In Teuta Matoshi

At a promotional event for a laundy detergent brand, Sonam was seen in a floral embroidered dress from Teuta Matoshi and matching earrings. Did she look nice? She sure did.

But, if you consider the event which was focused about “sharing the load” (of housework), the look itself was so stepford wife-ish (or should we say #TradWife), it was hard to take it seriously. But, that’s me.

    • Now that you mention it, I think she was trying to channel her inner ‘washing powder Nirma ‘ girl from that 80s ad but in the “Ariel” logo shade.

As for this particular look for this particular event, she looks like a superstar diva trying to get her husband’s domestic help to share the load with the wife’s domestic help and not like an everyday woman trying to get her husband to #ShareTheLoad.

  1. She looks good and since when has event theme based appropriate dressing become a requirement? The only thing I dislike is chipkoo hair.

  2. It’s a nice dress. I wouldn’t read into it.
It is also kinda cool that the florals on her dress look very similar to the Ariel logo!

  3. I am not comfortable with the stereotype of the dressing with the kind of woman. It would have been nice if you had not added that statement about the relationship between her dress and the “sharing the load”. People at a home must share the load regardless of how anyone dresses. I am a nose stud wearing, traditional looking, feisty feminist, for instance!

    • Yes, it is the same as people thinking a sari clad, mogra in the hair woman must be a housewife. Didn’t expect this stereotyping from Payal, it is just a dress that she liked. She sure wasn’t channeling anything.

  4. Nothing can beat the old “share the load” advertisement with the father apologizing to his working married daughter. It’s on YouTube on a channel called “Flock of Broads”. While I couldn’t personally relate, having grown up in a household where both my parents shared domestic responsibilities, it will resonate with many.

On an aside, Beautiful dress, beautiful work! I thought it was Needle & Thread at first.

  5. Interesting analysis on the trad wife look – agree with Payal. Seems very prim, proper dolled up mom/wifey look which kinda sticks out and seems jarring against the messaging they’re going for. A more fuss-free casual yet stylish easy breezy look might’ve been a smarter styling choice. Having said that perhaps because the load is shared she has time to doll up HAHA

  6. The dress is lovely. I think she wanted the green from the dress to match the colours on the product. I don’t think that the dress evokes any kind of lack of feminism.

  7. Also pretty sure that this dress could never ever be washed in a machine. No shade on Sonam who looks great, but bad call by the advertising agency to allow this look to happen.
