Alia visited a pandal Diwali evening for a puja and was seen wearing a purple Sabyasachi lehenga with heavy jhumkas. She looked nice.

  1. These are dark pictures.. the purple was beautiful on her, lovely simple festive look, the blouse looked damn uncomfortable but that’s norm now.. and needed better hair styling.

    • I looked it up and that was a plush version.. much more beautiful creation.. and it made very obvious a fact that, sabyasachi makes repetitive pieces in different colors and prints from same ole styles… he’s his biggest fan.

  2. This choli carries on the theme that we saw in the previous post? Is this kind of choli a Diwali dress requirement now? I must have missed the memo

  3. The colour is beautiful! The positioning of the dupatta to show off the choli though..sad yet comical! Poor celebs..they have to market themselves and the outfits even during pious occasions. It’s a choice they make though.

  4. That is a lovely color & she looks amazing in it!
But I just don’t like low-cut blouses for religious events; seems disrespectful somehow.

      • @Dense Chocolate and @Sandy – Agree with you lol. You can’t share such ‘prude’ opinions as it affects the whole women’s movement even though that’s not the case. Somehow it is interpreted with a political twist when it is not supposed to be anything political. Although, I respectfully disagree to people who think otherwise but the ones who oppose my opinion are not respectful, they resort to personal attacks. They will try to shove their politically correct opinions down my throat. I understand where they come from and respect it. But they don’t have that respect and understanding for people who have a different opinion. I agree they are politically correct but their approach is still fascist. Freedom of atleast fashion opinion is still valid I guess on this blog. I couldn’t care less about what someone’s political opinions are.

      • Ha ha love ur comment. Never understood why event appropriate clothing is considered un-empowerment. God I hope I don’t have to live to see the day when Men proclaim such empowerment in dressing. A woman should feel empowered by who she is .. she can be empowered in a bikini at a beach/pool.. or pyjamas at home .. or indian wear at a wedding/pooja.. or a simple bathrobe.. or a kurta/ pant suit/ skirt suit/ dress at work. However don’t understand empowerment wrt to wearing a bikini at work/ wedding and pyjamas at the market and bathrobe as a dress.. lol

      • Yes going skimpy is the way forward.. I respect their choice.. Their life.. Their body right? But when women want to cover up.. That’s their own choice too.. But pll don’t respect that.. They think the women r being oppressed ?

  5. Aalia looks nice, liking her smile, she is beaming! Lehenga is pretty, and somehow the choli isn’t looking as risque as it could..though it’s still a glorified bra and agree with the previous poster that it’s inappropriate for a puja pandal.

  6. That choli is giving me lower rib pain even by looking at it, god knows how she is wearing it.. I mean there is a certain basic physics involved in bra/choli structure to support the body without hurting it.. sabya decided to go against it I guess

  7. Love the outfit and how radiant Alia looks in it! I can hardly see the blouse, with her hair – but does look like a bikini top from what I can see. Suits her alright!

  8. I don’t know why people are saying the choli is untraditional when I have seen women in my father’s small Rajasthani village wearing equally risque cholis. Some of you all need to read up on the saree/ lehenga blouse that we’re familiar with and how it was actually a Western import cause our colonisers thought the traditional choli/blouseless look was took sexy for their Victorian eyes . I agree this recent choli-blouse trend is tacky but that has nothing to do with it overriding tradition or piety or whatever arbitrary norms.

    • While you make a good point, here is the big difference – people in villages(or ancient times) don’t really think of their clothes as ‘risque’ or ‘sexy’; they just wear what they’ve always been wearing.
Bollywood celebs, however, intentionally choose to look a certain way in spite of having options available.

  9. Sabyasaachi is a sell out. Only 2 things seem to redeem this look.
    – Alia is carrying it off well
    – Thank goodness she’s not wearing his flat haired middle part bun.

    • Such a useless and condescending comment. There are only so many ways you can style Indian wear. How does that make it someone else’s style?
