In Anamika Khanna
Sonam attended a brunch held by Loreal at Olive in a red Anamika Khanna outfit from the designer’s Fall 2009 collection. She paired her outfit with a cream clutch and cream python sandals.
As much as I love Anamika Khanna, this outfit seems so Princess Jasmine(y) to me. That is way too much red for a day event.
You can check out more pictures of her here.

hate to say this about anamika khanna and sonam kapoor but – yuck
Sonam looks pretty even in that ugly dress. Her shoes are too small and the red toenail polish does not go with this princess look.
I disagree – I think she’s pulling that red dress off really well. Yeah it might be slightly too bright for a day event, but if a young fashionista like Sonam won’t wear red, who will? 🙂
Oh, my! She looks so cute. I may be saying this over and over again about Sonam. But I can’t help it. Who wouldn’t want to look like that in all dresses?
Not lovin’ it (love Sonam though)…Very Edison’ish!
The bottom part spoils the whole look. It could have been a short fitted black skirt for damage control. Why those sandals, sonam?
Did Juliet meet Jasmine on the beach someplace?
Major fashion faux pas for one of my favs- sonam.
She looks gorgeous, love the whole look. I think its rather ideal for brunch, she tones it down with minimal accessorize. Perfect look..
dont love the look (the sandals are esp bad)
but i have to give it to sonam…she makes it sort of look ok
with anyone else it may have been a wtheyyy
okay, the other day I said Sonam atleast one wtheyyy…
Well what do you know! What a ugly dress. Certainly not a WTheyyy but its still very bad. And for ONCE Sonam’s makeup and hair ain’t all that….
Apart from those shoes, I love her look. Her face is gorgeous and she carries this Jasminey look quite well. I think wearing orange (I don’t think it is red) is fine for the day.
@Carol: I think her nails are bare.
okay, i’m sorry, but this outfit looks really silly. really.
the dress could’ve been okay if it weren’t for her hair and shoes. she looks like a birthday girl….who just turned six.
sorry guys, i know love is blind, but let’s at least try to be rational! i can’t see people looking at someone dressed like that and taking them seriously.
Oh my gosh – it looks as though she is wearing a prom dress. Horrible.
Lol. Insane. My neighbourhood can make an outfit with better structure. And Sonam Kapoor looks real crappy ‘for a change’ with that funny hairstyle. Guess her stylist must be on vacatiion
neighbourhood darzi I mean
bad hair-check
ugly dress-check
wrong choice of footwear-check
I love the sandals…not with this dress…but I’d love to own them if they are what I think they are.
The hair is tres weird
She looks stunning! Only Sonam can pull this off…I love how Anamika considers her a muse, but Sona chooses to wear her outfits! Now thats a great muse!
she looks beautiful-speaking purely based on her face. The rest is miserable. just because she wears it doesnt make it fashionable.im sorry but that sad excuse for an outfit and miserable hairstyle do absolutely nothing for such a pretty girl. shame really.
like the runway version – shade of red, cap sleeves, hair – better, but Sonam looks OK in what would be a disaster on someone else
what an ugly outfit.. and no way sonam is pulling off…NO WAY
I love her hair, but that dress just looks all sorts of weird.
I agree.. too much for a day event. I think this whole look for a night event would’ve looked stunning!
I acutally like this dress :/ It’s unusual and interesting
what I don’t like is how he’s worn it (those SHOES D:) and the hair is cute…but paired with the dress makes her look like she’s dressing up as a fairy
and the makeup is ugly
not a good look for the day…or the event
p.s. the model is TOTALLY cute 😀
I love her hair
Absolutely hideous prom outfit, bad hair and shoes..yeowww. not even sonam can make this work !!!!
one thing ive noticed is no matter how bad her appearances are, the post is never labelled as “WTHeyyy” of “On the fence”!!! they are always labelled as “in anamika kahnnas” or “in sabyasachis”… lollll
Anamika Khanna’s design is better than it was when she collaborated with someone else. Keep it up! If you go through the archives, you will find celebs wearing evening gowns to a magazine launch or a product launch; maybe that’s what they wear?! I prefer bright colours for a daytime.
Coming back to this look, the sandles look bad with the dress, the hair looks like it has some rice grains on it (maybe it looks different in a magnified image), the dress is not bad, the make up is good and she looks fine, super fine.
I love the fairytale-princess hair. The dress, not so much.
Shoes are really ugly. But she looks pretty.
just realized, she does not have a waist
full marks for her for trying, yes the dress is a bit much…but you know what she looks good.
The dress is not at all great, though the one on the runway looks nice ,, But, am i the only one who is finding Sonam very pretty, especially in the second pic on right??
not liking anything here ….sandals are nice , but for another outfit …with this length of gown heels are more appropriate ..also dress is pretty bad at shoulders …..I like the fact that she changes her hair style often , but this one is not working here ….so many thinngs wrong …but sonam still manage to look sweet ….
the dress is really experimental….but guys look at sonam….gawwwwd she’s a DIVAAA!!! cant wait for cannes! and please all of you…imagine any other actress carrying off that look. just imagine? i don’t think so!!
Its weird – like a cross between a day dress and an evening dress. Not quite here, not quite there. Simple black heels and black clutch would have helped. The length of the dress is awkward too..
my god….sonam is soooo beautiful. and i agree nita. these people are getting too critical of her and her dress. personally speaking she’s the most beautiful bollywood actress i have ever seen….and believe me ive seen them all. LOVE YOU SONAA…u rock!
Super ugly dress and what’s wrong with her hair..
She looks like a little kid in this outfit. I’m not liking it one bit!
A Fan’s beautiful prayer:
youre an epitome of beauty. you’re elegance personified. the most precious thing in the world. the last of your kinds was princess diana…the people’s princess. now you shall carry the legacy forward. i hope our beautiful princess gets whatever she desires in life as our blessings shall always dwell upon her. Today we join our hands and pray to god, to give you the grace of greater success in the work you do. May he be always there to watch over you and govern your actions, to lead you to your best and to make your life a useful one.
Love,
Nita
Hey Payal where are her sandals from? I like! Do they come in any other colors????
Okay so I have a fashion unrelated question? THis place Olive, it’s in Bangalore and Delhi too right? Well I’ve been to the one in Bangalore when I visited and I loved the food, ambiance and the prices weren’t too bad either… never been to the Bombay one, but how come all the celebs are always there? Will it be crawling with celebrities if I go there? And is it therefore hard to get into and wayyy expensive?????
horrible dress. sonam still has such a striking and gorgeous face whatever she wears. and i like her relaxed body language.
omg!!! y r ppl defending her??? this is u just plain grosssss!!! everthing….top to toe!!! jus luk at her feet, they are falling out of her sandles!!! yuckkk
love the way she is looking . god! people whats wrong with u , she is such a DIVA . love her hair its so young and fresh . love her minimalistic makeup its fresh and pretty .
and why should Sonam not be all princessy at this event? Isn’t she their ‘Princess’ Bee right now? (Queen Bee for Loreal = Ash)
She’s their front face, so I think she can dress like royalty. (but there is no excuse for those trashy shoes) 🙂
Hmm.. She does look like a kid playing dress up..
does she look like a younger version of anne hathaway in teh second picture?
but don’t like the dress at all.
awful
Well she is all that when professional hair stylists, make up artists and a personal stylist are involved, otherwise homegirl is capable of pretty c r a p p y outfits when left on her won. I still remember her totally unflattering choices when she was new in the industry.
At least her face looks very cute. This whole outfit is just wrong, from top to to the shoes. I cannot imagine a single occasion where it would be ok to wear that. The only saving grace is her face.
P.S., this dress reminds me of the early 90’s hindi movie fashion. Those horrible puffy sleeve dresses seen on Juhi Chawala, Pooja Bhatt etc. Infact I think this would fit right in the movie ‘Dil hai ki manta nahi’ or may be the godawful ‘Daulat ki Jung’ movie.
her hair did not look that bad though !
Those flats make her look stunted..And the gown looks like a really bad prom dress.
Also are “Jass” and ‘nita” the same person….cuz Jass posted a prayer and it was signed as Nita!!
Didn’t you say something about not letting people write the same thing again and again to prove their point?
@ Pri. No, it’s not hard to get into. There’s no entry. It’s nicer for lunch for brunch though, but that’s just my opinion. Delhi pone has shifted locations now, now in Diplomatic Enclave. Not expensive, cheaper than a dinner at Hyatt probably.
and really, the comments out here are getting so juvenile. I knew people live vicariously through celebrities, now I can see it.
Were they trying to copy the model’s hairstyle? Cuz if they were, they failed miserably! Her face looks good though.
The dress is horrible, and it looks even worse with those fugly sandals, but this girl seems to pull everything off!
@ sheeba.. good catch.. about jas/nita..lol
@ MK, funny you mention Daulat Ki Jung, I was just thinking of that movie yesterday (had a song stuck in my head) and even thought to myself that “I don’t think anyone else would even know about this movie”. crazy. but aamir khan was so cute!
sorry this is completely unrelated to the discussion at hand. @koel, are you from delhi?
Despite the danger of being labelled a sonam “fan”, I really like her…on second thoughts, I really like her waist up.
MK, lol, another classic of that time was Madhuri’s zindagi ek jua, and of course dil
Not nice at all.. I think this is one of those very rare times when Ill say Miss Kapoor misses the mark.
@ peach..yus yus. You too? Daulat ki jung..hahahaha
I agree with some of the comments here as to why this not in the WTH or On the fence section. Clearly, even the most fierce Sonam fans (& there are quite a few of them here) think this is godawful. If you have lost objectivity then please tell us so that we can take all your future views with a pinch of salt. Pls dont get me wrong but you have created an image of yourselves being fair & this is plain biased.
clueless/preeths,
The focal point of this post was to inform you that she was in Anamika Khanna which is why the title. As for how she looks, we pretty clearly stated that we didn’t like it. Is it WTheyy, we don’t think so. We put Twinkle in a WTHeyy when she deserved it and when we think Sonam deserves one, we’ll put her there too. As for being the ‘on the fence’, we use it when we have a poll and this wasn’t one. Hope that answers both your questions.
Lastly, we don’t ever say we have the last word on someone’s sense of fashion or style. Fashion is subjective: people have different tastes and we have readers from different age groups with different preferences. What we may like, you may not. That’s why there is a comment section, where everyone (irrespective of nationality, gender or age) can leave their opinion.
Are you honestly saying that if vidya balan or sonali kulkarni was in this you would not put this in WTHeyy section?! I am sorry but I find it really hard to believe.
I also have another gripe (i know its a non sonam related one but i am going to add it here anyway) I remember you guys givings us a speech about your comment policy and have to ask you – have you read the absolutely unwarranted comments on ash and abhi’s pic? everything from she looks like his mother to a double chin and everything in between!? I ask you – how were all these fashion related and what made you approve them?
Clueless,
Perhaps, because neither Sonali nor Vidya have the body or the height to carry it off and thats just how it is. Its not just about the outfit, its also what the ‘wearer’ brings or adds to it. What we may hate on one, we may like on another. Case in point, all those ‘Ditto’ posts… you can clearly see the wearer making all the difference to an identical outfit.
As for Ash post, when you have 70+ comments awaiting moderation, you tend to skim through most and there are always some that get approved because we didn’t read it properly and some that you think are harmless may sound bad to others. I think we reserve a right to apply moderation if we think things are getting out of hand. So to answer your question, are we guilty of being inconsistent. Sure. That is a big YES. And thanks for pointing it out.
People, Come on! This is SO not a wtheyy! And I am not a Sonam fan and would never be in a million years, so it’s my unbiased opinion. I like the dress, clutch and sandals separately, just put together it looks weird. The hair is just not working, I applaud her for being experimental though. (the category in which most of her colleagues fail miserably).
Am a big fan of Anamika Khanna but afraid this is not something I like… But Sonam still manages to carry it off well with her pretty face!
hoinestly I do not understand why some comments tend to be so personal – about the celebrity in question. I dont think whether or not you are a fan of someone’s acting skills should have anything to do with how you judge their fashion sense, in a particular post.. Ash post – comments abt her looking like mom were probably offensive – but that was a statement on those particular photos – not on her relationship with her husband as a whole. Just my two cents.. Fashion should and does cross all kinds of boundaries.. and its best kept that way.
well I guess i can only speak for myself – do not purport to know others minds..!;-)
lol@Bharati & PeachBellini
Yeah, Madhuri’s puffy dresses were the puffiest. Gawwd! I was probably 10 yrs old when ‘Dil Hai ki Manta Nahi’ came out and I used to watch that movie on VCP (not even a VCR) and swoon over Amir Khan and the ‘amazing’ dresses of Pooja Bhatt. Yikes! I have a picture of myself somewhere in a puffy dress which was made to order at the local durzi . Oh, the good, old, puffy sleeved days ….
LOL@melange on label, same here.
well said, PnP.
To a degree, it’s okay to have a debate with fellow visitors, but it’s not appropriate for us to criticize the administrators. it’s not like we’re paying them to do this, they do it for fun, and we’re just benefitting on the side. it’s their blog, their opinion. we’re here to voice ours, not police theirs.
Clueless, I see where you’re coming from. earlier, it really used to annoy me when I thought Payal or Priyanka was being biased in her judgement. but then i thought to myself, could I do what they’re doing and start a blog that has become so successful today? i think not. so don’t complain and just enjoy their work
I like the dress by itself, especially the color. do not care for the hair, and the shoes do not go with the dress. also the bag is too formal for this outfit. her straight hair, and silver flat sandals would have given the dress a toned down look. there is too much going on.
i think sonam will be really glad that people have the time to comment on her and discuss her so much, on a side not she looks lovely, the shoes could have diff.
@ PnP,
Apologies for having to continue this… please bear with me a bit longer. For the sake of argument –
(i am not a fan of any of the ladies in question)
Going by your “wearer” argument – Vidya & Sonali will never stand a chance of doing anything outstanding because of their far from perfect bodies. If they try something experimental – it will be called a disaster & if they wear what suits them best – it will boring. So its a lose lose situation for them isnt it? Whereas someone like Sonam will get away with just about anything simply because of her body type.. yes fashion is cruel – thanks for knocking that into me.
@ PeachBellni,
I appreciate the moderators for what they do, honestly I do. And I know this a purely a hobby. But when one sets out rules and makes a big fuss about them, then I as a regular visitor who’s been following their site since it first began and took their policies seriously – even if its about frivolous matters, have every right to take them up to task if there is a big gap between what they say and what they do.
As for the success of this site – I think its successful because PnP are knowledgeable and people are interested in and respect their their views. And this is why I think , in order to maintain the integrity of this blog, they need to be objective and more diligent.
phew… god this is long..
@ Clueless. Thank god atleast someone here is not following the herd and speaking their mind. It’s funny that Anushka Manchanda looking great has 20 comments and Sonam looking like crap has over 70.
@Clueless, thank you. Because someone has the so-called perfect body shape does not mean everything they wear looks good or is appropriate.
The administrators need to be objective and apply the rules even handedly.
There is some heated discussion going on here !
@ Clueless:Fashion is cruel but I don’t believe that you can’t dress fashionably according to your body type.I am 5 1″ and not really the skinniest but I do take risks with my clothes and spend some time on what would look good together. So while THIS particular outfit might not look good on Vidya and Sonali, there are so many ways in which they could dress fashionably.I know its probably unrelated to fashion but I do think celebs should make an effort to become fit and toned;not become anorexic and starve but work out and stuff. You are in the entertainment business after all,its your job to look good! That way,I do feel both Ash and Sush have let themselves go,no longer any toned figures.Sonam can do with some toning too but she still keeps my excitement levels high with regard to her fashion,I know I look forward to a fashion post of her’s each time on hhc.About comments,I feel they are ok as long as they talk about physical appearances.Sure if a dress makes someone look bulky,I think its okay to say it makes them look fat ;again that is just my opinion. But what honestly gets me are personal attacks or gossip mongering. On some of the Freida posts, there was stuff abt her ex and how she had no morals,I mean WT hell? Its her personal life and choice. But I think comments like Ash looks like Abhi’s mother are meant to imply she looks older or he looks younger but don’t reflect or comment on their personal relationship. In that regard,I agree with what Anita mentioned but again that is just my opinion.I do understand some comments might annoy someone else.
@ Clueless: fair enough.
@clueless:
i really honestly believe and have seen that no matter what your body type, you can always wear something that suits you and still look fashionable and beautiful. its all about KNOWING what to wear. and our bolly ladies are very far from that.
another thing is Payal and Priyanka do give credit where credit is due. eg: soha ali khan, amrita rao or even vidya balan in her white anarkali. we might or might not agree to it but thats only because we have different opinions on fashion.
However, i also agree to your last point where i have felt several times that the moderators get touchy about the comments posted her and then seem to approve almost everything for certain celebs. i have seen the trashiest comments in some aishwarya rai/lakshmi menon posts and have also seen them defending sonam in her posts or severely moderating in freida posts. at the end of the day, yes its their blog and they have every right to say/do what they want but i sincerely feel a fashion blog has to be totally unbiased :))
@Clueless – I respect the fact that you’ve chosen to speak out – But thought I should point out a few things:
1. I dont think pointint out someone’s double chin to refer to a bad photograph or an unflattering one is the same thing as calling someone “ugly person who cheats on her…” blah blah – One can be libel, the other’s not. Which probably drives PnP to approve/disapprove some posts
2. Ash and Sonam seem to generate a lot of controversy – its almost as if a lot of people feel they have to belong to one camp or the other. But really, i see no comparison. Ash is in her mid-thirties and probably at the end of a phase in her career. SOnam is just starting out, is young and in a different phase of life. She dresses VERY differently than anyone in tinsel town that I have ever seen – she knows she has the height and attitude to carry the clothes off and she does it!! Aishwarya is from a different “fashion” generation with a different personality – SHe can carry a sabyasachi sari like noone else for example.. I am not sure Sonam would look that elegant in the same thing..
3. Dont shoot the messenger!!! I defend PnP’s right to have favorites among celebrities.. As long as you get your say, why care???
very long post.. i forget where i started.. so will end here:-)
@Clueless
There are TONS of ways Sonali/Vidya could dress interesting, be experimental, dress according to their body type and be called fashionable other than THIS particular ensemble Sonam is wearing. It’s a pity that they don’t. And that’s called having style; that you manage to wear what looks good on your body type AND rock it! That is the precise difference between a wannabe person who follows fashion trends disregarding their body type and someone who is original and dress according to what looks good on them. When I go out and look around, majority of people DONOT have a height/face like Sonam, YET some of them manage to look even more stunning than her:)
Anyway, I didn’t wanna continue this but when I heard you say ‘Fashion is cruel’ I just had to out my 2 cents in, since I don’t agree with that.
Just a update PnP
i checked out other picures of hers from this event and the bottom of the gown is harem style. its not a dress
Nothing works for me in this outfit, not the dress itself (a princess dress for a day event, really???), not the hair, not the makeup, nor the shoes…. She even seems to be carrying herself awkwardly….
My first comment in the website, I was compelled to do that after seeing this horrible styling by Sonam – dress – bad – shoes even worse, together – yuck
