Lakme Fashion Week Spring 2010: Day Four

Paromita Bannerjee Spring 2010, Lakme Fashion Week

“Safed Rang” by Paromita Banerjee was a collection that though had some pieces in color, predominantly was one of neutrals like white and off-white with some color used intermittently mostly as an accent on these garments. It was hard to miss the leaf motif which was used across the collection in quite a varied manner but what really scored points with me were the handloom fabrics and the pairing of the ‘sheer’ with the ‘solids’ which made for some interesting textures. The angarkha kurta and the white dress with the beautiful vest absolutely stood out. A very wearable collection.

Swapnil’s collection had a lot of color and a lot of varied silhouettes, from edgy skirts, severe jackets to almost Grecian dresses, from evening-wear to more casual attire. It was an interesting mix alright! The organzas, satins and chiffons were draped to the T and certainly weren’t for any wallflowers. Though not particularly fond of the ombre striped gowns, the more edgier pieces (like the one with white stone and sequin work) did stand out for all the right reasons. We predict seeing a lot of this collection on the red carpet.

Vikram Phadnis Spring 2010, Lakme Fashion Week

Vikram Phadnis was among the designers who showed ‘Bridal Collections’ during the Lakme Fashion Week. It was a collection made of usual suspects when it comes to bridal trousseau… heavy zardozi work, crystals, ornate borders and intricate embroidery. For all the bright colors used and their eclectic pairing, it still seemed so dull. The terribly busy runway with the carpet while adding to the ambience, did absolutely nothing for the clothes. It only took away the shine from ’em. While we liked the saris and some of the lehengas, it wasn’t a collection that had us all excited. I still blame the runway… so damn distracting.

Vivek Kumar Spring 2010, Lakme Fashion Week

Lot of metallic accents, a neutral palette and some interesting silhouettes are what made up Vivek Kumar’s collection. The more abstract of the pieces were definitely arresting while some others were just humdrum. It seemed like the collection was split right down to the middle, one half was really inspired and the rest… well.

In Threes

We may not like these strapless Nishka Lulla dresses much but amongst the three we do have a slight predilection for Dia’s version. You?

Bag Spotting

Speaking strictly of bags considering the outfits aren’t much to write home about, we’ve got to say between the Gucci and the Valentino, we much prefer the Gucci. The Valentino Couture Braided Tote just doesn’t appeal to us much, give us a Maison or a Histoire any day!

P.S: She is carrying the Couture bag in patent leather but the pic below of the bag is of one in leather. Just to avoid any confusion. 😛

Bag Spotting

Neither fond of the bag nor the clutch, but especially dislike the bag. The way Ms Khan has worn it doesn’t help it’s cause much either.

In Anuj Sharma

The dress on Antara is from Anuj’s Fall 08 collection called ‘Eyelet It Be’. The collection was all about multi-functionality where each piece of square or rectangular fabric could be turned into varying lengths just by using the eyelets to hold the sides.

You may recall Anuj Sharma playing with the concept of ‘versatility/multi-functionality’ with his Spring 2010 collection titled ‘Button Masala’ as well.

Antara had a great start with the hair and the dress, wish she kept it edgy and hard… but she had to go and lose the plot with that clutch and those shoes. Especially those shoes. It’s a ‘Not Quite’ for us.
