At the engagement party, the Ambani ladies and Shloka were all seen in Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla lehengas and while Isha looked glam, loved Shloka here just a wee bit more.

  1. Ambani weddings would be a great opportunity for them to showcase Indian handloom instead of these saas bahu monstrosities. I’ll see myself out now.

    • So true Myla. You and ‘Hi!’ below said it best.

The sad part is that this mom( as the leader of this event) and the designers don’t seem to even care!

The contrast in taste and appropriateness to the recent royal wedding is baffling!

      • True. Compare this to the royal wedding where the bride could have worn anything under the sun but she chose something so simple and understated. Same for the sister in law – Kate Middleton wore a simple dress she had worn on at least two other occasions to ensure she doesn’t overshine the bride. Here we have everyone from the immediate family to the Bollywood brigade behaving like it’s their own wedding. It’s an absolute tackfest.

    • LOL, I said the same thing and P&P didn’t post my comment.
After a point, so much showcasing starts to look very crass – both literally (in terms of clothes and bling) and figuratively. When the world is riddled with problems, here come the Indian billionaires who clearly intend to spend a billion on the wedding itself. The absurdity of having pre-pre-pre engagement functions with the same folks (read bollywood) and politicians baffles me. What do they even do at the occasion when it is for the same event? (engagement?)
Now imagine if only they had fed the poor, built homes, or made a new school in the bride-to-be’s name…If only..
Even if we consider this is a fashion blog, none of the outfits even look worth imitating. I cannot imagine anyone I know dressing like this, even if their trousseau budget was a million dollars!

  2. Shloka looks very relatable for somebody who comes from so much wealth. She looks very overwhelmed with all the zazz around here.

  3. Uffff ..so much unnecessary bling. From everyone.
Here… seriously… which one is the bride? At the wedding how will she shine when everyone else including the saas thinks its their own wedding!!

  4. Both mother and daughter managed to shove aside the poor bride-to-be, just to showcase their blingy clothes and jewellery … feel so bad for shloka. If this is how immediate family behaves, what does one expect from the Bollywood brigade?!

  5. Shloka looks beautiful, though I wish she had worn something more traditional and ethnic…I guess the Ambanis got too busy with the preparations to think about what they will wear.

  6. I knew it…the bride was going to be outblinged. Dazzling, and not necessarily in a good way. However it’s a wedding, so we shouldn’t be surprised. I hope we see more traditional weaves going forward.

    • And yet we have only reached the engagement. The value of the jewelry and clothes combined on display so far would be the GDP of a small nation!!
Wonder what’s in store for the wedding, more tacky and bling stuff ?
Am hoping for some traditional weaves going forward too. We can only hope!

      • Ha Ha..you’re so right. I’ve seen Nita Ambani in some gorgeous bandani sarees and traditional wear before; she has a decent dress sense and will probably wear some traditional weaves. One hopes of course, fingers crossed. Considering there are two Ambani kids about to get married it’ll be quite the event. Just as long as it’s not an AJSK fest.

  7. HOW MANY COSTUME CHANGES DID EACH ONE OF THEM HAVE? Also, how many engagement parties for “A” engagement. Why a pre-engagement for something that took place few months back. Sorry to say this but this looks like someone didnt have much to do so took up a non-stop engagement celebrations as her latest “hobby”. I understand, its their money and they can chose what the heck they wish to do… but the static guest list of “movie stars” and IPL cricketers makes me wonder Mrs Ambani pulls this off to just stay in the limelight.

I have new found respect for the Tatas, Birlas and the Murthys. I am so glad the latter didnt put the rest of India into feeling ashamed about their bank balances when their kids got married in very simple ceremonies. Heck I am even proud of Sonam ki Shaadi now. As the others have said it.. Amabanis ..Money you have..Class none of it! Tch Tch!

  8. Monstrosity is the word that comes to mind looking at the mother and daughter. Shloka on the other hand, looks sweet and quite unaffected. I would’ve expected more sophistication from the Ambanis. As it stands, it looks like everyone is trying to beat each other when it comes to bling and gaudiness.

  11. The Ambani ladies look like they went on a shopping spree to one of the clothing stores in Delhi and employed a local tailor to get them ready. Nothing designer about it, just blingy all over. Wish they would look in o the Kanchis, Patolas, Bandhinis, Kotas, Benarasi, Pochampallys and the myriad of Indian handloom and wear it without designer twist to it.

  12. I’m surprised to see that a family so wealthy is showing off their wealth like its new money. They should keep it small, classy, non-filmy and that would be a great way to set an example. Can’t believe there’s a mehendi before an engagement. I wonder what they’ll do at the wedding. Sure the clothes and jewellery could have been expensive but would have been great if they were also somehow exclusive vintage / restored handlooms – not commonly seen on movie stars everywhere.

    • It is new money, so it’s being flaunted I guess. But then again, the Murthys were responsible even though theirs is new money as well.

Coming to the clothes, Shloka looks nice and fares better as her clothes and accessories are less gaudy than the others. Was the party theme “bling and floral”?

  15. AJSK – Sincere request to you, you have got the India’s richest as your forever faithful clients, please bring India’s richest textiles and handloom now in your work as these wealthiest will follow you blindly, but atleast it will serve a big purpose of reviving India’s art… PLEASE !!
High time for you to realize that these cheap blingy costumes that you “manufacture” are eye sores.. waste of your talent and the power that you have with these clients as your guinea pigs.

  19. The Amabani women have jumed at the opportunity just to showcase their blingy clothes and jewellery .Whtever assembly line blingy was lying in their closets will be taken out now and they will keep having pre and post parties till they run out of them. By that time it will be time to statt all over again for Isha’s shaadi. Seriously, dont they get bored or tired dressing up all the time and handing out with the same bunch of people?
I also want to know what secret hold do AKSK and MM have on the bollywood folks that regardless of how tacky the clothes they churn out, they remain faithful to them?
Isha seems to be metamorphosing. Poor Shloka seems overwhelmed and trying to keep up. Ma Ambani is revelling at the chance to outshine them all.

  21. Agree it’s blingy, but it’s a welcome break from Sabyasachi OTT lehengas. I like Sabyasachi but it has been so monotonous with all brides wearing that.

  22. Such a crass and gauche display of lucre. Guests only from the worlds of film and sports. What on earth do they talk about, party after party? What were the cultural markers at this event, or has Bollywood become the only one, going by all the unknown starlets who attended? Classicism has no place in the nouveau uber riche milieu, it’s grab or be damned, the strains of the shehnai drowned by the clatter of those plastic sequins. The plunder of wealth from the 90% on full, shameless display here… Was sensitivity the forte only of the old socialist elite, where talk of money was and still is declasse, not among these who stalk the new corridors of power?

    • Sensitivity was never the forte of the socialists. Nor were they “elite” in any sense of the term. Who are you kidding?!
Not to say that the Ambanis has good taste. Their lack of good taste and sense is quite evident here.
