Sanya and Alaya were seen in Manish Malhotra’s sequin saris and while the saris were nice, Sanya’s blouse design and Alaya’s forced drape to show off her blouse that wasn’t even that interesting made me not like their outings as much.

  1. I’m not sure in which universe Alaya’s drape would pass off as acceptable. Forget about seeming vulgar & inelegant, it doesn’t even look fashionable or stylish. Looks plain silly. Honestly, this is just laughable.

    • It falls in the category of “ women should be allowed to be crass and vulgar, they are expressing their fashion and femininity”

  2. The way one drapes should be a qualification of whether it should be called a saree or not- not the length of the fabric. As such this shiny yellow fabric has not been showcased well.

  3. I see some of these outfits, and I wonder, really?? This, to me, is an utter lack of style and sophistication. In an attempt to give the saree a new twist (literally), they end up with all manner of styles that are forced and meaningless.

If you look at any of the traditional ways the saree is worn (nine-yard, six-yard, Nivi drape, Coorg-style, etc.), there is a meaning to the drape. It is practical, graceful… and it allows the wearer to get on with their life WITHOUT having to manage extra fabric.

Here, we see all these attempts to make the saree hip and fashionable that land wrong, nearly every time… all in the name of innovation and fashion. This isn’t to say that experimenting with tradition is a bad idea but you gotta take a look at the end result before you step out… I mean, really, is this fun? Does it look cool? Hmm, I think not.

  4. As I said- these posts just up my and my wardrobe’s self esteem.
At this point I can even find enough sympathy is me to allow them to borrow some of mine and salvage their pathetic outings.

  5. Wow, what is the point of pallu. If she wanted to show both the boobs, then could have gone for Ramayana/ Mahabharata serial type drape. On a side note, why this sequin saree fascination? They are neither nice nor anything special.

  6. The thing is. Don’t wear a saree if you don’t want to wear a saree! Doing these pseudo badly draped looks is just insulting to the saree as a garment. And there are so many varieties of traditional drapes you can choose from too if you want to stand out !
