In Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla

Comment image 30

Day two of Cannes saw Sara wearing yet another Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla which was a play on a sari with the pallu worn around the hand.

I’ll give her a B for effort because waist up, she looked interesting but I am not sold on that skirt design.

Did you like?

  1. Now this is gimmicky.. it’s kinda bad. Top is like beach vacation wear, skirt is like runway. She really needs to calm down her expressions especially facial.

  2. Did they not have enough space for makeup and accessories and had to wear the same color of clothing to why by ? I cannot imagine why one would wear same color 2 days in a row. And that too for such a terrible design. What are those beads ?

  3. I feel sorry for her. Her first appearance and this is what her team manages to pull up?
She is not mature enough to be at an event like Cannes. It’s OK, though her team and memtor must prepare her.
She looks lost. She has no energy. She has no excitement.

Forget the clothes. Random and boring as hell.

  4. more often than not, its her silly expressions which are a bigger put off than her silly clothes. She has absolutely no idea how to pose for the cameras without that deer in headlights expressions and usual neck tilt. She has no idea how to carry an outfit, which is very evident in most of her outings (except those salwar suits clicked outside her home). Its just sad, that before developing any sense of individuality, these kids are worshipped as ‘stars’. And as someone said earlier, its like Sara and other star kids are just groomed to be brand ambassadors more than actors.

Does anyone know why she is attending Cannes this year in the first place?

    • Well said! I’m imagining people jostling for space (with those unnecessarily dramatic train-y outfits) for 10 mins of red carpet attention; at the very least they can be dressed aesthetically? Saw Sara’s interview, she was unable to talk intelligently or articulate anything about the labor-intensive and much abundant embroidery on her ‘hand crafted Indian dress’ They are being put into spotlight too soon without any knowledge of the craft.

    • well said, such lack of poise and grace even when you have the epitome of style, poise and grace, the Sharmila Thakur as your grandmom …..what pity.

    • You’re so right, it’s the case with most star kids post alia. All the directors, designers and the maximum bw clout wants to cash on their star legacy before letting them grow as actors. I mean sara for this case is barely 4 years into bw and she’s endorsing a decades old brand at something as iconic as cannes. That’s an unfair platform to push her to, she’s obviously excited but not yet prepared individually.

  5. The skirt length is soo off, the front floor pooling, the visible stitch, what a mess! The drape is terrible.. I probably tried this drape with mom’s saree when I was 12.. that’s how bad it is.. it obviously makes her hips look wide, which they are not! Then for those pearl malas…uurgh.. with the match-y blouse…eeks. Should have saved them for an Ambani event, not good for Cannes red carpet dear! Sara, you go girl, you do your thing and leave these awful Abu-Jani outfits and styling for the Bachchan’s to consume and gloat.

  6. First Alia as a Gucci ambassador, now Sara at Cannes. These girls who have no business being in high fashion events are diluting international exposure for Indian grown talent for me. It doesn’t feel earned and we end up being served with such mediocrity in fashion. Something is seriously amiss in this generation of manipulated stars and stardom. The glee of seeing a PC, Deepika, Kangana or Kareena who just ooze pomp, glamour, personality, uniqueness – we are robbed and left poor.

    • You couldn’t have said it better! This current herd of new stars look so unprepared and novice to be at such events. No sense of confidence, ease and it shows. Maybe, because they get it all so easy as compared to others.

    • And that’s how she is a person – for now. It’s OK. She might change. But but but, the so called highly profiled team these kids have, have the responsibility to help them shift to the next level. Help, guide and mentor them step by step. From outfit, to posing to communication skills to being comfortable in the uncomfortable. A group of grown ups is behinde this appearance and presentation of her. Her team reminds me of the ministers and weavers from The Emperor’s New Clothes fairy tale.

      • Now that’s where it’s all wrong! The best teacher amid your own experiences, failures and courage. A team will train you but not grow for you. Aishwarya did Cannes after years of being in bw and modelling , so did Deepika, Sonam and so.

  7. I don’t think the saree is worthy of a Cannes appearance. If the same fabric had been stitched into a gown; it would have been acceptable. I must say though Sara’s hair and makeup are perfect.

  8. Not an impressive outing .. she is part of India Pavilion. She is young, let her learn with time. Even Aish was ridiculed for her neeta lulla outfits in her early appearances.

    • Ash’s outfit could have been ridiculed but Ash owns her looks. I don’t think she is uncomfortable and her choices seems like her own instead of a stylist putting them for her. That’s where the difference stems in. She is not lost in the headlights , stupefied at the media attention ever. Anyhow , I don’t think it’s fair to compare one with another but at times there is just angst as to how entitled these young boys and girls are – here just because of a name /surname because clearly do not have a personality of their own and then end up becoming clones of each other .

  9. First up this is not a good outfit though it does have a bit of a 60s Mumtaz vibe.

Second the comments for certain actresses are really nasty. This is her first appearance at Cannes. Actresses screaming about nepotism also had not so great Cannes outings. Almost every actress on first appearance is self concious and stiff. Heck when keyboard critics first go abroad for studies or work it takes awhile to figure out how locals dress. Why the need to shock and awe firangs with our fashion. This is not any better or worse than any white girl outings, get rid of the cultural cringe.

Is AJSK usually terrible? I would say yes. Does Bollywood promote them too much? Yes. But why would you comment on her silly, clueless expressions etc? ALL red carpet poses and expressions are silly but young and old actresses have to comply. These are all subjective and I am sorry to say but women commenting like this is the reason women have so many appearance related issues.

    • When you are on global stage , you should be prepared. I don’t think this is women hating women like you’ve mentioned. There are standards /expectations from every profession. For a banker , it’s expected that you know your modelling charts in 5 years of experience at least. Similarly, for an actor , it is expected that you know how to act normal in front of the screen/cameras after 5 years. It’s like the first of the expectations one could have from an actor. We are the audience to such terrible underprepared and awkward poses and we are okay to criticise it.

  10. These modified saree draping versions need to stop. It doesn’t look good on anyone, even with well-toned bodies. Sara is trying to bring fierce to this look, but her expression is falling flat. Sara, please pick a leaf from your elegant and classy grandma’s style book and then there won’t be stopping you.

  11. This would have looked better as gown than the mumtaz look from the 60’s. Again no imagination or effort out in by the designers . Honestly she needs a whole new styling team !

  12. Sara does not know how to pose. She looks funny. Go with a vibe that suits you. Instead of doing cliche poses and expressions. Can always Practice before you hit the carpet!

  13. I miss the days of pagent winners as Bollywood actress. They were groomed so well and had presence, the current lot of them has zero personality and it’s painful to watch them represent global / Indian brands .

  14. Its a strong statement but she doesn’t belong there! I get being nervous on international stage but I feel like she didn’t put in any effort to be prepared for this event. Someone got her on the list and she showed up. In one of her interviews she states – “I think this is a saree”. Are you kidding me? You don’t know what you are wearing?

  15. First off, this is a super star kid who has lived her entire life among reigning stars, right down to her grandmother. She has lived and studied abroad for years. She has years of bollywood exposure and life exposure. But it was sad to see her fumbling to talk about stuff. It is not her age nor her experience.

It is the talent and oomph that counts. She lacks both. Adding to it is her posing, expressions, and choice of clothing.

I have never liked an outfit draping by Dolly Jain. There is also that!

She made a big mistake of shying away from colour and classic clean lines.

Not liking this outfit one bit.
