In Masaba
With established designers hogging attention, it is really nice to see the youn’uns supporting upcoming ones. Case in point, Sonam Kapoor inaugurating Masaba Gupta’s flagship store wearing one of Masaba’s saris. We love the sari and the jewellery.
P.S. Sonam isn’t the first. Let’s not forget Deepika in Nimirta Lalwani and Bipasha/Deepika/Kareena in Armaan by Sunaina Puri.

m not liking the blouse ..and the pose with breasts thrust out …not like u sonam …we dont need another deepika … girl has killer smile …
Ya…it gives me a chameli vibe… It cld have been a lot nicer. I mean, make up is a ok and sonam is beautiful to begin with.Just the saree could have been worn better with a better blouse. There is too much waist exposure and the elegance and grace that a saree brings is missing. Its almost like a white girl wearing a saree.
@Kasthuri: Agree!! The saree could’ve been worn better.
its quite a different avatar,i love the sari..a different change frm those eye soaring glittery (saas-bahu type) ones… sonam looking fab
Eww at the belly exposure. But the sari is nice and different. She copied Deepika’s chest thrust pose in the first pic. HA!
I love the blouse. 🙂
No doubt the jewelry is lust worthy but can’t say the same for the saree…I personally don’t like her designs!!
OMG Sonam is looking so beautiful .. Love the sari , jewellery and love the makeup , it’s so old world, it’s charming. … U go girl
What a lovely sari and Sonam is looking so skinny and beautiful … Absolutely love her with this makeup and hair … She looks like she s walked out of a sharmila tagore movie ….
In my view Sonam is too skinny to wear this saree…she looks so emaciated and bony, it’s shocking.
I’d classify this as WTHey
ugly sari… i don’t know much about fashion trends or labels but this looks crass to me. we get quirky but what is with the hideous orange border which looks so out of place? the bottom half of the sari and the rest of it are 2 different things that should have never been put together. The blouse..tcchh. Hate the lip colour and the earrings look out of place too.
I agree completely. I’d classify this as a WTHeyy. Like, for real.
oh god!!…wat r u all doin here??..if u all dont know wat fashion is!!!…the contrast is awsomeee!!… matchy matchy neve looks good!! wats wrong with u???
absolutely a WTHeyy!
agree!
Totally agree. Trying too hard not to be matchy, matchy and failing miserably. Sonam makes it worse by wearing it so badly. I don’t know whether my eyes should rest on those hideous handprints or that orange color or the transparency of the pallu or that waist show-off…..Ah, goodness..so tiresome.
eeks not happening!
sonam kapoor has a face that can launch a million brands, she carries anything with such effortlessness, its amazing, and she looks stunning, always. nice sari btw. 🙂
her earrings are to die for 😉
I don’t like the saree one bit, especially on Sonam. The hair, the makeup, the big red bindi..everything is just no happening! The orange border, the big jhumkas, the red nailpaint and the ill fitted puffy sleeved blouse is puke worthy.
I’d like it better if she had a pleated drape and open hair, fresh make-up minus the bindi.
in short in masabas one word HER INSPIRATION ” KAMWALI BAI “
wateverrr!!!!!!!!!!!!! she’s lookin toooo good!!
I so agree with you on this.
this one is so not doing it!! something about the overall look just throws me off!
Yes, that’s thepoint, I think. It’s so weird and nice 🙂
sonam kapoor is lovely, stunning. she wears anything and everything with such grace and elegance.
I love the saree but hate the way the tummy is exposed. Why can’t they pleat the pallu somewhat so that you get a glimpse rtaher than the whole thing????
I agree the pallu could have been drapped so much better.I have yet to see an actress wear a dupatta the right way. But a pallu shouldn’t be that hard to pull off!!
agree.
dont like the drape of the sari and the belly exposure.
OMG!..she looks like a maid :O..not happening at all!
my thoughtss are the samee!!
A few days ago in an interview with HHC, Masaba said these words
” inspiration: my bai”
“dying to dress up: Sonam Kapoor”
I guess she got both wishes here.
lol ! Agreed !!
lol!!pretty saree but bad bad draping. reminds me of Kareena Kapoor from Chameli.
could this be because masaba’s fashion influence is her maid? rofl.
Lol…I second you! hideous!
AGREE 🙂
Okay seriously! What is with all these ‘she looks like a maid’ comments? How are they being approved and how are people making such comments? Sad..
While we don’t like it ( or get it ) either, it is something we wont be policing. Some may agree, some will get offended.
Is it me..or is the saree draped weirdly around the belly?!
I don’t think Sonam has either the build or the body language to carry off a saree, especially one with a sheer palluv like this one. Not a great endorsement for Masaba at all.
second u girl!….the saree is perfect…..Sonam just is too thin to work this Saree……Sridevi wd have rocked it 🙂
Stunning!!! Love the look. The hair, jewellery…..everything!!!!
she looks beautiful
i like it but there is something off about this look…i cant figure it out…fake tan i dont know
The terribly stick thin frame is ruining the drape…
“We love the sari and the jewellery. ”
Hey Pnp, we get ur intended pun !!! Yes, luv the saree and jewellery, only not liking the way it is been worn around this time…Its not slutty, me thinks this needs much more of attitude besides her usual perkiness to carry this style….
That aside, did she change her hair color?? Good God, one Aish is enuff 🙂
saree is good.. jewelery is nice.. but sonam is looking like a scare crow..
UFFFFF! SUPER-HOT!
How thin has she become!?
THIS is determination people. WOW.
That red bindi is SO SEXY
Is Sonam also wearing Suhani Pittie?
Just beautiful!
if only sonam had chosen to be a fashion model rather than an actor, indian fashion could’ve had its firts super model. she can really transform herself with every look. and she can lend character to the clothes she wears too. love the blouse, the saree, the earrings;basically everything about this look.
Indian fashion already had their first supermodel(s) in the form of Mehr Jessia, Madhu Sapre, Ujjwala Raut and Anna Bredmeyer. Anyone whose followed it for a while would know that. Plus, some more topmodels such as Bhawna Sharma and Sheetal Mallar emerged. Currently, Sonam as a model doesn’t hold a candle to them. When she becomes half as spunky as Bhawna then maybe, we can talk.
Well said EM.
But how could you have forgotten Laxmi Menon?? :'(
Agree EM …each word is so true 😀
Those were the days when if u were really interested in Indian Fashion industry u had o go and buy books like FEMINA…but now thanks to websites like “HHC” …one click opens the door to fashion world.
Interesting Sari, love Sonam’s hair!
She looks gorgeous!
But I’m not sure about that blouse :-/
wow i want that sari NOW NOW NOW! and I can’t take my eyes off those earrings either! Where is her store at?
Love Masaba sarees!!!
She’s there because they’re friends..
I love the sari! But I wish she wore a necklace instead of earrings.
Really P&P ? No, REALLY ?
LOVE! LOVE IT! LOVE HER! LOVE HER IN IT!
Love love LOVE Masaba’s suhanie pittie neckpiece! Tres Chic!
me too. LOVE that necklace.
I hav no words. I don hate Sonam.. I love Masaba’s creations for dat matter.but dis one is plain tacky..Ugh…ly!
n sonam cud hav kept it simple n gone easy on the tan, jewellary, big bindi, or dat ‘chameli’ pose, untied hair. I see so many things going wrong here.. the blouse is d tackiest! wat was she tryin’ to do.. show off her brand new trimmed abs???
The sheer pallu is like ‘jale pe namak’. My eyes r hurting..
I did look at the pics for like 5-6 times.. jus to spot one gud thing abt this look. but no
On the other hand.. Masaba looks way better. always loved her orange pumps. n the neck piece. though li’ll choking.. it looks naicee… I like
She has no abs.. just a really large belly button.
hmm…but I completely seem to hate this look on Sonam. She doesnt look classy at all. The saree is good but the way she wore it is ‘yikes’.
Love the sari colours and print but hate how its worn…she looks so uncomfortable…
Yeah exactly
I wish she had pleated the pallu and safety pinned it. This just looks so messy.
But I love the bindi and the earrings! GORGEOUS.
This is NOT working. That is a sari??? Looks like an amateurish kiddie project…and Sonam looks like she was styled along the lines of Kareena from Chameli…eeks :O
I love the saree and the jewellery!!! And sonam looks fabulous! Though i think she needs to stop loosing weight..Its going to make her look gaunt soon!
On another note, how come you have nothing to say abt the ridiculous jumpsuit on Masaba herself…she has such broad shoulders and opted for that?? Seriously, Deepika’s much attacked casual style is 10x better than the “designer’s” look…lol
Hate it. Hate the way the saree is draped.
i find this look very jarring.
She looks like our kaam-waali bai with sexy blouse.I never like masaba’s creations.
U said it, Masaba has said she is influenced by her Bai…the way she uses diff colors and all
What a funky saree – I’d wear it in a flash. Theres shades of Satya paul but even quirkier? Its certainly an aquired taste and not everybody will like it but Sonams looking pretty and fresh in it, and her hairdos looking great!
And you are not going to say anything about the awful draping, the blouse and the awkward posing?!
Haha, of course not. It’s Sonam, their fav. 😛
why point fingers at others? they liked it for their reasons, they may have liked the sari, the person, whatever. u don’t like it, say u don’t like it.
and bloggers are not allowed favourites or an opinion? what an idea…
i like the saree and the jewellery. she’s just too thin to be doing sheer sarees…
What’s the point of this sari? I just never get the point of sheer see-through ones. And Sonam is too thin for my liking now :-/ What happened to love for some nice curves.
Its a really pretty sari but I dont know what it is that makes me feel like Sonam cant pull it off. I think its the lack of hips. It jus doesnt look good on her.
wooooeewewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!!
Sonam has so totally raised the bar!!!
The one time sonam is looking killer gorgeous!
love! want the saree yesterday!
Wow! Way to work the saree. I love the entire look – the way the hair, bindi & earrings complement the saree
she totally look amazing!!!
Sonam should not be wearing big bindis or translucent saris..
And definitely not stand in the ‘Deepika’ pose
its a satyam shivam sundaram moment for me :P..n sonam despite the possibility of wardrobe malfunction..carried off the sari-blouse with elan.
that ash n orange combination is so cute! n the sari is so contemporary.. sonam looks good with the jewellery n the red tip but wish she wore the sari properly…that much of skin is actually kinda jarring..but then loves the way she pulled it off..this is what must b called spontaneity lol
The saree is interesting(may be)…but i think sonal has a very weird posture..and drape for the saree..she could have carried it off well but i dont know something is really weirs about the way shes posing!!
The problem I found with this look is that its so costume like.Seems like she’s all dressed up for a retro theme party .Plus i always feel that she’s got the attitude like a little girl ,its like hey i ve got a new dress look at it ..Thats just i feel
ooo this hand material with hand prints…masaba wore a shirt of the same material and print herself..thatswhy it seemed so similar..
material not hand material..typo..
pretty girl but i hate how she holds the sari like its a chaddar :X
i want to like it but can’t …. the sheer pallu, the horrible blouse, the too thin frame with strange pose ….. just not working
…. are all designers going MM way with colour block borders in anything and everything ? Let this fad die soon
i ws waiting for you guys to feature this. i love the look head to toe. the tan looks amazing on her!
i love it… its unconventional and thats what i like about it.
The saree is quirky alright, but the quirkiness does not translate into good design. It’s a pain on the eyes. Something is off with Sonam’s styling and pose, looks like she’s trying to imitate certain Ms.D. Seriously whatever happened to individuality?? She looks stick thin and jutting her assets. What works on D may not work on Sonam.
Who is Ms D ?
Love the saree, the jewllery, and the bindi, but Sonam can’t carry it off. She, along with the lovely Shruti Haasan, look like they are off to a costume party rather than wearing a garment worn by the majority of their country women everyday.
They are probably uncomfortable in sarees (and look it) but they really want to be seen as looking like they can pull off any look. Unfortunately, their Western ramp model stiffness doesn’t work with the sensuousness of a saree.
Sonakshi Sinha has a better body language to carry off edgy and traditional, though her instinct for putting together outfits is weaker than Sonam’s.
Silly. Halloweenish.
I usually love Masaba but this look falls flat. Maybe Neena Gupta could’ve carried it far better. I think you need to be curvier for this and Sonam looks so so skinny. Masaba herself looks really good though. It should’ve been such a good combination, fab designer and fab actress but somehow didn’t work this time.Maybe next time?
+1 on Neena Gupta carrying it off better.
U r right. Saree always looks good on slightly curvy indian woman. Maybe thats one reason , it looks bad on sonam.
Really?? you like this? hmmmm……i cannot believe this…this must be a joke or something…sonam must be in character for some movie where she’s playing fisherwoman
the hair, orange binidi and the saree draping and most of all her posture all suck big time!!
the sari, sari blouse and draping are beautiful. Not crazy about her make up and hair. So good to see her supporting new designers.
the sari could be interesting had the pallu been pleated a little…but with it being completely open and so see through it is really tacky to me
i dont understand why other celebs get called out for wearing semi-sheer saris but here this is completely sheer/non-existent
to top it off the teeny blouse?!
i will say that i do like the bindi and the earrings
Sonam does not have the figure to carry off a sari in this material. Western clothes, yes. This sari? No. Maybe a silk one or thicker sari? Perhaps. She looks too thin and the sari is anything but gorgeous.
She looks young and fashionable. and for some reason, not at all tacky. love her look, and am going to try it for an upcoming party.
Awkward draping and posturing really kill an otherwise decent look for me. I wouldn’t have minded the sheer saree if she draped it properly but oh god, that is a disaster topped off with an equally bad blouse (save the puffiness on the shoulders – that I like). Love the bindi and the earrings but hate, hate, hate the red nails. Red and orange are not complementary, EVER. I think someone like Neena Gupta or Sonakshi Sinha would have rocked this look.
Is Sonam the new Aishwarya? Haha, just said it by looking at the number of comments and mixed reactions lol 😉 btw she looks really nice 🙂
i honestly don’t understand why every one is going ga ga over this look! i looked and re-looked at the pictures. and my opinion is still the same. i think the sari is incredibly cute. i’d love to own it. although, i dont think the ‘sexy’ blouse meshes well with the fun and funky sari.
Sonam looks terrible. I usually heart her! but i hate the hair to begin with. she looks too skinny because of it. neck up she looks like a starved village lady. all she needs is a pot on her head.
the big (begali?) bindi is too traditional for the sari!
love it! sonam can rock both desi avatars and hot western designers with equal grace 🙂
The draping & the blouse are awful……..also the make up is off…….I do like the saree though!
I really do think she looks chameli like. I wish the pallu wasn’t so transparent. I get quirky but this is just off. Ohh and really, really don’t like the blouse.
totally unclassy.. sonam looks inspired by some kaamwaali bai…im shocked to see her in such a crass dressing after her classy appearances
Who on earth wears a sari like that?
I love this look on Sonam. Everything works for her – the bright bit of orange, the big bindi, the jewellery & the hair.
That said, I’ve never been a fan of saris that are sheer or draped to expose so much skin. I prefer a more elegant draping. But Sonam seems to carry it off. On anyone else, it might have looked vulgar, and I would have hated it. But I actually like it on Sonam.
masabas jumpsuit is ill fitted…sonam looks dull… P & P ur just being partial this time
The only thing that’s working here is the makeup, hair and earrings! I like the blouse too but the sari itself is not working at all!!!! The pallu is just too tacky!
i think masabas sarees are the only ones that actually look like they were made after a lot of thought.i dont particularly care for the way sonam has draped the saree but i love the way masaba comes up with interesting mixtures of colors, textures and designs.most othr designers jus put lots of bling on their sarees and charge obscene amounts for their uninspired ,blingy sarees ,anaralis etc.
*anarkalis ….i mean…typo
Yeah, I like the saree and the jewellery as well, PnP 🙂 But just can’t bring myself to like how sonam is wearing it. This is not quirky, this is not fun! A BIG thumb down!
A totally different Sonam for sure,love her makeup,blouse too…
LOVE THIS LOOK!! Sonam should have been a supermodel! She is beautiful and edgy! LOVE this sari and I like how her stylist has fused the traditional bindi in an orange with the sari… Very very new world quirky!
This is a whole new take on the sari… Tired of Sabya cashing in on traditional sari work and design which has been in India since the beginning of the sari and even more tired of Manish Malhotra cashing in on blinged up Sabya style haha.
Is it only me who felt that Sonam looked a LOT like Sonali Bendre?! (Though Sonali wouldn’t be caught dead in a rag like that!)
At first look, I had difficulty believing it was Sonam.
Bad hair, bad dress, bad pose.
Sad 🙁
LOL!! i think sonam got punked!
or was it a late halloween prank? 😛
eewww… in that sari she looks like my maid.. definitely a WTHeyy
Wow ‘looks like my maid’? I can’t believe someone would say something like that. What does a ‘maid’ look like exactly?
masaba’s creations are unique and fun. I like this Saree, and definitely Sonam has not done it justice. She looks lovely and all, no faultin’ her looks. However, she has not donned the beautiful saree well.
i don’t like the sari or the blouse or the accessories, however, sonam makes it work! she looks great despite what she’s wearing.
And she made Sonam look like her Bai….. I remember reading on HHC that is her inspiration!
Lol!! Hear Hear!
hehe…..:)
This girl actually makes me want to buy a Masaba saree!! Seriously she can carry off ANYTHING with her spunk and smile. I don’t have too much to say about the saree, but she looks Gorg!!
I think this might be my favorite appearance on the blog in QUITE a while. Love how eccentric yet totally chic this look is. Masaba is clearly a designer with vision and imagination, and Sonam has the required spunk and je ne sais quoi to really pull off the audacious, fun vibe of this look.
