In Urvashi Kaur

Dia opted to wear a black shirt and brocade lehenga style skirt set from Urvashi Kaur to an event on Tuesday evening pairing it with a braid and silver jewellery. She looked nice in it.

I know some of you get irked by Ms. Mirza always sporting new outfits while talking sustainability but I think her stance is to promote labels that follow that ethos. Having said that though, would love to see Dia re-wear some pieces re-styled.

  1. Payal, u don’t have to justify on her behalf.
We all know the kind of hypocrisy bollywood celebs are into.

Actresses straight refuse even slightest hint of sugar, but themselves promote sugary drinks and chocolates to market them to kids.
Actors talk about fitness promote pan masala and liquor.

So Dia wearing new and expensive outfits while talking about ‘sustainability’ while being chauffeured in yearly changing luxury cars to go from living room to bedroom, taking private charters for quarterly foreign holidays and presenting animal delicacies for elite gatherings and parties… IS NOT SURPRISING!!!

  2. An activist who has the will, money, power and status that Dia has, would have worn actual sustainable pieces from the various heartlands across our country, promoted local looms and textiles, tried to revive an ancient or dying fabric art and NOT worn token designer labels every opportunity they get.
And by that means, Shabana ji or Rekha bharadwaj or Kangana are better at sustainability activism than whatever Dia has done so far.

  3. She is anyway all talk and zero ground work.

Attending save the planet events or making videos of reusing wrapping papers or taking ur own water bottle everywhere isn’t activism.
An average middle class indian is practising way more sustainability than you do, ms Mirza.

  4. Just reading those 2 lines, Payal, is quite triggering by itself.
We all know how really bothered celebs are about planet and what they practise vs preach.
    Don’t whitewash them.

  5. I don’t know what the noise is about. She doesn’t buy these designer outfits and stock them in her closet. She is just in them for a couple of hours and returns them after ‘modelling’ in them. They get sold and someone else gets to use them.

    • Her public posture of sustainability is at odds with a never to be worn again (by her) look, even if rented/borrowed. The designers lend it to stars, who wear it and return it…then as you say “they get sold” to suckers like us who pay good money to get the nice outfits, wear it once or twice to special events, and in this social media age retire it to gather dust in our closets. ‘cos *like the stars* we (even hoi polloi like us) too want something new for the next one. You see how stars/influencers help the industry perpetuate an unsustainable cycle? It is, as other commenters have pointed out, the same for colas and paan masala and fast food. Their health, their wallet stays intact. It is in our hands to question this bullshit and change our purchase and use patterns.

  6. Dia moves around in luxury cars, flies private planes while opposing metro construction and monorail. For her hundreds dying and getting trampled in crowded trains and buses isn’t a considerable or worthy reason for sustainability pravachans.
So Dia bring two faced with her cause isn’t surprising to me.

  7. Skirt and accessories are on point. But why the baggy, saggy, transparent dress shirt. The shirt with lehnga combo needs to left in the 90s where it belongs

  8. I dont know why people are getting triggered by Dia’s luxury lifestyle. She is rich and in show business. We are mere mortals who love our comfort and luxuries and holidays (as much our bank balance allows)

In her heart she may be doing her best, or may be thinking that her speaking about it may inspire others. I guess if every celebrity starts practicing even 1 sustainable cause that will still be better than nothing.

    • So you want people not question this , like fools ? We still are an educated society and atleast some of us want to call out the hypocrisy . And not set precedence for more influential celebrities to preach something but do the opposite because they’re getting paid . Environment and sustainability is the need of the hour and let it be taken more seriously . Let her pick a different cause she actually believes in and follows .

  9. Weird to see people worked about this. The Internet itself is not environmentally sustainable.
Why fixate on celebs who probably are sensitive to issues but also have to make a living in the entertainment industry? Most of us do only what we can, in that sense we are all hypocrites. That said, restyling is a pointless gimmick as long as the fashion industry keeps spewing volumes of clothes.

As for the people ranting about monorails, Dia is not the issue and her voice is not heeded. You are the people going to be living with the fallout of lack of green spaces. Enjoy the concrete.

  10. Haha I loled so hard on the rubber stamp comment. Her energy about the cause is like the lower tier celebrity version of world leaders flying to Geneva with their fleet and teams in multiple private planes to attend environment conference to televize it for the poor nails like us to see and cheer on…
