In Manish Malhotra

Wearing a pastel chikankari sari by Manish Malhotra, Ananya partook in her cousin’s wedding festivities. She looked nice! (I’d like this appearance so much more if the blouse was different. I get that the era of itty-bitty blouses is here, and it’s going nowhere. The geriatric millennial in me is however never going to warm up to it, but that’s a ‘me’ problem. )

  1. I am glad regular folks still bring out their festive best for family and friends’ weddings. Bollywood folks look the same everywhere – weddings, parties, award functions, trailer launch, item song launch, film screening, film success parties. Same formula – polyester/net sarees with skimpy blouses and oodles of makeup.

  2. Priyanka, it’s not a you-problem. It’s a problem, period. I’m about to start a change.org petition against Bollywood’s bikini top blouses.

  4. this is what happens when you depend on stylists even for personal events. you look just like you did for your professional events. that said, i do think she looks nice here even tho it’s not something i’d be seen dead in at a family wedding.

  5. She looks great. She is young and is allowed to feel free to break rules. The prudishness in the guise of ‘tradition’ needs to stop. Everything evolves. There was a time when sleeveless was considered a travesty. Besides, fashion is circular. If you are that passionate about what my grandmother used to call ‘airhostess blouse’, wait a few years, it will come back.

    • I so agree. Everyone across the globe and their mother are wearing croptops and bikini blouses and get lauded.

It is dissed a bit too much in these pages.

Agree her looks are a bit repetitive but this intolerance to certain elements is so off putting.

P.S: Go to town with the downvotes.

    • Agree ?. It’s little scary to see how most of the women are so prudish and regressive at this day and age . Agreed this is a fashion site but skin shaming not to mention age shaming is a recurring theme here in most of the comments

  6. Nah, not just a “you” problem. That blouse takes away from the sari. Sari would have looked SO much better with a different blouse.

  7. Every week there is a let us shame Ananya/Disha for the “sin” of wearing a skimpy blouse. Yawn.

Young women should wear what they like and enjoy their youth instead of being modesty policed.

    • Thank you for the Nobel. Did I say no criticism? I said don’t modesty police.

As for why young women only, it is because that is where most self esteem issues start. No matter how feted and pampered girls like Ananya may seem, constant shaming has it’s effect.

And as an older woman I can say most of us give zero f..ks so you can say what you like:)

  8. I know my comment is going to get a lot of flak but omg..how prudish are some of the comments here ?? I mean grow up . I am 47 and I know back in our days , we didn’t wear bralets in weddings but guess what ..times have changed . Have you seen the clothes some of the celebs wore for the Vanity fair ?? Cant believe a bralet is bothering most of the women here ..when we have an Urfi javed walking the streets of bandra half naked ( nothing against her … her body her choice )
This is the new gen ..accept it and move on . Ok now time for the bashing ..I am ready ?

    • Urfi has the balls and the confidence to wear what she wears and is an original, whereas these young starlets all blend into each other and have zero individuality…that’s the big difference!!

More power to Urfi and other self made women!!

      • Yes I totally agree . I have absolute support for Urfi and can really carry off her clothes . Is it my style ? Nope . But she can carry off the clothes and full power to her .
But is it fair to support Urfi and her skin show just because she is self made ?? Whereas when these star kids wear a Bralet ..it is such a big deal ??? I am not a fan of any of these star kids . My point is just that …considering we Indians have so much global exposure these days yet why are we just being so prudish ?? Why are we bashing celebs for skin show when this is the new age ? Every time a celeb wears a Bralet or something showing skin , these prudish clan takes over the comments and the bashing starts . Think it’s time to accept that ..women are now very comfortable in showing their bodies and full power to them . Stop with these age shaming and skin bashing comments. Ok I am done

      • Exactly. If all these ladies were to stand in a suspect identification lineup wearing the bra+ lehenga costume, the victim won’t be able to identify the right one ? It would be a line of clones – same hair, similar pastel shades, same makeup. You don’t see that in Hollywood. They defo try to look unique.

Agree 100% on everything you said. 43 here and wear crop tops in India.

  9. Imo she looks nice. The reason he gave her itsy bitsy blouse is becuz shes flat chested…n she looks more feminine with the girls been seen a little. Everyone is missing the point.

  10. She looks pretty here but that saree looked too heavy for this drape in her dancing videos.

Her makeup and styling looks pleasing. I liked the color.

I don’t mind the blouse too.
