In Prabal Gurung

It’s Met Gala Monday and at her first ever appearance at the event Alia was seen in a pearl encrusted victorian gown by Prabal Gurung. With the theme this year being “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty”, the pearls and and the glove were the obvious nod to the late designer.

Alia being Alia looked sweet but I wasn’t loving the Victorian style gown which made the look overall feel too prom-ish.

What say you?

  1. A lot of people turned up in this sort of gown. Her hair and make up could have brought a little drama. She looks sweet but too tame for Met gala.

  2. Met gala fashion is supposed to be a little “Hatke” and out there.. this was probably better suited for a regular award show..

  3. Such a supremely silly, out of place look that’s fit for a Disney park princess audition…and to wear it for MET of all the places. Its mind boggling how Bollywood gets their dress memo mixed up so wrong and wear random stuff, looking completely out of place, and then follow it with a #Im-on-top-of-the-world insta photoshoot.
Major head scratch….actually make that #head-slap.

  4. This is a great example when a vision that sounds and (probably) look great on paper just doesn’t translate. The heavy pearl embellishment, all white look and beautiful makeup should’ve had such a bigger makeup but the look totally lacks a punch. The glove detail seems forced in a desperate attempt to pay homage to the theme and the dress looks poorly constructed-it doesn’t flatter Alia whether on top or on the bottom.

The MET, at its best, is about not giving a damn about what others think and just going for it-this is a look I just feel nothing for and igniting indifference rather than love (or even hate for that matter) is so not keeping in line with the sentiment of the event.

  5. Waste of an opportunity. She looks completely invisible. The design is nothing to write home about. Very middle eastern bride-esque which is right up her alley. Maybe next time

  6. It’s inspired by a gown designed by Karl that Claudia Schiffer wore on the Chanel Bridal Show runway in the 90’s. So it’s keeping with the theme, especially with the pearls Prabal added and the glove. I personally like that Alia chose what suited her personality for her first MET Gala appearance as opposed to going with extra drama that she may have been overwhelmed in.

    • I know really, I was hoping we don’t see over the top drama like Deepika or Kangana stylists did fir their looks. But this is so perfect.

  7. meh. that’s probably the worst that can be said about a met look.
that said, alia rarely brings it to the red carpet — maybe she can take lessons on how to turn it on from peecee.

  8. Its a gorgeous gown but it does not have the potential to be edgy specially not Met level.

Cut it up into a mini dress and added super voluminous 90s hair and wallah you have Madonna in Papa Don’t Preach….

I love the glove and that was my favorite piece from this oufit

  9. Superb look and very unexpected for a met appearance, it kinda looks high fashion western bridal, alia looks beautiful more like snowwhite with the hair.

  10. Alia please start dressing for your body type and OWN the looks. This did not translate especially at the MET… maybe for Gangubai promos would have worked 😀

  11. Nothing ‘MET’ about this look.. your regular disney princess. Not the best look for her height either.

P.S. – P&P any reason you don’t cover any of the Ambani’s? I noticed during NMACC and even more so now with Isha Ambani at MET not being covered.

  12. What a miss. The gloves have been cut way too prematurely before the finger – just reminds me of a cast for a fracture. The neckline just looks someone is stretching down a white tank top…

  13. Actually it’s a great look. Alia is just too sweet pull it off! The glove looks rather sweet (not edgy enough). The dress is BOMB.

  14. I am ssurprised by the negative comments. Alia did look lovely- hair and make up were gorgeous. The dress was beautiful but yes nothing over the top the way MET Gala expects it to be but she was so beautiful in this look- I dont get the comment above which said this is “gangubai promotion or panmasala awards look” – that is not fair…

I agree with someone above who said many people wore a similar dress. I actually thought Mindy Kaling’s dress was quite similar too without the trail. In any case, I did notice that Alia was not covered by the live video coverage on US TV- either she arrived late, or they just skipped her.

  15. The dress is beautifully detailed for Prabal’s standards but unfortunately the styling by Anaita is a miss. A different hairstyle could have salvaged it a little. The rest was left to the actress to add her stature, glamour and oomph to bring it to life which sadly was severely lacking. It also sits awkwardly on her frame. Screams more quinceañera than MET or a Chanel Bride.

  16. Her FIRST MET GALA and she wears this.

She could have saved this for filmfare and taken some real effort with a chic outfit.

  17. Alia’s petite frame is drowning in this gown, she is looking shorter than she is. I found the entire look very meh!
