Our Pet Fashion Peeve
Why do adults insist on wearing tattered denims? We’ve said it a zillion times before but for sake of posterity, let me reiterate… unless you are thirteen or are an Abercrombie model or work in construction… you are not supposed to wear torn denims. Not cool. Won’t ever be.

i dont agree. Torn or tattered denims look great on adults too when worn on the right figures and with the right shirts/ boots and accessories.
Yeah, I also think that torn jeans can look really good when worn right of course!
Not true. Tattered are for the older teens and young adults. 17-21 prolly. That would be high school plus Undergrad. Most popular ones including A&F, Hollister target those. I tend to agree with jo as well.
i think the same ! sonal is looking very hot in the picture
torn jeans can be worn by anyone ..thats so not true i think fashion is subjective you mite not feel its the right thing to wear but all leading stores around the world sell torn jeans that cater to all age groups
I agree with everyone, torn jeans can look good on anyone if worn nicely…as for Sonal, she has done lil too much of makeup… she looks better without it..
i agree with everyone tooo torn jeans can be worn by everyone if well cordinated
anyway sonal has really put too much make up
who is she?
I go with the blogger ‘Priyanka’ on this totally. Is anyone in Bollywood listening??
esp. not when you go for launches and events.
torn jeans don’t work when they look so obviously artificial. they make sense when the wearer could have worn them thru or torn them during a sport or something. in this pair, she can’t do much!
I agree, PnP. No self-respecting adult should wear torn jeans. The trend is so 80s!
first of all we all know u hv a cell phone twinky….so in evry pic stop showin it…also i think wen u launchin a calendar u dont dress up like dis especially wen the calendar has u in it…..:P
I can’t believe people are supporting torn jeans. Just because it’s a trend doesn’t mean you have to follow it. Since when was it okay to walk around looking like a homeless person? Had Sonal worn a nice pair of dark denims, she would’ve looked great and put together.
I’m an undergrad, and I have yet to see someone on campus wearing torn jeans.
she looks great….very well co ordinated
its crazy bt surprising to c ppl putting up so mch crap…most of them who dont have any Fashion Sense at all…like Zara…
i mean…c’mon ppl…get a life…stay stylish!
This girl is SO STUNNING! I’m serious. Love her hair. The torn jeans on girls just looks weird and unclassy to me.
on the contrary its a breath of fresh air to dress like this for a launch instead of the same boring trends that these celebs follow just because they are supposed to.
i think she’s only 21 ,so i guess she should be allowed to dress up like this. and she pulls it off well.
I don’t know her but the whole outfit including bag is kind of Ross or forever 21 ish, not that there is anything wrong with that but I wish they just make a more elegant choice when they go to those stores, being elegant and stylish doesn’t necessary means you have to spend a truck load of money
Remind me the last time torn jeans were elegant? Ewww, so with Priyanka on this one. torn jeans = no no. I’m an undergrad student and like ‘zara’ said I have yet to see that on campus (well I have… but on fashion-challenged folk). Does Abercrombie/Hollister even produce those anymore???
great legs, Fab body, stunning face. I like the jeans on her but she could have done with a more casual t- shirt .
@Zara & Nida. Not sure which part of the US you go to school. I am an Undergrad too and seen plenty.
@Nida: Yes, Abercrombie & Fitch /Hollisterhas it labeled *destroyed*. Abercrombie is for kids.
The one Sonal seems to be wearing looks nothing like an A&F, AE or Guess. This one’s cheap and ill fitting. Agree on that.
i quite like torn jeans on adults. and sonal looks nice here. when done properly, torn jeans can make one go from lukn homeless to very stylish!
HEY! Ross and Forever 21 do not belong in the same catagory!
I don’t like it on 13 year olds either, OR Abercrombie models (when did they start wearing clothes anyway?)- but then again MY fashion pet peeve IS Abercrombie (or people who wear their uncreative and generic clothes and think they are the epitome of fashion)
that and uggs (blech)
@ saya:
I go to UCLA, and I’m born and raised in Southern California. I definitely see the whole torn jeans look at malls and stuff, but I can’t remember the last time I saw someone on campus wearing them. But then again, there’s a good chance I saw a hideous pair and my memory just blocked it out 🙂
Torn jeans look terrible esp. at an event where people are supposed to be dressed up. My main problem with Sonal’s outfit is the color of the jeans. Darker wash would’ve looked a lot better. Oh yea, I don’t know why she’s carring her phone in her hand when she has that huge bag to put it in. Sonal — we know you own a cell phone, please put it away.
torn jeans witha polo and hair carelessly tied in a bun- yes – with atucked-in black full sleeve top and full makeup – no
Oh I’ve seen lots on my campus wearing tattered. I go to Berkeley. There gotta be a reason every leading brand has ’em selling. Still. This lady (whoever she is) looks wannabeish.
@Zara: You are just in denial. 😛
Why is she carrying tht bag? Her accessories are not coordinated with her outfit..
i dont mind torn jeans.. but its has to be worn right … sonal reminds me of jian khan.. but i knw its nothin abt looks..jst the style n alll ewww… both pretty ladies both styled so bad… and her face looks so much fairer
she looks good with those jeans; its a fashion on peaks in hollywood right now; you’ll find this in every store in US [next to not-torn jeans] 🙂
There’s no age limit for wearing torn jeans. This girl may not be looking good. May be because she is pairing everything formal with her torn jeans. Some chunky jewelry and bag will add some punch in her look.
Torn jeans should mostly be paired with either ‘rock-star’ feel accessories and clothes or super casual accessories and clothes.
