LFW Winter/Festive 2012: Komal Sood

Twilight Seduction was Komal Sood’s collection that presented sequin-heavy dresses and gowns with purple being the dominant color. Some of the designs felt like ones we’ve seen before. We’d be remiss if we didn’t point out the last gown (2nd pic, far right). It just didn’t belong.

LFW Winter/Festive 2012: Pernia Qureshi

Pernia’s show probably was the most anticipated show right after the Gen Next Show. The stylist turned designer presented a Western collection mostly with its only Indian piece coming in the form of a sari on showstopper Amy Jackson. Dropped waist shifts, knee-length beaded dresses and separates marked a collection reminiscent of the 20s.

Some of the looks felt very basic if you ignored the styling. Some pieces also had an Atsu influence (she is a muse to the designer after all). Having said that, we also think the simple collection is just what we need to see on the stars and we’re sure to see it soon, if not on Pernia herself first. After all, she is her best ambassador.

LFW Winter/Festive 2012: Surendri by Yogesh Chaudhary

I don’t know about you young’uns out there but if like me, you are a child of the Eighties then you are familiar with pac-man. A big, big part of pop culture. By virtue of nostalgia alone, am inclined to love this collection with it’s pac-man print. Luckily, that’s not all I had to go on.

The print on print, (appropriate) bursts of color and separates heavy collection never felt cheesy, tired or overdone. And the pac-man maheshwari saris with gota border, words I never thought I’d use in a single sentence were fantastic; love the desi spin.

Now, for the important question… Where and when can we get our stubby lil’ paws on this collection?

Doing Black

Day one saw these ladies do black with Lisa in a Vizyon dress with McQueen booties, Neetu in what we think was a BCBG gown and Sayali in a sparkly number. Got a favorite?

LFW Winter/Festive 2012: Gen Next Designers

The 2012 Winter Festive edition of Lakme Fashion Week kicked off with the Gen Next show that featured seven collections. We loved Sneha Arora and Aniket Satam right off the bat. Asa Kazingmei showcased Tngkhul tribe’s beautiful textiles via structured pieces.

We’ve got to admit, we’re a tad disappointed at the collections presented by the group designers, Aastha Sethi & Siddharth Arora and Mehak Pruthi, Kanika Seth & Ankit Sharma. With so many thinking hats in the picture, their collections didn’t have much to show for.

See all the collections inside.
