In Gucci

Alia attended the BAFTAs on Sunday evening wearing a custom silver sequined Gucci gown and white fur stole. I get referencing the 70s era outfit but failing to see what’s the Gucci detail in here.

Alia looked nice nevertheless but I wouldn’t consider this a standout.

  1. Yep, definitely nothing unique or original BUT she looks the best she’s looked in a long while. Make up is gorg as is the hair. She’s like a stylish glam kitten from the 70s

  2. I thought she looked rather nice. The hair’s great (no fake extensions, phew), the make-up’s spot on, the dress actually looks like it was made for her and she herself is in great shape. I’ll take it any day over the Cannes saree-not-saree outing, for instance.

    • That’s an incredibly racist statement. Just a question, do her 3/4 non Caucasian genes make her suited to Indian clothes? Time for all of us to get genetic tests to figure out what we can and cannot wear?

        • It is absolutely racist. Once you claim that she can pull off a certain look because she is partly Caucasian it becomes about race.

I’m sorry, but I did not bring up cultural appropriation, and don’t see the relevance here.

          PS: I’m pretty calm!

      • Apologies – i was more alluding to body types (somatotypes—ectomorph, mesomorph, endomorph etc) and those blessed with less curves can pull off some of these outfits with ease. many many years ago Aishwariya wore something similar at Cannes- albeit it was not a well constructed garment, but it also did not sit well on her more curvy body as much as it does on Alia. This outfit looks very elegant on Alia

        • shm – good point. I often feel we (south indian women) have physical framework not suited for some of these outfits. short legs, broad shoulders, wider hips etc. I get your point and you are spot on about Alia. Nothing racist about it, great observation instead.

        • Could that be because Aishwarya’s outfit was just badly constructed?

Mind you, the va va voom gold Cavalli dress that Aishwarya wore at Cannes with red lips? That was first worn by kristin chenoweth (a white American woman, as far as I can tell) and nobody can remember it. Sometimes things are about personality and fit. It is an established theory in current science that ‘genes depend on race’ is pseudoscience.

And no amount of race card can help you get out of that.

  3. Underwhelming look. Alia used to have a spark about her , even in simple stuff… That’s missing. She doesn’t look as confident as she is in Indian events somehow.
She should have picked a more striking outfit. Silver seems dull on her . And that fur drape is very dated.

  4. If the gown was gold instead of silver and the fur was a cognac brown instead of white- this look would have hit it out of the park!!! Her skintone is great for Gold tones!!

  5. I cannot get past the fake tan and the silly pout. I think she tries too hard esp for the camera. I her sweet smile along with her petite body will do the trick…that pout kills it for me.

  6. I can’t look past the fur stole. How do we condone the enslaving, torturing, electrocuting of intelligent, sentient beings in 2026?
The fashion has made big strides in adopting humane practices — fur is so dated.
Please please spend 10 seconds educating ourselves about what happens behind the scenes. It will sicken you to the pit of your stomachs.

  7. She looks good, but fur??? Really? In 2026. Does she and her styling team have no awareness about the cruelty that goes on with harvesting fur from animals? So disappointing.
