Sari Style

By now, you know, we over here love handloom saris. Having said that though, sometimes Rekha’s sari looks can feel a bit overwhelming. That wasn’t the case though at a birthday party she attended on Sunday evening wearing a black and gold one with kundan jewellery.

I, for one, was loving her here. Now, some of you may still find the red lips, the jewellery and the gajra overkill but then that’s Madame Re for ya. It’s part and parcel of her signature style.

P.S. I can’t quite make out the weave on the pallu and so need help identifying what kind of a sari this is.

  1. She wears kanjeevaram 90% of the time. And I don’t understand your comment about overkill. This is traditional Indian wear. Saree bangles bindi gajra. Whats wrong with being traditional. It’s not like she attended a funeral like this. It’s a party. Excuse me for thing it’s being “pseudo westernized” to think it’s overkill.

    • Ahem, “pseudo westernized” would be if they claimed to be westernized but were not westernized. As it is, I think you are blaming them for being “westernized” and not “pseudo westernized”.
I will show myself out 🙂

    • Don’t get your knickers in a twist love. They are not calling it an overkill, they are saying that some readers (like me) may find it an overkill, but they like it as it is Rekha’s usual style.

Perso, I think she would have looked lovely with less cakey makeup and minus the bangles. It’s a birthday party for God’s sake, not her wedding!

  2. She looks gorgeous. The all black silk is lovely on her. Its for sure Kanchivaram Sari. The body/border seems to be joint separarely.

  4. She looks lovely like she always does and there’s no issue with wearing a saree anywhere in India like the norm is but for once I wish she changed her typical look-red lips and gajra in the hair. Try some other fabric. Wear a crisp cotton, maybe. Or a light chiffon with pearls. Change the make-up,perhaps?

  5. It’s a Gadwal, and with a distinctive kotakomma border (it’s unlikely to be a Kanjeevaram because there seems to be a difference in fabric weight between the saree and the pallu?).
