In Sophie Couture

Wearing a Sophie Couture sequin gown, Aishwarya made her first red carpet appearance at Cannes 2023. The original gown didn’t feature the dramatic bow but here it was and because of it and that hood, she looked like an individually wrapped candy and it was not a sweet thing. Pun very intended.

Having said that, this could’ve been a fierce look if she’d worn that hair in a sleek bun. That would’ve complemented the signature red lip well.

  1. I know my comment would get many brickbats but I really feel she should embrace her face instead of covering it. I see this without any of the face covering gimmicks and it looks so much better.

  2. It’s a gorgeous blanket, but as a dress it’s absurd for real. Could be a work of art on runway alone, even the thinnest models can’t make it look nicer.

  3. This look made me really upset for her. This is just wrong on so many levels. Not sure who is calling the shots on her team but this is not acceptable.

  4. Is it just me or has Ash been hiding her cheeks/ears constantly behind/under that hair. All her PS promo looks had this same hair + full-sleeved baggy dresses with heavy dupattas?
The oversized pink pantsuit at Cannes last year had this same theme… hiding her cheecks behind hair and arms, legs, waist everything covered up under layers of bulkyclothes.

  5. It looks like maybe the dress was too tight so they slapped on the bow to cover it. Hair away from the face I think we should just stop wishing for it. It’s never happening.

  6. This would have been an interesting look (not memorable)…

Honestly, she looks like Jadoo is finally ready to party after landing on earth in 2003.

  7. My hands are itching to yank back the hair into a ponytail or bun or hell even just bobby pins tucking it behind the ears.. absolutely anything will do at this point.

It reminds me of something from Enid Blyton tales – a shy pixie peeking out from behind a trellis in a fairy tale. And I don’t mean that in a charming sort of way

This whole look is just wrong as someone said. and I feel really sorry that no one in the team (Loreal or otherwise) voiced it out loud, and then this disaster happened.

  9. I actually like the dress itself the way it’s presented without the sash. The way Aish wears it is exactly with the same hair and makeup as her umpteen Manish Malhotra anarkali’s with her hair covering the lovely black bodice and her red lipstick, bringing the whole look down notches. So disappointing.

  10. Ash combines Met gala with Cannes and calls it a day.
Like her but not her in this dress. The bow is clearly an after thought.

  11. I think Ash is laughing at us. We wanted the hair to be away from the face.
Now we have the hair covering the face and a hood covering the hair, covering the face.
Some said the previous dress was boxy, now the box has a bow and is wrapped in foil. She indeed foiled the universe’s sartorial plans.

  15. The dress does nothing for her. The dress itself is a monstracity, with and without the bow. With her vast experience and body of work, I dont understand how she even agrees to show up in these clothes.the video of her walking in this dress was just bad. Sigh, broken record…

  16. Disappointing. Normally she manages to bury her gorgeous face in her hair, this time she added another layer to it; a bloody gigantic hood. Minus the hood and bow, i.e., just the black corset upper with the silver skirt she probably would have aced the look.

  17. The outfit sketch has a black tie up bow ..saw it online . aish shud have gone for a thinner bow belt as gown already has volume, and made the black corset inside more visible. .not her best BUT Good to see her experimenting tho.

  18. I liked the dress and the hood too. That bow though, a whole other story. It feels like the dress was too tight and she had the bow added to cover ‘curves’. Not needed!

  19. I think Deepika Padukone could have sold this look , on Ash it’s just comical . Kudos for trying something new while the newbie actresses are wearing conventional stuff. But still it’s not her aesthetics in any way or form

  20. I think I will leave Aishwarya alone with just one comment. She chose the wrong outfit.
The designer really did a con job with this dress. This will suit no one, maybe Grace Jones can uplift it. But, the sheer geometry of this dress is a disservice. Boxy, Baggy, Big, and completely a mishmash of beautiful things gone wrong together.

  23. There are these bags available now, using upcycled discarded packets of chips and other foil-packaging. The ‘fabric’ looks exactly like this.

  24. Atleast she could have changed her hair style! Sick! Boxy loose silhouettes seems to be her pick for this Cannes. That green Valentino dress and now this snake skin awful dress

  25. Posts about Aish generates the highest comments on this site . Unfortunately not always for the right reasons .
Interesting gown ruined by the black bow which I guess is to cover her curves (!!) . Her stylists and PR teams do an awful job of helping her embrace her curves and own it . I love Aish but hate the folks who did this to her .

  26. I don’t mind the gown. It needed an edgier, tall person to carry it off and she is definitely not edgy.
Saw a comment on IG that summed up the look so well…’ shawarma peeping from under the foil’…hahaha

  27. Geisha makeup, bharatnatyam pose in a few other pics, the perpetual hair and red makeup. To add to it, the giant bow that looks like she carried it from Aaradhya’s last birthday gift wrapper. Should have just worn and AJSK tent and called it a day.

Take off the bow. Keep the original version of the gown.

Show some more of the corset and neck, sleek pulled back hair and black or oxblood lipstick and she could have slayed. As is, falls FLAT!
