In Sabyasachi

Alia was seen at the screening of her upcoming series in a Sabyasachi sari paired with multi-strand pearl necklace and studs. While this is an absolutely classic combo that I love, it didn’t feel like Alia was wearing the sari but rather Sabyasachi presenting a look where Alia was just the model. Oddly, I didn’t feel this way with the recent Abu Sandeep sari outing.

What do you think of this outing?

  1. I also saw some of the pics on her Instagram, I didn’t love her lipstick in the close ups – didn’t gel with the look in my opinion.

  2. Love Sabhya …. Each item is fabulous but I can’t get over the Sabhya model look that celebrities do while wearing his design …. so Ott.

Not sure if they are expected to do it coz they are borrowed clothes and so expected to remind people that’s it is Sabhya on the celebrity and not the other way around. I have seen plenty of mortals carrying Sabhya in their own personal style gorgeously

the velvet part of the saree… it’s overwhelming her

  3. It’s a mismatch. This black saree-pearls-slick hair-red lips is such a strong Sabya design aesthetic, it needs a strong personality to pull it off. A good height also helps. Not to say Alia can’t pull off a Sabya, just they this black saree might not have been the right pick.

  4. Exactly my thoughts. She seems to be playing dress up in a Sabya look. She looks overwhelmed by that pallu length and managing the pallu (shabby look) in the right most pic. It’s wearing her and she’s drowning in it

  5. Trying so hard to look like a statesque Deepika in the saree so much so one can just Photoshop her face on the saree. The makeup, pose, hair has got Deepika written all over it. Wish she opted for her easy breezy playful style.

    • So sorry, but every woman in a Sabya looks the exact same.
It isn’t the DP aesthetic, it’s the Sabya aesthetic – from the hair, to the jewellery and look design, every single thing.

Compliment/critique a look based on the wearers look rather than their persona versus someone else’s.

Also, DP isn’t the 1st person to wear a sari with hair tied back. She doesn’t “own” any look. The comparisons are downright “saas level” nasty.

  6. I actually love this look head to toe. Yes it’s classic Sabya but it suits Alia. Just because she has a young face doesn’t mean she can’t dress more maturely. It’s simple and elegant without being in your face which is well suited to her natural sense of style.

    • Agree. Should she only be wearing twee dresses n skirts just because she has a young face? This look is well within her style sensibilities- effective and clean (barring few cases)

  7. Come on people, give her a break! She’s looking quite lovely here and colours are such classic. The sleeveless blouse has helped keeping it from looking overwhelming. Love this look.

  8. While I think Alia looks lovely, can’t help wondering if a switcheroo was needed, this look on DP and DP’s look on Alia. This would have added that slight richness and oomph and impact to DP’s international red carpet appearance and these pearls would have looked amazing on her with her long neck. DP’s cream sari would look stunning on Alia because she really shines in simple, elegant looks and the simplicity of that look is truly closer to her aesthetic. Maybe Sabya’s styling needs to dive a bit deeper into the person wearing it and their personality and the event in question instead of just doling out practically the same old. I’m so glad he broke away from the regular fare for Kareena’s appearance.

  9. Sorry Ladies i disagree with many of you..i think she is looking Resplendent..she is glowing and the pearls are creating a mismatch only to accentuate the saree…gold would have been to cliched……lets be open to experimenting…my thought

  10. Alia looks amazing. The color and the styling is on point. Loving it to the T. Alia’s smile is adding the brightness factor to the whole vintage look!

  11. That is because while she made abu sandeep design something that is completely unique but while wearing sabya she morphed into what sabya would have wanted her to look like
