man, to call her out for dressing well in a beautiful saree! It is too harsh.
I knew this trend of promoting and promoting a movie at every event will backfire and I can see now it is starting to.
I agree with PnP on the eye make up bit. She looks amazing though.

    • Agree 100 percent. We had Laxmi Aggarwal who was dressed in Sabyasachi at the premiere as well. This movie is about their spirit and triumph and how their circumstances didn’t change how they lead life. DP has promoted extensively with Laxmi including shooting magazine covers with her, that is sensitivity-not that she chose a glittery sari to wear. She looks statuesque and the saree is draped beautifully. Also, I freaking don’t care what she wears. She is ballsy than most of the industry and is a freaking goddess.

  7. I agree with some comments that dressing a certain way to promote a certain character is a huge nonsense. If some people choose to do it like Vidya for Ishqiya and Aamir etc.. that’s fine. It’s a marketing strategy. It doesn’t mean one has to be dress like a prostitute for Chameli promotions or a beggar for Slum dog Millionaire. “This” movie touches on a great subject. She doesn’t have to act the part off the set.
This saree looks great on her. She looks lovely but the under-eye make up is a miss. All in All She looks great.

  9. Holy.. This version of sequined saree by Sabya was worn by Kim kardashian in maroon long back for Vogue India shoot. So Sabya was already ahead of Manish malhotra in sequined saree game..

  10. With her frame, height and carriage, DP always looks graceful in a saree. This look is no exception. I agree with Payal about the eye makeup, it’s giving her dark circles. The hair needed a bit more shine and volume too. Looks stringy right now.

    • Yeah, they look very similar. I never thought I’d ever say this, but I think MM wins this one. The sequin placement on the Sabya is so random, it just looks like sequin craft fabric. To me, the linear sequin placement on the MM ones are more flattering when draped.

  11. Its such an opportunity lost! The hair and make up takes down the look several notches. I can;t believe I am saying this for a Deepika post – but I like the look neck down.

  12. Just look at how Laxmi Aggarwal dressed at all the events. Deepika and her stylist need to learn a thing or two from whomever is styling Laxmi

  13. I don’t care what she wears anymore. She’s the only A-list movie actress that showed up at JNU. She’s done a movie in which her face is destroyed. She took a chance with that, when she could’ve done an inane potboiler. She’s truly standing up for the underdogs. What a woman. Salute!

  14. I don’t get why people have been going on and on about how she needs to dress somber just because she is doing a film on acid attack. If you have watched Laxmi on Indian Idol, she herself said she loves to dress up. The victims need to feel normalized, this outward show of sympathy is completely not required.

  15. Beautiful lady, let down by her makeup artists..and don’t like the hair either..the sari looks great..Showing up at JNU can possibly be for the publicity of her movie! Stop being so gullible ..P&p please post this..this blog should not be used for making political statements..and if u are allowing one side then it is only fair to also let the other..

    • Yep and she chose JNU to publicize (if at all) and not a rally supporting the other side! Publicity or not she was there and that in itself was a huge deal! She chose the side the govt is not supporting, jeopardizing her film and generating a lot of hate! Isn’t that gutsy in itself?

  18. Sorry she looks lovely what with her bombshell figure. But the saree is a HUGE disappointment from Sabyasachi! Literally one can buy 6 yards of this fabric from any materialwalla and drape it as a saree! What, pray tell me, is designer about this saree? Same with the sequin sarees from MM? So dumb to call it designer when all you did was order material! Sabyasachi, I had better hopes from you… where is the revival of karigars, your creativity??? this is totally disastrous. Her make up just matches how pathetic this whole look gets. Deepika… please choose better next time.

    • Absolutely!! That is just a material draped as a saree, I also fail to understand whats designer about it.
All these MMs, AJSK , Sabyasachi actually can do so much but most of them are into the dumbest ideas.
Blingy, trashy and tacky outfits always.

  19. For me, the jewelry did not work with the saree. The saree has a very contemporary vibe to it and the kadas are very ethnic. A nice Bulgari Serpent watch and her wedding ring would have been enough with this saree.

The makeup obviously is a big miss even the blue eye shadow. The days of matchy eye shadow are long gone.
