Attending the Life Ball in Vienna, Aishwarya finally gave us a look that made us go ga-ga.

The amfAR gala this year will feature a tribute to Elizabeth Taylor with a gold themed fashion show. The show has been curated by Carine Roitfeld and also features designs by Tarun Tahiliani that will be auctioned away.
Going with the theme, Aishwarya wore a gold sari by the Indian designer for her appearance. I don’t mind the sari but the gold (sari) on gold (blouse) look wasn’t working. A darker shade on the blouse would’ve helped balance the look. As is, it just looked too gaudy.
Not a fan of the tight high updo either. It reminds me of her Ms. World pageant appearance. Hair down also would’ve softened this look.

After black and white, Aishwarya gave us quite the pop of color on the red carpet in a teal Gucci Première gown with hot pink lips. And that’s where the love for this look ended.
We know, we’ve been asking for an updo from Aish on the red carpet from day one but this isn’t what we were looking for. The sculptural do was too high for the look and looked weird. A softer lower bun and this look would’ve been a two thumbs up from us. Oh wait, make that a four thumbs.

For her appearance on day two on the red carpet, Aishwarya went the Indian route wearing a floor-length long anarkali by Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla.
I, for one, am rather torn by the look. While I love the white on her as it stands out on the red carpet, the floral pattern doesn’t work work me. Reminds me of a doily.
And the hair. Since she did choose to wear that dress, wish she went the whole hog and did something with it. The contrast and heaviness of hair was just too jarring.

Vidya isn’t the only one to sport Sabyasachi while in Cannes. To attend the Gala celebrating hundred years of Indian cinema, Aishwarya picked a Sabyasachi couture lehenga-sari. The Bollywood meets Baroque vibe of the lace and velvet sari with its gold work was rather interesting.
Sure it was blingy and it even reminded us of the whole Dolce and Gabbana vibe from Fall, but we did think Aishwarya channeling her inner baroque princess in the sari made for an interesting change. Of what we see, we like. Once we see more, it may (or may not) change.
