Sari Style

Ms. Rahman was the chief guest at a film preservation workshop hosted in Bhubaneshwar and was seen wearing an reddish toned Sambalpuri ikat sari from the state paired with a matching blouse and a double strand pearl necklace. Sublime!

Am, of course, very biased because of my love for Ms. Rahman and because she is wearing a weave from my State. Time to re-wear my red version of this.

  1. Sheer class beauty and elegance!
To top it off, she is one of India’s finest emoting talent.
Hope the bra blouse wearing fashionistas will see these pictures

  2. Love a handloom sighting unconditionally but I do wish the lower pleats were a bit neater. Waheedaji looks as beautiful as ever -i love how her smile hasn’t changed all the years we’ve known her.

  3. I have always wondered why Odisha looms never caught the mainstream fancy like other more accessible looms did. They are far more expensive than most other looms sure. I also wonder if it’s because here is a certain austere restraint to them that mostly evokes power more than delicate femininity. Maybe that is why Mrs. Indira Gandhi and her descendants have been such staunch brand ambassadors for it.

It’s ubiquitous in the power corridors of the country and the preferred choice of corporate power dressing… wonder if all it needs is some good old fashioned Bollywood PR lol.

    • No, please, no!
Bollywood dejhainers will buy in bulk from some weaver at cut-rates, stick on some garish lace borders, or plaster it with sequins, tack on their own label, and call it their own.

      • So true with the chamak challo lace borders! My loom loving heart will break into pieces the day I see a “Manish Malhotra Sachipar”.. even sounds comical and absurd Lol

  4. Ah! at long last an Odisha loom sighting! So rare in these bourgeoise pages (sorry P&P no offence to you, just an observation on the people who feature here)… I have unequivocal faith in a person’s sense of style if they choose Odisha looms. I feel such bottomless affection for Odisha’s palete cleansing cuisine, her esoteric music and dance, the extravagant textiles. Everything there just reeks of expensive taste. Cheers Payal. Wonderful state, very philosophical eccentric people!
