What is a “Manish Malhotra Kanjivaram”? Did he go sit in a loom in Kanjivaram and spin it? Love her look though. Soon BW elite designers would have invented sungudi, Korvai and aarani!!

No different from a Tarun Tahiliani or Anita Dongre one. They all source weaves and add hand embroidery work or some other work to the base sari.
Please add Gaurang and Sabya to the list.
Have to agree. Just cos the designers bling it up (and often times not in a nice way except in a dejiner label add$ way.) Calling it MM kanjivaram is a bit much. And completely disagree with the MM suffix

Not only that -this is such a copy of a ‘Sabyasachi Kanjivaram’ – Deepika wore the same saree a couple of years back – gold tissue with a stitched on border !
I guess it’s tissue saree season in Bollywood now. Everyone’s gonna wear tissue sarees this Diwali.

Are there no pleats? I can’t seem to find any.
The pallu is too long ( I think it’s how Sobhita wears it most of the time ) so there wasn’t much left for pleats . And with this materials , pleats don’t stay in place unless you pin them
this doesn’t look like a pattu or even silk — more like organza. kanjis are never this translucent…

This is not kanjeevaram silk or pattu silk. Needs to be identified correctly.
Manish Malhotra is in his emerald jewelry phase these days. Thus anyone who wears anything he makes wears emeralds whether it suits the general outfit or not. I have seen that so many times recently that I have simply given up on his jewelry. Yes emeralds are beautiful but they do not go with everything which is sadly something he does not realize or he is being simply plain lazy,
Looks like MM borrowed Rekha’s saree and added a border.
Nevertheless I am not carping. Saree is lovely and Sobhita exudes a classic Indian beauty.
PS: In the pre designer era too it wasnt just a Kanjeevaram. You would go to the famous saree shops.. And even if you bought direct certain villages and sellers would be known for their sarees. Same for expensive sarees in other parts of India.
