she looks SPECTACULAR (other than her ill-fitting bra of course)

she does dress better…but it can be much better… she’ll get there i hope… nevertheless…she’s an amazing actress and that’s what matters most

She does look preety and has dressed better. but I can ignore the pictures of her boobs. Looks like they are swinging in opposite direction.

i just wished this was ironed well! and yeah the inner wear needs a lot of work!
btw, why does the poor thing look like a cornered mouse!
    and she needs broader shoes!

Are you guys serious? This is not a good look for Vidya. The bodice does not fit and cap sleeves make the arms look big. Not to mention the shoes are ugly.

    she looks good! yay!

it was a good idea to choose a monochrome dress…the focus is directly on her face where the simple makeup makes her look chic! will forgive her for the innerwear…better luck next time *sigh*

why bother? why wont she just wear a saree if that looks better on her? I think you should make most of the look u get complimented on…

I think she looks OK, not that great! The color is way too bold for her and shoes a no no…she is too big to be wearing those shoes IMO.
But, yes definitely better than what we have seen her in the past, hope she gets better coz I like her quite a lot otherwise.
I think loosing 5-10 pounds can make all the difference in the world esp if she is hell bent on wearing ‘western outfits’. And she should not say that she is happy with her weight coz that’s rubbish. If she is happy with her weight, then she should stick with a sari.

She looks better than in many previous appearances but that doesn’t really mean she looks GOOD! She simply doesn’t have the specs to carry off western outfits well… She has such an Indian face and body-type, she CAN stick to Indian clothes..

    @Flower Power,

Wow, I didn’t realize there was an “Indian” body type besides the universally known shapes – apple and pear… ur comments r so discriminating…why shud she stick to Indian clothes?? being a little plump doesn’t mean she can’t wear western…ask obese women out there who would kill to be her size …or think abt when u age, and lose shape…what matters most is how well u can carry the outfit…now I am curious, what is ur definition of looking good?

People,I am in love with this blog-I designed this dress for my january collection-also got it done in a dull gold, rose pink and wine red(which was the first one to get picked up).
I think I went wrong with the fabric though.

Hi Anon, By an ‘Indian’ body-type, I mean the big-chested, big-hipped body celebrated in classical art, the temples of Khajuraho, you name it. The term was not used pejoratively, but you will admit such body-types cannot be considered similar to the archetypal Western body (say a Gwyneth Paltrow or a Jen Aniston, which is much less curvaceous). Western clothes do hang better on a flatter body (which is why a Katrina or a Kareena can carry them off so well) and Indian clothes are, well, MADE for an Indian body. A Liz Hurley can carry off a saree because she’s voluptuous; so can Vidya. Of course, no body shape (or age or weight) bars anyone from wearing anything under the sun; it’s just that certain clothes look better on certain kinds of bodies — and that’s something, I am sure, no one can have an argument with.

kudos to vidya! keep it up and we may actually look forward to seeing what she has to wear

vidya is not overweight. bipasha basu is smoking hot and is not skinny at all. she must be size 10 to 12 UK. vidya’s problem is that she is completely untoned and flabby. this gives the illusion of being plump. being short doesn’t help either.

@ jaishree – do you remember which size dress vidya bought from you?

Finally Ms. Balan gets it (almost) right. She may not be rail thin but she has a beautiful face and talent. I do not agree with the ridiculous people who think she needs to weight to look good in western clothes (like all women in the West have the body of Victoria Beckham). As long as Vidya learns to dress according to her body type, she will be fine.

When I looked at this picture, I thought it should be under WTHEYY…the pads in the dress are unforgiveable. This is no right direction…this is worse than anything else.

I agere with carol… what is wrong with everyone? Or is everyone sayin yeyy coz p&p said yeyy?

This is a really bad looking dress and vidya’s looking pretty sad! The color’s too loud, the fabric too cheapy-shiny, and the fit pathetic!

You know, it reminds me of about 10 yrs ago when as a 16 yr old, to go to the MayBall i used to go hunting for fabric and then get it tailored. And sometimes the tailored goofed it up so badly i would howl and refuse to wear it. I swear this dress reminded me exactly of that…

  24. Anita at | | Reply

I dont think its her weight or height that’s the problem.. rather that VIdya seems to have no idea how to put western outfits together.. she dresses “old”

  25. b at | | Reply

The color is nice, but I don’t care for the dress. And what’s up with the pointy bra underneath??? I just don’t understand how no designer has been able to dress her right…it has to her who refuses certain outfits because the rest of the actresses tend to trust their designers completely…or maybe she just can’t carry certain outfits…don’t know!

Hey Anon and Ila, my label is called FLIRT.I just started out late last year-do lots of dresses and skirts etc.Hard Kaur walked in picked up some stuff without trying it out at all,so did some tv stars-I had an exhibition in Lokhandwala so they live around the corner and just walked in.As for Vidya-I sold her a US size 10 I think. Now that shes worn it the fabric-which is a light satin with lining looks a lil cheap-I am still learning I guess.

  28. Jaishree at | | Reply

Anon, I mostly have tv stars come in and buy stuff and defenitely no one in the big league-again my stuff is not made to order I just design stuff and put it there-if they like it they can buy it-priced very well or so I think-Hard Kaurs dress was maybe 600 bucks-its cotton. This one was 750 or 800.

  29. Foxie at | | Reply

i’m sorry if i criticized the dress too vociferously.. didn’t read your comments to see that u designed it. Apologies, sista…but only for the language. In opinion, i maintain… agreeing with you that u still got some learning.
And hey, nice to know that all these tv people do wear things (even to events) that are not expensive! :)

    Another question…
is the hem of the dress supposed to be fluffy to give it the balloon look or is it just not ironed well? Is it a huuuuge in-fold i notice there?

  31. ila at | | Reply

    @ jaishree

well done for starting up your own business. i’m sure it’s going to do well

I like the outfit and of course like everyone already said, the bra needs a lot of work. Dont like her hair though. Would be great for her to pull it away from her face and show some neck.

Jaishree: I like the design. Great work. Like you said, the fabric comes across as one of those cheap silk types. Maybe its the color or the lighting.

Flower: I agree on the Indian body type. Loved Vidya’s look in Parineeta because of the lovely Bengali saris. I think there is nothing wrong in sticking to the INdian outfits till she gets it right. How I wish to see her in a low neck blouse with a nice flowy skirt!

Thank you for all your support. I am with you as far as the fabric is concerned, looks really bad here- not a balooned dress, it just needs ironing.
Foxie, all criticism is well taken-this will hopefully help me get better.
