In Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla

Alia spent Diwali with her family wearing a chikankari kurta and lungi set from Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla. The lungi pairing was an interesting one. I don’t love it. I don’t hate it either.

You like?

P.S. Yes this was also styled by Rhea and it is never not amusing to me how lyrical Rhea gets with her description of a look.

  1. even more than the lungi, i hate the flesh band between the innerwear and the bottoms. the colour combination is the only nice part of the outfit.
    who is this styled by?

    • Rhea who else comes up with such diabolical looks. If she was a choreographer she would give Ajay Devgn and Sunny Deol hip-hop steps as she would mindlessly try to show off her ability to imagine but without any regard for the actor’s capability. Making Alia look like Asrani is what I would call this look…sigh!

  2. The pieces themselves are lovely but it all seems too staged and forced and doesn’t look natural. Trying too hard to be unique and trying to give off the air of being effortlessly cultured but it is not working.

  3. Is it just me who finds Alia Bhatt getting hyper- styled for Diwali functions in her house, temple visits etc exceedingly odd.

Insecure, actually, is what i find it.

  4. I for one love it. I think Alia has this child like innocence about her that makes this look not over the top glamorous but down to earth. There is a lot of hate for Rhea on these pages, but lets give her some credit she takes a risk every single time and atleast has her own way of styling that is unique. She mixes a bit of androgynous with femininity.

  5. Neck up she looks great, the hair and make up are perfect. Soft, dewy and beautiful. But gosh, these pieces together are atrocious. Hate the transparent sheer blouse for such a festivity, and the lungi/sraee bottom doesn’t gel. Again, a confused try hard look but the HMUA, colours and staged photos save it

  6. I don’t think the fabrics gel well and the more I look at them, the more I find them disconnected. The gossamer-kind feel of the Chikankari kurti is attempted to be balanced by the colour instead of the choice of bottom. Besides, the proportions are absolutely off. The kurti is neither a short kurti, nor a long one – all because it needed to be teamed up with a “unique” piece like this lungi (as Rhea as this can get!).

This lungi doesn’t capture well from the sides, either. Come to think of it, this kurti wouldn’t appear “aesthetically designer-styled” when paired with denims or palazzos. Hence, this Anamika Khanna-esque skirt has been picked and is being sold as lungi.

Perhaps, Rhea tried to put a “painting-like” look which with the background, photography and filters can be created however, without that, the look lacks any impact. Short Chikan kurtis – even in fabrics like georgette pair so well with nicely-flared crushed skirts. That kind of an ensemble then combined with Alia’s makeup and hair would have looked dreamy. As is, it looks like another attempt at trying to be different.
