In Jigyam

Sonam attended a wedding event wearing a lehenga from Jigyam made from a vintage benarasi rangkat sari. Now, while the lehenga was absolutely droolworthy, the fact that a vintage sari was cut up to make this outfit that for Ms. Kapoor is most definitely a one-time wear really breaks my heart. I hope she proves me wrong and wears this outfit a whole lot more cuz it sure deserves plenty of rewear. If not, she can pass it on to me! You know I love my rangkats uncut! 😛

  1. Her jewelry deserves some shout out too…..she is following her mother’s footsteps of collecting antique pieces….they say Sunita Kapoor has quite a collection….the lehenga was breathtakingly gorgeous and fabric has my whole heart. 10/10 for me.

  2. It’s beautiful no doubt but she’s drowning in all that fabric… it’s difficult to see the cut of the dress… like a little too much of a good thing.. love her jewelery tho… gorgeous!

    • Unlikely that outfit could have come from one sari. And a real vintage sari might not survive being cut up, they work well as draped fabric and even then they can be fragile at the borders/pallu – to cut it up and subject it to the stress of stitching and wearing – I’d be surprised if this was truly vintage.

  3. All these posts on traditional weaves is making me want to get into saree wearing in a big way – I loved how you paired your saree with the Rimzim Dadu!

Now if only I can get out of my body image issues and lack of traditional blouses (I live outside India)…

    • Same, I just saw her post as well! On the lack of traditional blouses, if it helps, see if you want to pair your sarees with crop tops (not crop t-shirts but literally tops of a cropped length or a standard well-fitted shirt). I tried this recently and it neatly doubled up as saree blouses and the pairing was a lot more fun (and cheaper) than what would have cost me to get stitched from a tailor.

  4. I absolutely agree with Payal. Cutting up a gorgeous vintage saree for one wear is not sustainability at all. Priyanka Chopra did the same too.

  7. Also, props for actually repurposing a classic and making it wearable. I’ll take that any day over admiring something while it sits in storage forever. Wishing for rewears and or passing on forward as well 🙂

    • It would have been wearable without repurposing too . Just saying ?
But I think it looks gorgeous both ways . But saree feels more versatile . You can experiment with the drape

  8. That Sonam whose clothes made us drool is back …. Even if momentarily. Maybe the saree was torn or something and converted to a lehengas… let just believe that 🙂
My wedding saree from almost 2 decade ago was an exquisite rangkat….. my father choose it and when I asked my mom about it she said ‘rainbow colour’. Years later I learned the name Rangkat. ….. and corrected my mom…
