WLIFW: Mandira Wirk

Metallic was the keyword at Mandira Wirk’s show! Greys, silver, gold and copper, most with a brushed sheen and metallic shimmer to them made up the color palette! A couple of pieces in ‘houndstooth’ made their way into the collection which I did like. The collection was very retro glamorous, a nod and a wink to playful eighties but thankfully without the padded-shoulder power suits!

WLIFW: Vikram Phadnis

The Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2008 opened with Vikram Phadnis’ collection. Blues, olives, peaches and pastels made up the color palette and ‘metallic’ continued to make its presence felt even into Fall.

The skirts and dresses were ruched and the volume came from tule! You couldn’t miss the opaque tights, a Fall staple as far as I am concerned and there was a lot of layering! Embellished garments go from Spring to Fall and like metallics, seem to be a trend thats going to stick for a while!

Wendell Rodricks’ Tranquility

I like Wendell Rodricks for his clean, simple lines, minimal, contemporary take on clothes. Famous for his whites and pastels and long favored by celebs like Malaika Arora, I was quite looking forward to his collection, ‘Tranquility’ that he recently showed in Delhi.

But he only left me disappointed. It was uninspired and boring. Neither was it a creative showcase for him, nor a commercial winner, instead it tread somewhere between safe and boring.

In fact, the only ‘tranquil’ part of it for me was when I visualized the moolah I just saved by not wanting to rush out to buy his clothes!

Manish Arora’s Technicolor World

Source

Manish Arora’s collection: An absolute riot of colors. Kitschy. Pop influenced. Over the top. Technicolor swatch card. Loud. Quirky-glam. But the verdict? Thats yours to make!

Day 5: Rohit Bal

Rohit Bal closed the fashion week this year and his collection called ‘Siyahi’ was truly fitting the finale.

The way the colors progressed during the show were really interesting, there were ecrus and whites, and shades of blues and greens. The cuts and designs ranged from flowy fabrics to origami-like folds to heavily puffed skirts to ultra structured jackets and sherwanis for men and women…

The design was varied and the collection had a bit of everything.
