In Michael Costello

Alia opted for a fun sequin draped gown by Michael Costello wearing it with a ponytail that was sleek in the front and messy at the end. Considering we’ve been served numerous gowns with lining issues, am beginning to think the theme of the event was Go Sheer.

Having said that though, I don’t quite mind her white bandeau bra here. A black one would’ve been too stark and a silver one, too matchy. I also liked that this wasn’t another princessy, feathery gown which earned points on my end.

Did you like or is the white bandeau bra a deal breaker?

  1. I don’t care much for the color of the bandeau as much as I do for how visible it is.. Why wear such clothes if you can’t really pull them off. Also, that hair .. looks like a mop you would wash the floor with. The model on the other hand actually pulls off this look quite better than Alia.

  2. Well first things first. At least she looks tastefully styled. Now coming to the gown and innerwear, this is not something that Alia can pull off by any stretch of the imagination. She doesn’t have the height for it. The model looks statuesque but Alia looks overwhelmed. Her face and hair is great but this gown is not for her.

  3. I liked her look
A 100 times improvement from her last outing .
I love the makeup and the fun vibe of the gown which the hair adds to. The white Bandeau was the only option to be honest and I think she looks great especially with the bubbly smile.

  4. That model looks AMAZING in the gown. I like Alia’s makeup. Aren’t the heels matchy? Silver bra and a non-matchy heels would have looked better, in my opinion.

  5. I think entry to the event was on presenting evidence of a bra.
Alia’s was the best of the lot. The rest of them, tacky, tacky, tacky. The stars have no clue what works for their body or how clothes photograph under flashbulbs, the stylists are brand-slaves-for-hire and the general bar is so low it should make us weep.

    • Very true. With the exception of Rhea Kapoor (faltering a bit of late), Tanya Ghavri and Poornamrita, everyone else is just a cookie cutter stylist with minor access to designers.

  6. I don’t know why Alia wears such overwhelming gowns. She clearly doesn’t have the body to carry it off. That inner wear is jarring. If you don’t have the guts show your side boobs then pick a more conservative gown. It looks great on the model though!

  7. The hairdo is what deepika used to sport long ago, the length of this gown is for a taller person… Alia can look much better being herself.

  8. On Alia, the gown is coming apart. Feels like sequin cloth held together with pins. It is only on the model that the structure is coming through. Most gowns are designed for taller people (I feel the pain as a short person myself) and just altering some portions of a tall gown doesn’t help.
But there are other dresses that do, and from the looks I’ve seen at this event…this is definitely one of the better ones (apart from Sonali’s).
Suddenly the IIFA carpet doesn’t look so bad…

  9. I love that gown and Alia looks pretty great with that hairstyle and subdued makeup…that white bandeau though is pretty distracting…I would actually not mind a same silver colour one. This one really brings down the look several notches.

  10. The model carries it off like a pro, and that’s what she is. Actors who aren’t multifaceted should stick to what they are pro at- acting, may be not fashion.

  11. The gown is really fun but it isn’t right choice for her. I agree with a comment above that said this was meant for a tall person. I would love for her stylist to take an advantage of her petite frame and showcase some unique silhouettes instead of trying to fit in with the model-turned actresses. That would instantly make her much more relatable since (lets face it) not all of us are 5′ 8″ and above. Her hair and make-up look good, though it feels like her team was inspired by Deepika.

  12. Height is not the issue , the gown was not altered for her height. In these silhouette height to width ratio of the wearer is what matters. she is not very tall but her frame is also narrow. If the gown was altered to let the part that comes on the model on waist comes on her waist, width adjusted to her width it would look good. Here it looks like a child wearing dress of a grown up.

  13. And here we have the classic case of fashion travesties that plagues nearly all of Bollywood – didn’t try it on myself, or look in the mirror, before I left. I would never have believed that this is the same gown as on the model. On Alia, it looks like a bedsheet, pin tucked in all the wrong places. Actually, scratch that. It’s just falling apart, and gathering at her feet (the model’s doesn’t). It’s sliding off her shoulder, giving her an askewed neckline. The material isn’t draping off her chest gracefully to pool at her waist and give it some definition. I agree with the commenters above, but I bid you to take another look: Alia’s the one with the broader shoulders, not the model. The model’s tall and thin at the bust area. And it is precisely that reason, along with her short height, that Alia could never have carried off this gown with finesse in any world. I like the combo of white with silver, but the bandeau is too stark against her main dress. Had her footwear been white, and her innerwear been transparent or silver, this could have worked. Like her makeup, though. (Also, what is with that third pic? Is it shaved in Photoshop? Just looks so….. unnatural.) I’d have wanted to see Athiya in this look; she’d have knocked it out of the park.

  14. Sorry but this looks like someone wrapped a piece of sequin fabric around me… and did not cover it up right. The white band looks like peeping underwear… all wrong esp given her height.
