Alia and Ananya attended Deepika’s birthday dinner on Tuesday evening doing black and white respectively with the former in a House of CB top and the latter in an I Am Gia one. Not only did they look similar to each other (possibly because they were styled by the same stylist) but overall, they also looked like a copy-paste of all the trends you spot first on the Hollywood celeb lot (think the Hadid/Kardashians).

Having said that, have a preference between the two?

  1. In a country with gorgeous textiles and stunning colours, this is all they could muster!!! I am sceptical about the Hollywood part…I cannot imagine a Saoirse or an Emma Stone in these clothes whatsoever. They look like any of the teenage girls hanging outside a pub anywhere in the world and let’s not even go into their personalities (or lack of)!!!

    • Yes, exactly. So many resources (and not just monetarily) and this is what they choose (or allow to be chosen). And this is not even a western vs Indian designer thing – just of all the options, I would be hard pressed to think of something worse, and what is better is so very obvious.

Curious to know what they would choose in the absence of a stylist – maybe the same. But I really wish these stylists would come up with something that does these ladies (and fashion in general) justice.

    • Couldn’t agree more!
Someone needs to tell them the difference between teenage girls and women.

Also, this constant need to show skin to look stylish and fashionable needs to evolve.

    • Honestly there’s nothing lol worthy in your review. If what Kardashian/Hadid is trending then let the girls dress up in what’s Trending. Heaven sakes people

  2. No, I get you can’t wear traditional stuff to a fun party…I don’t agree because you can rock a saree in a discotheque but I get it. But what is there to like here anyway? Why hire an apparently top notch stylist if you get dressed like this? Fun has to be boring and ridiculous like this? And if you are actually going for a non-curated look, then rock a white tee and a pair of denims effortlessly. These are apparently stylish people, celebrities with aspirational fashion sense. People on the street, the non-celebrities sans stylists dress far better and fun than this. Mainstream Hindi actors are such a disappointment.

  3. In Hollywood, no actors are trying to emulate the Hadids / Kardhashians. Most actors dress very normally, especially for low-key parties like these. There’s models with the high fashion and then there’s actors who keep it casual for the most part . Not saying Bollywood actors have to dress one way or the other but it does come across as trying too hard when they cannot pull off what a supermodel can!

  4. Black outfit = stripper
White outfit = One of the millions found in spring break college parties.
    What on earth man!
This is getting ridiculous. I agree with the comment above that Hollywood actually dresses pretty normally (to a fault someitmes in slouchy t-shirts n baggy jeans). Bollywood is always like an unoriginial-try-hard-wannabe.
Deepika wore a sweater and leather pants in Mumbai. How cold are their homes? Time to turn off the AC me thinks.

  5. P&P, I just saw that Ananya, Alia and Tara got their recent private vacation looks styled as well. Is this a new trend? I can’t seem to wrap my head around it for some reason.

As of these looks, not feeling Ananya’s look at all. Alia’s top looks nice but these mom jeans don’t suit her frame. A fitted pair would have worked better I guess. About the copying Hollywood part, well, Bollywood copies the best- be it films, music, fashion LOL! Gone are the days of original songs and stories and fashion. As I said earlier as well, at this point, anyone who wears unsourced, decent, weather and event appropriate clothes gets my respect lol!

  7. Lazy dressing. Imagine braving Covid19 to go and. hangout with other human beings after months of isolation and this is what one chooses to wear ?
For the person in black, I am a little surprised that despite wearing a bikini top and pants the look is neither alluring or impactful nor attractive. Something very cardboardlike about the appearance. Not doing any good to the wearer… does not even seem like her own clothes.

  10. Why are grown-ass celebs having congregations at birthday parties during a pandemic when others have to close their businesses and very livelihoods to ensure social distancing? Irresponsible and tone deaf.

    • I saw the pics on the PV – there were so many people at this party (and I don’t think it was held outdoors). One could place bets on how many people will end up with COVID because of this event…

    • Totally Agree!! I understand if people have to step out in public during the pandemic to work and to do their jobs but parties or any kind of social gatherings should be avoided AT ALL COSTS! I am aware of senior citizens who have lost their lives to COVID because some younger person in their house got COVID after attending parties/weddings. How irresponsible and insensitive. Lost all respect for DP and her celeb friends

  11. People are meeting for meetings birthdays, home warmings and almost everything that comes in their life. People are throwing kids birthday parties within the range allowed all over the globe. Important is to follow rules and law and not not live and enjoy. This is going to be part of life for ever now. Small gatherings with recommended numbers are way to go. Everyone need to align themselves and live their life and not hate on others living their’s following rules.

    • I had urged HHC to be more creative and feature people who actually dress well. They just post pictures of starlets …. wearing really bad outfits. So one can mostly criticize but not be inspired. There used to be a blog called the sartorialist where Scott schuman captured fashionable people …. street and or fashionistas. There is so much more creative meat to such an endeavor. India has famous dancers, theater actors, musicians, lawmakers, CEOs, I am sure they all dress better than these spandex clad starlets. Any fine day, a parliamentarian like say Mohua Moitra is better dressed, more gracefully dressed than 99.99% of Bollywood. It is a shame when most of our limited wardrobe and self styled looks are better than professionally styled movie folks. In fact, forget ethnic wear, I cannot even remember last time I saw a high quality fabric on any of these ladies featured here. Neither I recall seeing a wellcut outfit. Polygamy with polyester 🙂 is all that I see.
