In Dolce & Gabbana

Comment image 54

Wearing a black Dolce & Gabbana gown featuring a dramatic florals, Aishwarya attended day two of Cannes. At first glance itself, I wasn’t a fan of the gown. Not just because it is D&G, but also because the floral details make the gown look very doll-costume-ish. But, let’s focus on Aishwarya here. Perhaps it is the fact that we have her here again not sporting that signature dramatic red lip that am quite loving her here waist up.

What did you think?

  1. I want to like it, I really do, but it reminds me of someone who fell into a flowering shrub and, um, didn’t manage to get away unscathed.

  2. I don’t like this at all….i think it’s a combination of the gown and it on her. I think I’d have liked it more if the flowers were just on the arms and not running throughout the dress. I also think that there are so many options other than D&G for her stylist to choose from and this is disappointing on multiple levels. The makeup is nice though.

  3. Oooh my wowzah! She looks lovely. The black material gives the feeling like it’s a cover for the floral bouquet-like dress just because it’s a very contrasting color.

  4. That is such a tired design. I can’t be the only one who feels that they have seen this design before.

On an aside, her gown looks like an explosion cake.

  5. That fabric, the close up looks horrible. Why is she always doing poofy children’s ball gowns. Wait, I know the answer…..The Valentino, now this, they all look ill fitted. Do not even get me started on floral monstrosity. I understand she dresses for her girl but Come on now….I’d love to see her going back to form fitting gowns.

  6. Don’t like it a bit. Sonam’s floral gown was way better. But my question is – how come we are featuring D&G back on this page?

  7. I think the bigger issue is that she doesn’t look like she is enjoying herself. She is looking stiff and something about her face looks so different.

  8. Hair and makeup and the gorgeous face… are spot on. The dress is disappointing. I think it’s the starkness of the black against the colorful bouquet/flower arrangement! It looks like an afterthought; sort of like, let’s make a slit in the dress and stick some flowers in there and oooh, let’s sew some on the sleeves as well. If the dress were a blush pink… maybe….

    • I was thinking if the whole outfit was tonal it would have looked nice. Imagine this if the dress were blush pink and the flowers all different shades of pink.

  9. Don’t like the dress at all , looks inexpensive like it’s from Amazon lol. Hair and makeup so meh… seems like these are now forced appearances at Cannes . I mean doing this for 20 years I’m sure she’s bored !

  10. So disappointed that indian celebs are using one of the racist label who have Time and again proven that they have no respect for people and their cultures.

    • Came here to say exactly the same thing – given the narrative of D&G founders towards Asians, it is extremely disappointing to see ARB giving them the airtime.

  11. Had they left the sleeves alone and given all the focus to the flower detail on the skirt, this would have been a winner.

Lovely seeing Aish in dramatic eye makeup and pink lips. Her hair is beautiful.

How hard is it to do a hair pulled back look at home Aish? You look lovely here!

  12. I love it! Don’t mind the floral design at all on the gown itself but wish the sleeve was a tad less balloon-ish. Having seen Ash in uninspiring blazers and leggings with Morticia Addams hair and chilli red lip, I was expecting to see another dud from her styling team but this is a nice change. Her hair looks gorgeous and I’m happy to see her jawline after a long time.

  14. Hey Bhagwan! This gown should be placed as the definition of hideous in Webster’s! Although her makeup is okay, I’m not sold on that center-parted half updo. She and her team threw both ethics and better judgment into the Mediterranean Sea with their choice of designer and outfit.

  15. Why aren’t you featuring other Indian women at Cannes like Hina Khan, Urvashi Rautela or Masoom Minawala? Is it because they are not very well known? Just curious

  16. Love her hairdo which is showing more of her face than the mid parted hair she always sports and make up is light too… She works the gown! The florals on sleeve could have been less voluminous. But that aside, it’s a fab look.

  17. I know it’s designer, but the gown looks very cheap somehow. Both the black fabric and the flowers. This particular combination of colors reminds me of those awful plastic flowers you get in some shops. Make up at least is better than the awful red lip she usually sports.

  18. Over the years, Aishwarya’s style on the red carpet has lost charm. Nothing seems effortless and fluid anymore. Even her smile seems forced and sits heavy on her face. This comment is not just about the actor’s effort (or lack thereof) but also about the stylists and makeup artists who are supposed to work together to showcase her individuality/personality. Everyone seems to have given up on the game.

  19. Maybe unpopular opinion but some things are best left to white people. An SJP can carry this off but many of our actresses look like they are simply placed inside a dress, some make up slapped on and then sent out. Though I am no fan of Sabya, if I think about it Indian wear or classic contemporary styles do work better.

  20. The gown looks like a Project Runway challenge in which the designers were asked to source materials from a flower shop. Also, what’s with the un-ironed satin fabric? It’s got creases everywhere! Her make-up is nice, but her hair looks lackluster. A wispy low bun would’ve softened the look.

  21. I am sorry to say but quite hideous . She would do better to tone down to simple cocktail dresses and knee length gowns rather than weird looking flowery tents which make her look voluminous .

  22. If only the dress had flowers in the gown part only and not on the shoulders/sleeves, and if only the flowers were less gimmicky and more softer in look, it could have worked.
Honestly disappointed by this one and this is coming from someone who waits whole year for her looks, as Cannes is the only place where she in her full element.

Hoping that she has something interesting in store in coming days.

  23. This gown has a playful fun quality,I think Aishwarya looks very good in it. If someone like Zendaya would have worn it people would have been singing praises, but unfortunately Aishwarya always gets trolled for experimenting

  24. Why r we subjected to this torture yr after yr…is there a reason y the makeup brand still keeps Ash as their brand ambassador..she has no dress sense nor make up sense…wears the most garish make up n costume..and a plastic face with no expressions. Noone from the younger generation look upto aiswarya for makeup or fashion..still y is she here yr after yr

    • “No one from the younger generation..” is generalising it. She has an international appeal and is the quintessential Indian beauty. And not like only the younger generation follows Cannes.
And none of the celebs’ personal makeup or styling choice is relevant for Cannes or any of these big events. It’s always upto the brands, stylists and designers.
To give you a simple example, the amount of likes and comments on this very blog of Ash’s appearance at Cannes generates is always the highest. It may not be everyone’s cup of tea but she generates and garners that amount of attention. And that’s what matters.
And I would suggest you refrain from using ‘plastic and expressionless’ in reference to her. What’s plastic? And what expression can be expected from a still photograph? She’s composed and poised. And hers was a sought after face for a lot of reputed International brands. Still is.
Let’s just appreciate each individual beauty or keep it limited to critiquing fashion.

    • Didn’t know makeup brands were supposed only cater to younger generations, as if the older generations cease to exist just cause you have arrived ,lol
