In Dolce & Gabbana

For her recent back-to-back appearances, Deepika picked two lace-up Dolce & Gabbanas to wear, a corset for her movie’s success party and a slinky body-con for a party celebrating Akhtar-Dandekar wedding. Statement earrings, glossy brown lip, sky-high heels and signature updos rounded out the look both times.

Why Couldn’t Anybody Cancel Dolce & Gabbana? Here’s the link to an article you might enjoy reading. You already know how we feel about the brand.

  1. This movie promo set has been try too hard for Deepika.. most ‘looks’ were anti her persona and stood out like another person. I like the Bella hadid/kylie looks on her but it was ok for a experiment.

  2. Didn’t like both looks, not even on DP. I hate lace ups and corsets. The black look is still okay. The make up in both the ensembles make her look tired.

  3. She needs to fire this makeup artist and go back to the one who was working on her during the earlier looks. Also why are A listers still wearing DG… it is condemnable. I refuse to believe desi stylists don’t know what’s happening. Just because it’s easily sourced doesn’t mean it’s the best option.

  4. Unfortunately, I think a lot of people (desi & non-desi) are oblivious to what happened with D&G. To them D&G is still a prestigious brand.
But what’s worse is that there are people that are actually ok with what D&G did. They would call us “snowflakes” for reacting the way we do to what they think is “not a big deal”.

Anyway, coming back to the outfit, I definitely like the black dress better.

  5. P&P – I don’t know what your take on D&G is but since you’ve featured them in this post I’m assuming you’ve not boycotted them on the blog at the very least.

That being said. Does any designer who made a mistake ever deserve to come back? If not, then Chanel and Fendi who have dual offenders in not only Karl Lagerfeld but also Madame Coco herself, shouldn’t they be condemned?
Dior has the dark cloud of John Galliano and Louis Vuitton that of Marc Jacobs. Gucci, Loewe, Alexander McQueen, Rodarte and almost every brand out there has had some sort of controversy. Should we cancel them all?

I believe D&G are trying to improve. They’ve apologized. They made their range more size inclusive, stopped using fur and are supporting local artisans in Italy. No one is perfect and we all need to learn how to forgive.

  6. You know, I think its always the pictures and lighting with her street pics. There is even an experiment where just lighting makes one look good or bad/young or old.
Maybe her makeup is done for more instagram worthy shots or just that flashes make everything look so bad? IMO, she looks smashing in the black dress and very party appropriate. Her looks have been edgy sure and not everything has worked, but we got bored of middle parts and jhumkas, gigi hadid style atheisure and almost everything she has worn except sarees. How come she isn’t allowed to experiment and fail but others are given a wide berth? I haven’t been a fan of all her looks but am prolly just exhausted from constant criticism for her.

I’m seeing so much hate online for DP and I keep wondering why. PnP, you also haven’t really posted your thoughts on her looks this time. What is her persona? She might be really low-key and reserved (not film star qualities) in real life, but does that mean she should step out in joggers and tee to match her personality?

    • Please scroll a few pages and you’ll see that no one is exempt.
As for DP, I don’t want to get into her personality or what kind of a person she is. But this is a fashion blog where it’s ok to criticize fashion.
There have definitely been some looks of her that have been highly appreciated here.

      • Thanks! Long time blog reader here and it is with that experience I am commenting on the type of comments she (DP) garners.
My personality comment was on all those comments that say “these don’t match her persona”. Perfectly aware it is a fashion blog.

  7. the article says that d&g is ‘buying’ celebrity endorsements to get featured on blogs like this (on a very large scale). still doesn’t address why the need to keep featuring the brand here – when you guys “very strongly” take stand on individual celebrities with whom your ideals don’t match. to be honest, i don’t know how you feel about d&g as it’s just about any other brand that you feature on your pages. just keep doing what you want to do, no need to link articles on why d&g is surviving – it’s a no brainer, it’s the manish malhotra of hollywood

  8. So much hoo haa about the brand but you still feature them. Instead of posturing, please walk the talk. You were quick to boycott Kangana so what’s stopping you from boycotting D&G?

  9. Whilst the black is not my personal cup of tea, there’s no denying she works it like nobody else because of that killer body. The white, I just find tacky. Even she can’t salvage it for me. Can never get on board with those corset tops with lace up detail on the sides.

  10. Let’s be real…DP’s style, as it stands today, is terrible. Tacky even. The makeup is never right either.

On D&G, agree with other commenters – you either boycott them completely or just feature them like any other brand…you can’t exactly take a middle ground with something like this. That said, now that you’ve featured these not worthy looks, you might as well post Alia’s D&G gown too, it actually looked very nice.
