In Anavila

Sonam helped inaugurate the Kashish Film Festival on Wednesday and for the appearance picked an Anavila sari look straight from the AIFW runway. Like the model, she too wore the chotu sari with oxfords but wore her hair straightened and side swept.

The sari length being smaller is a tricky one to wear and even style, but I think she wore it well. Now, would I be able to pull this sari off, probably not. Would you try wearing this style in real life?

  1. Nah.. I don’t think it works at all – on Sonam or the model.
I did like the modern art version of the saree she wore to Cannes πŸ™‚
But distorting a saree doesn’t work most of the time.

  2. It does not even work on the model. It is not a wthey only because Sonam’s height helps. Otherwise, pretty ridiculous. The 3rd pic, first row, quite a mess.

  3. With the better drape and her height, Sonam aced where Mini failed. Similar blouse & saree look but Sonam looks so much better!!

  4. I think it’s a wtheyyy all the way. Why oh whyyyy!!i just don’t understand the point of these strange outfits that make you look ridiculous in the name of “fashion”. Sonam needs to give it a rest. The so called fashionista ends up looking ridiculous anytime she wears these funky outfits. The most compliments she gets is when she wears simple and normal clothing.

    • Agree. Sonam thinks she will be a fashionista if she wears these kind of hideous outfits. She is not a fashionista, but she is a pretty girl with girl next door looks. She looks her best when she wears simple and elegant clothes with some poise.

  5. why cant they leave the saree alone.. i think its as versatile a garment as it is… why mess with it!!

sonam most definitely doesnt pull it off. nor does the model

    • But we need to push boundaries – I’m not saying I like this avatar of the sari, but how can one go forward in terms of fashion without testing and trying new silhouettes and styles?
Sure, not everything will work – but thats the beauty of fashion and self expression. How can we stifle creativity by always telling designers what they can and can’t do?

  6. If the goal of wearing this sari style is to make your hips look twice their size and also look ridiculous in the name of fashion, she nailed it!

  7. if you want to stand out by virute of looking silly, yes it works.
if you want to be quirky, original, no this does not work.
The actress here represents a self-titled fashionista. But truly, she is faithful to the model rendition, and does not create a niche. Besides, it looks silly on the model too.

    • I guess since you donΒ΄t follow Sonam Kapoor, you never read all the fashion magazines calling her a fashion icon before that infamous Koffee with Karan episode. Because self-titled, she is not. πŸ˜‰

I love this look for the different take it is on sarees, as a fashion lover. But i think not everyone can pull it off easily.

  8. This reminds me of the way my Bai ties her sari high on her waist. Never thought of her as a fashionista but will do from now.

  9. Definitely not what I’d do with such a pretty saree but Sonam seems to wear it well. Don’t like the shoes though. Make-up and hair…love.

  10. This is a very common drape among some communities in South India. I like this. I would wear it but not with that blouse.

I’m all for experimentation with the sari (and the one she wore at Cannes was brilliant) but this is just ridiculous

  14. Sonam Kapoor should seriously endorse Fevicol. She blatantly copy pastes runaway looks, where is her own or her stylist’s imagination???? Besides, this looks ridiculous.

  15. Its hideous ..I love saree as a garment and unlike a lot of girls my age, i try to wear it work atleast once a week, even when i am abroad. Having said that ,we need to penalise such outrageous avatars of Saree..why why Anavila ? And has Sonam kept her own style sense back at home? I mean how can she not have a say in what she should wear !!…I may be in a minority to say this ..but a fashionista needs to have her individuality …no point being dolled up in hideous outfits !! Good make up and hair can do only so much πŸ™

  16. I think its rather fun actually – there is so much you can do with a saree. Sure its not something that’ll be the next big trend (boy I hope not). You wouldn’t wear that in real life but Sonam never bores she seems to always be having fun. I reckon Hindi movie events were so boring because she appeared. I like it!

  17. What on earth is this ghastly monstrosity?! There is no need to tamper with the saree – it is already perfect. I like that Sonam mixes up her looks and gives us Indian outfits but this….girl bye bye.
