Sari Style

Wearing jamdani saris with the similar color motifs, Shweta and Rhea attended Durga Puja festivities. It was nice to see these weaves on them.

P.S. I can’t call them dhakai jamdanis just because yet again, a lot of jamdanis are incorrectly sold as such by vendors and a Dhakai Jamdani is one that is woven in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

    • On a closer look, I don’t think Rhea’s is a genuine Dhakai — those tassles are definitely not part of the aesthetic! But Shweta’s is. It’s an old design, probably belongs to her mum.

  1. Nice to see Shweta in a traditional Saree. A welcome change from the AJSK atrocities the Bachchan women usually choose. Just wish she had chosen a cream color blouse like the main color of the saree to showcase the border. Both women looked great.

  2. Thanks Payal for stating the fact that an authentic Dhakai Jamdani is one that is woven in Dhaka, Bangladesh ONLY. Most people think any jamdani can be called a jamdani based on the motif and color. But I’m glad you cleared that up! As a Bangladeshi, I’m very proud of our Jamdani heritage and love that it is so revered everywhere. Annoyed that there are knock offs being made and called the “real” thing, when it’s not!
